Khamrah with a Twist (Incense Fans Take Note)
First of all, greetings to "Duftfieber" for providing me with this sample for free.
I was just about to buy the fragrance blind, but I decided against it.
Not because it is bad, quite the opposite.
But it simply reminds me too much of Khamrah without smelling identical.
"Portrait by Afnan - Revival | Afnan Perfumes" is another "alternative" to "Angels' Share | Kilian".
Has it finally succeeded in cloning Angel's Share this time? Unfortunately not.
Is Revival closer to Angel's Share than Khamrah? Not really.
One could say Revival is inspired by Angel's Share, but ultimately it is still an independent fragrance.
The scent starts very similarly to Khamrah.
I thought after Sharaf Blend here comes another one that smells similar? Very disappointing.
But if you pay close attention, the opening is not identical.
Revival smells fresher.
Saffron is clearly recognizable, and the incense and dates are also immediately noticeable.
The opening is a bit synthetic as well, but that fades away quite quickly.
In the dry down, the Khamrah DNA is still clearly recognizable.
However, the Afnan feels qualitatively just more high-end, thus it reminds me more of Sharaf Blend than of Khamrah.
Nevertheless, I compare it here more with Khamrah because the fragrance is more familiar to people than Zimaya.
Tonka bean and incense come more and more to the forefront.
Especially the incense makes the fragrance somewhat unique compared to the other Angel's Share alternatives.
The incense note somehow gives me "Le Vestiaire - Babycat | Yves Saint Laurent" vibes.
So definitely not a church-like incense note.
Rather sweet and smooth, not too smoky, very smooth.
Afnan really did a great job with this.
And the longer you wear the perfume, the more incense you get.
By this point, you realize that Revival only reminds you of certain fragrances like Khamrah, but ultimately becomes independent; you just have to give it time.
"Angels' Share | Kilian" is quite boozy, but that is completely missing in Revival.
I don't perceive anything that could even remotely smell boozy.
Instead, the fragrance has a very subtly leathery character, even though leather is not listed here at all.
It could just be my imagination.
In short, it starts off very similarly to Khamrah, just without the delicious baked apple, then becomes quite independent (Khamrah DNA still recognizable somewhere) and adds a nice "very pleasant" incense.
For me, as I said, it becomes independent in the late dry down, but if you were to ask me what this fragrance reminds me of?
Then I would name these three fragrances: Sharaf Blend, "Khamrah / خمرة | Lattafa / لطافة", and very slightly also "Le Vestiaire - Babycat | Yves Saint Laurent".
Unfortunately, I could only test the performance one evening, and I would say it performs about as well as Khamrah, or maybe slightly weaker.
For just under 50 euros, you get a fragrance that I would classify as niche.
Really great quality and a wonderful scent.
Since it reminds me too much of Khamrah or Sharaf Blend in the first hours, I will probably not purchase a bottle.
Nonetheless, a great fragrance.
