Short and Painless
As a layering partner to "Sunrise Beach," Berdoues also released this fragrance in 2020, which, just like its sandy beach friend, is only available in a 30-ml bottle.
I have worn this scent alternately and also layered with Sunrise Beach for several days now, as I bought both for sharing and the remaining amount didn’t seem worth storing the two sweet little ones for next summer in winter quarters. So I can rightly claim to know this scent well - and yet I always find it difficult to remember this citrus-vanilla combination when I am wearing something else. The reason for this seems to be primarily the indefinability that characterizes this brew, remixed from familiar ingredients. The bitter freshness of neroli and bergamot is not discernible from the start, as this fragrance - like Sunrise Beach - does not undergo any development. Right from the beginning, both citrus notes blend with the vanilla, and that remains the case until the fragrance completely dissipates after a few hours, less than five in any case. The sillage is hardly noticeable, although it exists; if a breeze flows through the open car window, I can perceive the perfume quite clearly for a moment. But all of this is brief, restrained, and quickly forgotten.
The scent impression that emerges a few minutes after spraying is, as mentioned, a mix of citrus and vanilla - yet, one cannot pick out any single note. Neither do the essential oils of the citrus peels open up to create a refreshing, summery effect, nor does the sweetness or the often encountered unsweetened spiciness of vanilla reveal itself. And there is really no trace of lemon to be detected. This fragrance definitely does not lean towards "Sublime Vanille," "Ani," or other citrus-vanilla gourmands. Nor does it impress with juicy fruit notes. Overall, it presents only a sweet, indefinable, and distinctly bitter, harsh tone that leaves a strong impression of artificiality. In layering, the more Caribbean-inspired Sunrise Beach clearly dominates; the longevity improves slightly, but not the likability...
All in all, this is not a summer fragrance that one must own. It lacks the summery quality; it presents itself rather as a somewhat boring all-rounder that is never needed. A brief pleasure that hurts no one, but also does not make anyone happy, I suspect.
