Doesn't match the marketing
Don't let the marketing graphics fool you. This isn't some bleak end of the world outdoorsy fragrance. It is a sweet soft woody fig with a ton of cashmeran. It's more along the lines of Gyspy Water or Velvet Haze than say Super Cedar.
The fig in it isn't the green fig you get in something like Philosykos - its sweet and ripe like a fig candy.
Usually Byredo is on point with their marketing but I think they missed the mark this time. If they had've gone for a youthful, fun and delicate campaign, it would have fit better.
Overall its quite nice, but not challenging or exceptional. Regardless, the people who love to post monochromatic shelfies on instagram will lap this up.

Peppery smoker's cough
Sichuan pepper always smells ashen, like the face of a lifetime smoker (see Journey Man for reference), but in Eleventh Hour it gains a Vicks Vapor Rub dimension that gives it a jaunty flourish of something minty-fresh. Cigarettes and mouthwash, feathered out at the edges by the musky, vegetal warmth of carrot seeds. There is not much - to my nose, at least - of the advertized 'mulled wine' effect and it doesn't smell like Christmas at all, unless Christmas smells like cheap men's cologne, wood pulp, and the silver foil inside an empty pack of mentholated cigarettes.

Danielle Brooks must love cloves!
I added this to my sample list because I've been watching "The Home Edit" on Netflix and I noticed this on Danielle Brooks perfume shelf. I loved her in "Orange is the New Black" and I just think she's so gorgeous, talented and humble. She also seems to have great taste, so I thought "what could go wrong?"

Well I'm sure this fragrance must smell amazing on Miss Taystee herself, but it's not my cup of tea. Honestly, I am shocked to see so many notes listed on this fragrance because all I smell is a BIG blast of cloves. It is a very linear aroma from beginning to end. Cloves, cloves, and more cloves!

It's not a bad smell per se. In fact clove is one of my favorite spice smells, especially around the holidays. I like to stick cloves into an orange to make a homemade potpourri around the holidays. Maybe this perfume could benefit from a hint of orange. Or maybe you could layer it with something orangey? Either way, it smells like an ingredient for Christmas potpourri. It also smells medicinal or like an all natural cleaning product like "Thieves" oil from Young Living. Not a bad smell, just not interesting to me.

Not what I thought
I was on a hunt for a spicy but cool and clarifying perfume. I bought this as a blind buy and thought the description of the notes were what I was looking for. It is definitely something else what I was looking for or what I had read from most of the reviews.
It has this burned plastic vibe at first and then turns really minty. I don’t get anything that reminds me of christmas it’s just minty for me. No one seems to like it either, the comments are mainly just polite or no comments at all. I’ve been trying to use this all winter this and last year but is hardly a dent on my bottle. This bottle which I’m not too fond of seems to last forever.

Cowardice is punished with the apocalypse
One of my recurring nightmares, not too often, but now and then, involves images of giant tidal waves racing towards the shore and burying us without a chance. "Eleventh Hour" taps into similar myths, (primal) fears, and premonitions; or at least its name is oriented in that direction. That it is almost too late and that we have been violently destroying our unique planet for decades should be known even to the biggest dimwit (Trump excluded for now), and that it might already be too late to change anything is also clear.

However, this still quite fresh Byredo is anything but a pessimistic apocalypse scent that screams "after me the flood." It is a very green, spicy fig-rum cocktail that does not suit me at all. It solidly captures the hopelessness and fear, the alcohol consumption, and the escape to higher green mountain ranges. One should stick to that thought. But there are definitely more fun and pleasant associations that a fragrance can evoke and should...

On a purely olfactory level, this Byredo also appeals to me less. As always, it is made with high quality, a fine "blend" so to speak, but I still do not like figs in my perfume. In "Eleventh Hour," a triumvirate of pepper, fig, and rum sets the tone. And it does not hold back... Cinnamon associations also spread among me, though rather green and spring-fresh tinted. A very textured, enticing paradise scent, surely a hit for many, but in ME it only creates a migraine paradise that I can hardly wear. And fragrance reviews are, after all, highly subjective and personal. Those who like tangible figs must test it. And even face the apocalypse... ;-)

Bottle: nordic by nature
Sillage: breathtaking at first, then quickly subdued
Longevity: 7 hours but very comfortably

Conclusion: if the world ends, then one can get drunk on rum and smell like figs. Or something like that. But even if the sky falls to the earth, I will not become a friend of "cowardly" scents anymore... sorry.

Fruity and sweet, tasty rum mixed up with cedar wood and spices. Its not a beast mode parfume rather subtle player. Tastefully blended.

It is creative but not wearable. Too much pepper, doesn’t work well with the fruits. Feels almost smoky.

Linear cloves. Opening is cloves. Dry-down is cloves. Base notes--cloves. Buy it if you like the smell of cloves.

Fleeting rum and a lot of sweetened pepper, enough to keep you sneezing for a long while.

Citrusy goodness, rum, and and wood shavings. Reminds me of greek mastika and cloves.

Warming spices mingle with juicy fig and a splash of rum. Carrot seed adds muskiness. Overall this is a delight in colder weather.

I love the dry down on this. If I put it on my skin or on my clothes, the alluring smell after a few hours just makes me spray it more.

Quite peppery at the top, which then yields to a boozy fig. It's pleasant but I'm not clamoring to wear it again.

Bergamot, rum, and fig fade away too quickly.
Szechuan pepper overpowers everything.
The pepper is way too strong!
