Daenerys would be disappointed!
Dragon fruits… I think when you hear that name, you first think of dragons. A thought that many people would wish were real, because they are just so cool. Kind of like all the unicorn nonsense lately (oh… you like unicorns? Maybe I should apologize for calling it all nonsense… NO! To me, it’s just unicorn nonsense!! :DD).

Well,… nowadays, when you think of dragons, you probably think of Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, especially the guys here… especially since we’ve seen her naked and “making out” several times in the series… yeah yeah yeah… I think I’m the only one who doesn’t have a crush on her… I must not be normal or something… (I’m more into Melissa Benoist… yeah yeah yeah, she plays Supergirl… yeah yeah yeah… and now shut up!!).

So, let’s see how Dragon Fruit smells!

The scent:
The beginning is fruity-sweet, but also floral and a bit citrusy. The fruity notes initially remind me of green apples. When the sweet notes become a bit stronger and the scent becomes a little softer, you might think you can smell berries in the background.
Well, I don’t know if it really smells like dragon fruit, but it doesn’t seem to capture that scent particularly well.
Later, the scent smells like a mix of sweet, floral, and woody notes, not bad, but honestly, many fragrances with a fruity touch smell almost the same. Also, the synthetic notes are unmistakable…
A little later, the scent “drifts” along and leaves me with mixed feelings, as it doesn’t smell really bad, but I also don’t quite know what to do with it.

The sillage and longevity:
The sillage is rather weak and will only be noticeable at a short distance.
The longevity is almost non-existent, as it hardly smells after less than two hours.

The bottle:
Bottle rectangular.
Color stripes light yellow.
Cap cylindrical and chrome-plated.
Unspectacular.
Uncreative.
But at least functional!

Well, Dragon Fruit is not a peculiar scent, like you sometimes get from Demeter. It initially smells a bit hastily and cheaply put together, so it smells more like an air freshener or a toilet fragrance. Only later does it smell more pleasant, but then I think it doesn’t really smell like dragon fruit either. But after just a few hours, the scent seems to run out of steam completely…

And even though this scent is just another entry in a fragrance library, I’m not sure if it authentically smells like dragon fruit due to the later clearly detectable synthetic notes. As I said, Daenerys Targaryen would probably be disappointed!

Hmm… how will Game of Thrones end? Some speculate that the dragon rider will win in the end and seize all power… perhaps the new ruler will even be Arya Stark, who we might finally see naked and “making out” hopping from scene to scene :D

Or maybe no one wins, because in the end, they all slaughter each other and the White Walkers rule over everything, so no happy ending… this is definitely something Game of Thrones could do, where every four seconds a main character dies :D

Well, that was Dragon Fruit. You can give it a try, but you don’t have to.

How I Once Encountered Dragon Fruit
My first conscious encounter with a dragon fruit was a few years ago in Beijing. A balmy summer night in the Houhai nightlife district, a terrace table at the popular Hakka restaurant, and a very lively group of guests. After a fantastic dinner, as always very spicy, very flavorful, and very delicious, we craved something sweet. Now, Chinese cuisine is known for many great things, but not for a particular dessert culture. A Chinese meal typically ends with hot soup or, if one is still not full, with rice. Desserts as a conclusion to the menu are practically non-existent in classic Chinese cuisine.
But one can still ask. So we inquired with the server about a dessert recommendation. The conversation went as expected, unsuccessful, as she had nothing to recommend (why do foreigners want something sweet...?). But we don’t give up that easily. We asked for the menu; maybe we would find something nice there after all. Chinese menus are often equipped with pictures of the dishes, what a wonderful invention, it usually goes faster than the tedious deciphering of the characters.
And boom, we had already found the perfect dish: a brightly raspberry-red fruit with juicy white flesh and funny black dots was smiling at us. The hollowed-out half was also filled with a variety of colorful ingredients, cut into cubes and strips - perfect! A juicy, cool exotic fruit salad was just what we needed after this lavish dinner.
We ordered and were surprised when the server noted that it would take a bit longer. No matter, new round of beer, continue chatting, and wait for the extremely appetizing dragon fruit.
It arrived after what felt like an eternity - and was steaming. It was hot, hearty, and substantial. And turned out to be a cooked ingredient for a special seafood dish. The funny pieces were various seafood with spring onions and other vegetables. Everything was cooked extremely flavor-neutral and completely inappropriate: we wanted sweet, fresh, and cool, and we got hearty, cooked, and steaming. And we had no appetite for this certainly very elaborate and special dish. We poked around a bit, but unfortunately, most of it remained untouched.

I was totally perplexed at the time that the dragon fruit, which looked so exotic and fruity, tasted like nothing at all. I had expected something lychee-like, juicy and sweet. But this quirky cactus fruit loses its aroma when heated. Great.

And now the Demeter scent rolls my way, and I am once again astonished: for now the dragon fruit smells exactly as I imagined it back then when I saw the picture on the menu: intensely fruity, with a sweetish acidity, exotic. A bit like passion fruit, but still a little different. A bit squeaky, candy-like, intense. All while being completely without sillage, longevity, and sophistication. Just like a concentrated mixed bag of Campino candies. The olfactory color would be a creamy yellow, as there is more sour than sweet in it.

It's time for me to try dragon fruit in its natural state. Maybe it actually tastes good.

Less impactful and not quite photorealistic as a typical Demeter offering

Incredibly juicy fruity freshness! Reminds me of pineapple, yet remains indefinable. An authentic feeling of biting into a fruit.

Dragon fruit tastes subtly like strawberries with lemon pepper and has a faint scent.
This fragrance is very sweet and vaguely fruity.

I wish dragon fruit tasted like this smells: exotic, fruity, delicious, green, sour, pineapple-y ;-))

Lychee aroma, a bit soapy. Very sweet and synthetic. Has nothing to do with real fruits.
