Simple but impressive
My entry into the world of niche perfumes!

The relationship between me and this fragrance got off to a bumpy start but ultimately led me into the broad field of fragrances.

I became aware of this fragrance through an ad, and through reviews and introductions, I was almost ready to blindly buy it. Thank goodness I didn't. I was in Paris for a short vacation and discovered this fragrance in a perfumery. Excited as I was, I sprayed it on a test strip and couldn't believe it. I really disliked it. This was, of course, due to my completely inexperienced nose. Disappointed, I went out and then tried two other fragrances. These were Contes du Levant and Mûre et Musc Extrême. These are of course more pleasing straight away.

How were we led to each other? Back in our familiar home country, we went on a day trip to Stuttgart, where I discovered it again. I thought to myself, it can't be, the notes read so beautifully, and before I knew it, I had him on my skin. But this time it was a completely different experience. It was exactly as I had wished or imagined it would be, so after testing it on my skin for about 3 hours, it went straight into my collection.

I explain the whole thing by the fact that this fragrance is very overwhelming for noses that have no contact with it due to the white oud.

But now to my fragrance experience. It is a special raspberry fragrance, which clearly sets the tone. However, the fragrance is also accompanied by a spicy note, which is caused by the cardamom in the top note and the white oud as the fragrance progresses. Of course, this is a synthetic ingredient and cannot be compared with normal oud. However, for me, this fragrance is the perfect scent for spring, as it simply puts you in a good mood.

In conclusion, I can only say that this is one of my absolute favorites and I am glad to have dared to try it again. It also doesn't have a complicated DNA, but is quickly understood and convincing. H/S are kept perfect in my opinion, as otherwise it becomes too overpowering with the pungent note described.

The epitome of niche-smelling niche
This is what niche perfumery is all about. After an extremely lackluster year of market saturation, designer imitation, niche flankers, and the obsession with synthetics; Aquila Absolute is one of the limited few fragrances that stands out for the underlying product. The reason why it stands out is because the scent itself is a great example of what niche houses can achieve when they try to create something worthwhile. There is a legitimate argument that this is Julien Rasquinet's best release *ever*.

Let me offer you a short-form summary of the fragrance's evolution: Aquila Absolute opens fruity & rosy. These tones are flanked by a sweet & aromatic cardamom. Up-close you get masculine, bitter fougère type qualities which are ultimately backed by a fairly tame leather base.

Now take that description and try to think how you would recreate this fragrance with other ones. The fruity-rosy open can be viewed as the equivalent of Rose Omeyyade Extrait which is a rose & raspberry fragrance. The scent then has the cardamom which is somewhat soft, but given the lack of cardamom-focused fragrances in the niche market, imagine a non-spicy version of Xerjoff's Starlight. The bitter fougère tonalities here will be reminiscent of fragrances like "Original Collection - X: The Masculine Perfume of the Perfect Pair / X for Men | Clive Christian" and Reckless pour Homme Parfum, perhaps even Burlington 1819. The comparison to Burlington 1819 is especially accurate as the tones here (especially the violet leaf accord) give off a very specific body odor-esque feel like the cumin does in B1819. Lastly, the mild leather base is much like in Masque Milano's I-III Russian Tea which is a smoky leather-tea fragrances with raspberry & mint.

That lengthy description is the reason why Aquila Absolute is among the best niche releases of 2023. I have seen some of the comparisons suggested by the community and I don't think any of them really do this fragrance justice. The Tuscan Leather Eau de Parfum comparisons are very much in bad faith as the core scent of Aquila Absolute is driven by the violet leaf and cardamom, not the raspberry and leather. Similarly, the oud here isn't prominent and therefore comparisons to scents like The Moon are also off, especially since animalic is not a top 10 accord with this fragrance. While Electimuss isn't exactly known for unique product, Aquila Absolute clearly is far enough from it's inspiration to make nailing that inspiration quite difficult.

The fragrance is ultimately let down by pricing (€340/100ml) and the performance isn't exactly mind-blowing as it gives off moderate sillage on approximately 8-9 hours of longevity. (call it 8 hours on moderate sillage). This is a spring-fall & maybe winter fragrance that has aspects suiting both younger and older gentlemen. A standout for Electimuss in 2023.

Pure nostalgia
Aquila...where and how should I start?

When I smelled it for the first time, I immediately noticed the strong resemblance to a perfume that my father had always used; like me, he was a great lover of good perfume. But the one he used is hard to find today and comes from Hungary, so it's difficult for me to buy. Unfortunately, I lost my father far too early and unexpectedly. To this day, I always sleep with his favorite sweater, which of course still smelled exactly like this perfume shortly after his death. It immediately reminds me of all our beautiful moments and often comforts me through sleepless nights. That's what I love most about perfume, it can take us back to a perhaps much better and more beautiful time, even if only for a brief moment, it awakens emotions and memories that might otherwise have been lost. Aquila took me back to the time "before" in exactly this way.

It starts herbaceous, very masculine, spicy, but with a wonderful, immediately following freshness. After a few minutes, this fresh note turns into an incredibly fine, fruity raspberry note until the velvety, soft leather joins in. I smell the rose from time to time, it gives the whole thing a tangy sweetness that I personally found very addictive.

The fragrance is unquestionably very complex and of very high quality. Anyone who claims otherwise has apparently not yet taken a closer look at the fragrances used by the house. Not to forget, we are talking about a work by Julien Rasquinet. I read the words "cheap" here and could hardly believe my eyes. For heaven's sake, if it's cheap! The fragrance is so beautifully blended that you can smell a new, subtle nuance every time.

The drydown on my skin is a velvety yet fresh, fruity dream of raspberry and dark, mysterious leather. This then goes in the unisex direction again, as the opening is really very masculine. I have rarely smelled such a well-balanced rose oud + leather fragrance that I have liked so much and yes, perhaps I am most attracted to this one because of the similarity to my late father's perfume, but I can also objectively say with a clear conscience that this perfume is clearly a masterpiece. I can't stop smelling it when it dries down to the unisex drydown.

The longevity and projection is without question Beast Mode. I sprayed the fragrance on my wrist once before I bought it. Once and it lasted and projected as if I had sprayed it on myself from top to bottom. I don't think I need to say more.

All in all, a perfume for a real gentleman, like my father was, but also for his daughter, who will never stop looking up to him, to him, my eagle protecting me from above.

Natural Beauty
Picture yourself secluded in nature, it's an unusually chilly summer night and you're wearing your favorite leather jacket to keep warm. The sky is clear, there's no light pollution as you gaze at the sparkling heavens inhaling the exhilarating cold air. You notice the smell of the surrounding leafy plants letting out the last of their sun drenched warmth, the raspberries you're eating and the warm crackling embers, you feel invigorated and grateful to simply experience such natural beauty, that is Aquila Absolute.

The aromatic cardamom and natural raspberry produce a sweet fizzy aldehydic fruit open that has a red ombre effect. The mid is all about vibrant and verdant leafy geranium, perfectly sweetened by fresh rose. The red open and soapy green mid alchemically combine to produce an alluring and beautifully blended blue smell. This blue smell is supported by a clean smoky oud and soft leather base that is illuminated by ozonic violet leaf which keeps the whole experience on the fresh and uplifting side, while providing the perfect amount of dark smoky gravitas.

Initially I was expecting a different experience from the gorgeous blue bottle, it took me a few wears to understand this lustrous potion. A few wears later and it has fully revealed itself, now I absolutely adore it's natural approach to a mass appealing highly versatile unisex fragrance.

Update - continues getting better and better, this is one of the best new things I've smelled in a while!
