Musc K Ella K Parfums 2023

It took me way too long to try this fragrance. I keep seeing comparisons to You Eau de Parfum, Sonic Flower, and Fleur de Peau Eau de Parfum, and while they all fall in the same family, none of them are truly alike, especially as they dry down. To me, Fleur de Peau is the most novel and unique smelling, but I think Musc K perfectly executes the “your skin but better, clean girl, fresh out the shower” scent profile.

Musc K is an agreeable white musk fragrance, characterized as fresh, floral, and synthetic. The orris butter gives the scent a creaminess that you otherwise wouldn’t expect from these kinds of scents. I love the use of the white pepper along with the pink pepper, cause it gives a sparkling spicy effect from when you first encounter the scent. The woods are dry, kind of like the driftwoods you find on a beach. It’s effortlessly pretty, and while it’s not “original” per se, it is a beautiful addition to this category of scents. It’s definitely in its own class of luxury and quality.

Along with Fleur de Peau Eau de Parfum, it’s definitely on the stronger end of the skin scent spectrum, and easily lasts an entire day. The sillage is moderate, and soften nicely without disappearing as the day goes on. This is truly an all encompassing fragrance that can be worn whenever, wherever, and doing whatever. A “conquer the world with a smile” kind of fragrance. Albeit, it is expensive.

I’ve been testing Musk K, and I think it’s often miscategorized. It’s a textbook 'skin scent'—very clean, minimalist, and airy. People tend to label this as feminine because of the association with 'soft' notes, but on skin, it’s completely neutral. It’s essentially a 'post-shower' profile. If you're looking for something that just elevates your natural scent without screaming 'I’m wearing perfume,' it’s a solid choice regardless of gender. Performance is modest, which is expected for this profile, so don't expect it to last all day.

I’m late to the party but I think this perfume was made specifically for me. I pretty much only like skin scents, and I love fresh & synthetic scents. This one hits the mark in a way that I never thought was possible. When I tried it, I knew it reminded me of something I smelled before. I have an original bottle of Glossier you from the original launch that I honestly haven’t smelled in years. I compared them and they definitely have similarities. But this is far better blended, more elevated, stronger, and more unique scent. It almost gives me a Byredo Blanche “clean laundry” vibe at the same time too. It makes me feel SO chic and expensive. What a gem.

Upon first spray it is very powdery and fresh, upon dry down it becomes more musky and synthetic but still very fresh and clean. For a fresh scent, the longevity is high and the spillage is above average. On clothes it is ETERNAL. 10/10.

The scent is a white floral reminiscent of sun lilies, spreading with a subtle sweetness and overwhelming transparency. It shares a delicate quality with the brand's "Halong Bay Rain," but where that scent has a moist, watery feel, this one has more of a "dry, smooth white sand" texture.

The use of sun lilies here is exquisite. The dryness is mysteriously moist, like the occasional glimpse of freshness from the lagoon into the arid desert air. If you listen carefully, you'll hear the scent of minerals and iodine carried on the sea breeze, passing through like a breeze.

The highlight is the final note. Iris, ambroxan, and musk blend together to create a delicate, lingering finish that emanates a refined elegance from the skin itself. Its quiet presence, never overbearing, exudes a sense of cleanliness that deeply resonates with Japanese sensibilities.

Like the landscape of sand dunes that stretch out in layers, this supreme clean musk envelops you in a pleasant fragrance that gently supports you and allows you to walk your own "free path."

Yet another niche brand cutting corners to meet the demands of the consumers.

When I first sprayed my brand new bottle on paper and skin the only smell I got was the overwhelming smell of plastic similar to the smell of cellophane used for book wrapping or those dollar store plastic raincoats you get during emergency situations. From the opening to the drydown that was all I could smell. I was confused, annoyed and felt robbed for buying liquid plastic for good $$. I ended up researching about maceration/maturation and figured this was another one of those perfumes that became really popular and the makers are trying to meet the demands of the consumers by making more product too fast hence, sacrificing the quality of the product.

I decided to give this bottle some time in my closet. I vigorously shake the bottle a few days a week while spraying some to let some oxygen in. It’s been a month now and it’s mellowed down. The opening doesn’t smell too sharply of plastic anymore but it still smells synthetic (like crayons) and the dry down is much more pleasant now but it’s still to me, sub par.

Do I regret buying this? Yes. Will I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely not. Maybe those who laud this perfume got the bottles when the makers still had some standards. Such a disappointing experience!
