In my search for the fresh, soft but not lifeless feminine musk fragrance, I came across a number of different perfumes, and over the last two years I have tested myself extensively in this area. I owned all of these bottles, but now they have all passed into other hands and I have parted with them. There were, for example
Blanche Eau de Parfum Bal d'Afrique Eau de Parfum "Musk Therapy | Initio"
Signature Eau de Parfum Valaya Eau de Parfum Néroli Amara For Her Pure Musc Eau de Parfum and maybe a few others.
What they all had in common was that the freshly cared-for feel became heavier and more sultry at some point; in the long-term test, notes emerged that were disturbing and only became apparent in drydown or in hot temperatures. Some were simply too sweet on me, others were very synthetic, or there was something sour, or in the end they smelled like a freshly creamed-up nice granny.
I have to say that musk fragrances are relatively tricky and complicated. And finding the right one for your own skin chemistry is easier said than done!
And I unexpectedly found the fresh, soft skin feeling I was looking for in Musc K! At last.
The way it develops on my skin here is gorgeous. It remains diffuse and linearly fresh until the end, soft but not so lullingly sweet, changing character between woody-floral-spicy-salty-metallic-musky-soft-even earthy-aromatic (perhaps due to iris and vetiver?).
The salinity is medium strong, the durability is very good up to 12-16 hours, on clothes until washing. On pillows for days.
Musc K is not a fragrance that blows you away now, it is one that proves itself in long-term wear. It is one that, despite its simplicity, is masterfully composed, both technically and in terms of the combination of fragrances. It is simply modern, round, harmonious, unagitated, very long-lasting, gentle but present and just a hint of creamy powderiness, and thank goodness not oversweetened. This is exactly what I was looking for. This fresh, slightly lovely skin scent that is irresistible but has come back!
Gentle, pure, feminine, puristic.
A big compliment to the talented Sonja Constant, who has some real treasures to offer in her Ella K line.
And thank you for reading! If you have tested the fragrance, please write in the comments what you think of it and how it wears.
