Lovely lilac
How this one crept up on me! Sprayed, got a slight citrus burst then flowers, having bought blindly was beginning to think the worst, then......... Creamy yet airy florals kind of lightly followed me around for the rest of the day like a light veil! This isn't a cloyingly sweet scent, just fluffy and light and lilacy goodness! Beautiful!

Nice Lilac
Sweet Morphine is a well-done Lilac solifore, Iris in a supporting role. The simple base of wood and vanilla grounds it unobtrusively. It's a nice and not-too-sweet perfume, suitable for both young and mature women. Picture walking through a field of lilacs wearing a romantic summer hat then after a while going into the woods. Simple beauty.

Different than expected…A lot of fruit…
Hmmm… I had something completely different in mind.. Maybe because of the color or the name. I don’t know.. I imagined something really dense, rich, floral, almost chewing-gum-like but in a mature and elegant way. Also something powdery because of the iris. In short, it is none of that.. Not at all.. If you love very fruity fragrances, you should try this one. Opinions on this scent vary..

The scent starts off very fruity, immediately reminding me of my childhood.. I originally come from Copenhagen and back in the 60s and 70s it was not uncommon for us to have -30 degrees in winter.. Every morning at the breakfast table there was this, to me very unpopular, elderberry juice.. Ufff… Supposedly it was supposed to be good for the immune system because of the high vitamin C content.. In any case, Sweet Morphine catapults me straight back to the breakfast table and back to my unpopular “juice”.. Brrrrr…. I liked neither the taste nor the smell of that juice.. For the first 30 minutes, the scent smells only of warm elderberry juice to me.. I am generally absolutely not a fan of fruity fragrances, which is why I am also not a fan of the “opening”..

In the drydown, the scent becomes less fruity, which is good, but what is interesting is something else.. A little floral notes come through and the iris gives off a hint of powder but just a hint.. However, the scent becomes increasingly a bit piercing and sharp.. In summer, I would find the scent quite nice from the dry down but not more.. I wouldn’t wear it though.. It doesn’t suit me at all.. Overall, a rather linear fruity/floral scent that really doesn’t smell bad from the dry down but is somehow boring.. A scent that has been smelled a thousand times in countless variations.. I miss something interesting, something that would make the scent exciting and intriguing. If one could have smelled a bit more than just a hint of woody notes, the scent would have been rounder, more mature, and more interesting. Unfortunately, I hardly smell any woody notes, even though the pyramid promises something different..

The scent does become increasingly beautiful in the drydown but it takes time to reach this phase.. In the drydown, I like it best and it becomes almost beautiful after an hour.. For me, a summer scent for a young woman..

If I had tested the scent blindly without knowing which fragrance it was, I would have guessed it was some scent from Britney Spears.. Ouch, I know that sounds harsh, but that’s how this scent smells to me.. Fruity/light floral without edges and corners.. Very girly.. Maybe I also tested the scent at the wrong time of year. However, I can imagine that one would find this scent very nice if one is young and totally into fruity light floral fragrances..

H+S quite weak.. After 2 hours, the scent is neither noticeable to me nor to my surroundings.. "Irisss | XerJoff" is listed as similar.. So sorry, the scent has as much in common with "Irisss | XerJoff" as I do with Mother Teresa.. So please don’t go by that..

Sweet Morphine ...
... cool name for a fragrance... you would think it’s quite a “punch” of a scent. It must really hit hard :)
A pretty “poison” in pink... well, I was really curious to test this fragrance.
Now I’m at least happy to write the first comment about it and thanks to the lovely Parfuma for providing me with a sample.
I do like the smell of lilac in spring, and iris is also okay... woody notes and vanilla are always good... floral-sweet... oh well... it can’t be that bad... so here we go... onto the skin ;)
I’m immediately overwhelmed by a lilac-iris combo... not just a hint of flowers... a whole bouquet is wafting from my wrist.
Soon a note comes in that simply smells terrible... I can’t really describe it. Is it indolic? (The lovely Lilienfeld mentioned it in her statement) :)
In any case, my nose is wrinkling, and I have to hold myself back from washing the scent off immediately to continue my test. But honestly, it wasn’t easy for me.
It should also be mentioned that this note follows me through almost the entire scent development, albeit in a milder form.
Powdery-floral, this “poison” spreads its scent... surely very appealing for floral fragrance fans... for me, it’s unfortunately a bit of an acquired taste.
Towards the base, woody notes join the floral notes, along with a vanilla that is noticeable but doesn’t really come out on my skin.
For my scent perception, it leans more towards a green-creamy-floral direction. I would describe Sweet Morphine as slightly sweetened... but I’m just a total sweet tooth ;) so everyone has to decide for themselves how sweet they find the fragrance :)
In the drydown, Sweet Morphine is also bearable for me... I can breathe a sigh of relief... after about 1 1/2 hours, it is also wearable for me.
I can’t give a precise statement on longevity, but definitely around 5 hours, even if it’s more intimate.
What I noticed... when spraying... it smelled really nice in the apartment afterwards. I found that more pleasant than the scent on my skin.
Wearable in spring and summer.
The bottle looks quite nice... purple would fit much better though :)
Conclusion:
Lilac-iris opening with a terrible note. Becomes more intimate and bearable. Powdery-floral with wood and hardly any vanilla. But creamy-green-floral!
Sweet Morphine by Ex Nihilo has, as far as I remember, quite a high price... but for what’s happening on my skin, it’s too expensive for me. However, everyone has to decide for themselves ;)
For lilac-iris fans, despite my not-so-great review, it’s definitely worth a test ;)

Strong powdery, sweet floral which is heavy on the lilac. Unfortunately gave me a headache. Pretty but not for me.

Sweet Morphine will always be a favourite of mine. The upbeat sunny feel of it. A scent with a smile.

This lilac is almost a bit too classic for my taste. Grandma's lilac soap, softly powdered with iris. Still lovely, though.

A well-crafted floral scent accompanied by soft woods and subtle vanilla. A good feminine fragrance.
You find this type more often.

In the warm, dark bourbon patchouli, colorful iris lights shimmer. Lilac dances before my eyes, making me dizzy. The trip lasts about five hours.

While I was expecting the next pseudo-stoner scent like Black Afghano, it's (just) a lovely, bright lilac.

Captivating floral scent. I've never experienced such a creamy lilac. Mimosa, iris + a hint of sweet vanilla complete it perfectly. Incredibly feminine!

Help! The iris devours the lilac and then spits it out like chewing gum.

Lilac, powdery iris, and vanilla simmered down thickly, forgetting to take the wooden spoon out. It has something, but it's a bit much for me.
