That is Amber Sky
It’s hard to describe the sky.

Every cliché has been used, to the point that it seems we’ve given up. And since no one draws our attention to the beauty of the sky anymore, we stop noticing how truly beautiful it is.

Here, Amber Sky paints for us a sunset over the Bosphorus, between East and West. Bergamot, amber (of course), tonka bean. Yet, to me, the oriental side evokes more of a desert: the blue of the sky, so heavily pure, pressing down onto the ground, weighing upon the rocks that stand tall like pillars softening the intensity of the azure.

Curiously, the sand is of an evanescent gray, almost vaporous, contrasting strikingly with the oppression of the heavens. The ocean as a vault and the clouds as a floor. As if an absent-minded god had lost himself in his palette of colors—distracted, yet still discovering that this improbable mix created a pearly white horizon whose untouched purity promised everything: trials filled with joy, hope within sorrow, and the threat of the ordinary.

And above all, the reminder that there is never anything extraordinary without sacrifice. That is Amber Sky.

Cozy Amber
The opening is a bit medicinal and meh for me. But the more it dryes down on your skin the better it gets.

It gets woody and sweet vanillic the amber gives it its warmth and there is this slight incensy backbone to it that makes it a very cozy and quite perfect for the winter and colder weather.

Not the best from the house but far from bad and solid performance too.
7/10 from me!
Ex Nihilo is goated.

Amber's Beautifully Dark Side
Amber. I have already had the chance to test a few of these incredibly beautiful fragrances, and that's why I was curious about how Ex Nihilo interprets this theme after various reference ambers like ó Hira or Orca. Hardly any fragrance ingredient has such a vast range, ranging from balsamic, resinous - to somewhat animalistic, to borderline experiences, whether I wanted to get that close to the whale.

Regarding the brand itself, one can only say briefly: High Class. Beautiful bottles. Customizable caps from mother-of-pearl to real gemstones (upon request). For the "entry-level" customization, Ex Nihilo charges "only" 50 euros - compared to Boadicea, which already charges 20 pounds just for shipping. Price-wise, it’s a bit tighter, positioned in the upper segment, likely a rarity in some collections. If not, a well-considered investment. After all, 100ml costs 420 euros here. Without customization.

Amber Sky is marketed by the brand as elegant and sophisticated. Well, let’s dig into that.

Amber Sky opens with a very dense dark wood note that brings a subtly underlying sweetness - dry and resinous. There is constantly a slight smokiness that wafts over from the vanilla-sandalwood base. This sweet-dry resin note lasts for the first two to three hours before more and more sandalwood from the base shines through. In my view, the vanilla is not a Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, but rather a kind of softener for the dark amber in the drydown. I found it remarkable that the heart note conjured up some coffee and roasting aromas in my perception. Really great and very interesting.

As for the endgame in the accord lineup, I can at least clarify a bit for Amber Sky. Tonka is listed, but it is not detectable. This is due to the very dark ambered base. So, a reassurance for tonka here.

Next, many here write about oud. Medicinal oud. It is not unusual to encounter oud even if it is not listed in the pyramid. But here, if at all, oud is present in homeopathic doses. I tend to lean towards: no oud. The amber is dark and has a certain, very, very subtle animalic quality. It makes everything appear a bit "dirtier" and gives the fragrance a certain edge while maintaining high wearability.

After two days with this fragrance, my conclusion is:

Yes, Amber Sky is long-lasting. Yes, Amber Sky is the beautiful, interesting, dark side of amber. Yes, you should try it. :)

From Glamour to Resin
Until recently, I was not familiar with any of the Ex Nihilo (Creation from Nothing) fragrances. Suddenly, they appeared out of nowhere right in front of me. And do you know that feeling when you test an unknown brand? Even if you don't get to smell all of them, you internally decide whether this brand deserves attention or if you can easily forget it.

Ex Nihilo immediately made it into my attention drawer, as all the fragrances give a very high-quality impression, do not smell chemical, and have impressive performance in terms of sillage and longevity.

Even though I have moved past the amber phase or no longer feel like wearing such fragrances, I must praise Amber Sky. I have smelled many amber scents, but this one is probably the most beautiful so far. The amber here leans more towards the resinous direction; it is not a cuddly amber. Amber comes from amber, and you can definitely perceive that here. It is blended with a pleasant sandalwood that has been stripped of its soapiness, which I find very successful; the vanilla only lightly resonates in the background and is never intrusive.

I would bet that there is no oud contained here. The term medicinal oud comes up so often in this forum; I consider it a myth. I would go so far as to claim that there is no "medicinal" oud, but rather other ingredients are responsible for what many perceive as "medicinal" repeatedly.
In the pyramid of Amber Sky, I suspect that the particularly resinous amber combined with cedarwood conveys this impression, and the bergamot in the top note adds to it.

At the outset, I find Amber Sky very feminine, opulent, glamorous; after an hour, it takes on a tendency towards a masculine scent. As it develops, it remains resinous with sandalwood and vanilla aromas. A successful composition; testing it is definitely worthwhile.

From Nothing to Niche
Amber Sky was my first niche perfume. At that time, I was strolling through the perfume department of a well-known department store in western Berlin, sniffing a few scents along the way. Eventually, I arrived at the Ex Nihilo stand, which simply attracted me with its incredibly elegant presentation.

I then sprayed Amber Sky directly on my skin and was initially overwhelmed by the incredibly strong incense-woody opening. "If it smells like this all the time, you can't go anywhere with it," I thought, and spent the next two hours in the clothing department. I kept smelling my arm and was amazed by the dynamic progression of the scent. The smokiness gradually faded into a vanilla, slightly rosy, and finally incredibly soft/warm amber note.

In the end, I couldn't help but buy the fragrance (even despite the astronomical price for a perfume at that time for me). Since then, it has become my signature scent and has certainly garnered various comments over the years. From "Wow, does it have to be that strong?" to "You smell slightly feminine, but it suits you incredibly well," to "That's insane, I have to have it too," I think I've heard it all. I, for one, have fallen in love with it and recommend it to anyone who particularly wants to stand out in a somewhat provocative way during the first 1 to 2 hours and is then ready for the coziest vanilla-amber bed that I have experienced so far.

Lastly, it should be noted that the scent is still detectable on my clothes even after washing. So far, I have personally not experienced comparable longevity (at least on clothing).

Slightly sweetened amber-woody scent with some spiciness, comparable to Amber Star & Sand Dance. Masculine, fall-winter. A tad expensive.

Initially bright-spicy, this rather dusty and slightly earthy, sweet oriental-spicy Winter fragrance, settles to creamy resinous-woody base.

The lovechild of Armani Prive Myrrhe Imperiale and Tauer's LDDM. Buy both of those worthy bottles instead and keep the change!

Sour dustiness. Boring scent, blastcof coriander and sweet resins. Like all Ex Nihilo's scents, not creative.

Somehow not what I expected from the name. More like medicinal oud with an artificial sweetness and mass-market tonka.
