Harmony of the Senses: Iris Hides in the Jungle

The great thing about L'Atelier is its exclusivity. Givenchy is already known for something special. With the Atelier fragrances, you can be sure that you won't smell them on every corner. In Berlin, the creations are available at Lafayette and KaDeWe - and of course in the Givenchy boutiques.
I particularly like iris because of its sensually alluring and aphrodisiac effect. So I decided to try the harmony...
The pretty girl (maybe in her mid-20s) from the Givenchy department sprays the fragrance into the air and wafts the Givenchy card through the vapor spray mist - very elegant. I always do it differently: 10 cm away and straight onto my wrist. Why do I mention this here? I'll come back to that later.
Top Note:
Wow, what a bold iris this is! The scent caresses my nose so much that it settles in my brain. One perceives floral notes that have a bold carrier. Ylang and neroli are almost restrained in their floral quality by the warm and woody immortelle. The top note is so beautiful that I would have to give it 15 points...
Heart Note:
The top note quickly transitions into the heart note. Neroli fades away, and slightly spicier nuances emerge. Yes, it becomes a bit bolder, but this does not detract from the fragrance's harmony, as the top note was not a pure floral sea due to the straw flower (immortelle) anyway.
The heart note is very subtle and sensual. Like a small shy and vulnerable kitten, it lays on the skin.
Unfortunately, really such a pity: The scent becomes increasingly subtle, so that after about 3 hours, you only perceive it up close. I can't explain why that is. It should have the strong oud in the base...
Heart Note: 8 points
Base Note:
Well, the base. Where is the oud now? The scent remains warm, woody, and earthy, while subtly fixing the lovely iris. The guaiac wood is probably responsible for that. But where the hell is the oud? I can live with it if oud is not wasted, as it is quite expensive. But I hardly perceive the oud here - maybe a pinch. That's not a big deal, since the fragrance is not called Oud Harmonique but Iris Harmonique. And those who know oud know that it can be quite a heavy hitter. However, perhaps a second pinch of oud would have given the fragrance in the base a bit more strength and longevity - it certainly wouldn't have hurt, as Iris Harmonique offers hardly any olfactory perception in the base. That's such a shame. You would have to reapply it every three hours if you want a corresponding sillage.
After four hours, the scent is only barely detectable, like a subtle quickly absorbing cream. The skin smells pleasantly sweet, spicy, and earthy. This means: With a trained nose, one can still perceive the wonderfully transformed iris.
Maybe you just need to apply a bit more (e.g., also on hair, shirt/blouse), but at a price of €200.00, that’s a tough sell. Perhaps it’s better to pre-treat the corresponding body areas (neck, décolletage, nape, wrists) with oil or cream...
7.5 points
Conclusion:
Because the top note is so exceptionally good, it still gets a total of 10 points.
Longevity:
Unfortunately, rather below average, but maybe it’s (hopefully) due to my skin's pH value, hence - 7 points.
Sillage:
Well, I hardly perceive any. I don’t think my surroundings do either. This fits with the restraint and the extremely subtle appearance of this harmony.
6 points
Bottle:
The bottle is excessively elegant. The thread on the cap of the L'Artelier series is supposed to indicate that the L'Atelier perfumes were inspired by certain fashion collections.
10 points
Who: everyone - ladies, gentlemen, young, older
When: always and forever - spring, summer, autumn, winter
I just bought the last bottle at Galeries Lafayette - the fragrance is supposedly being discontinued... ;-(
P.S.:
What SabriNoir experienced three years ago can't be true somehow. At least I can't comprehend that.
