Straighter Softie
It was love at first sight or rather at first sniff between Les Parfums Mythiques Extravagance d`Amarige and me - I certainly didn’t expect that with a blind purchase. Normally, I can't get excited about the flankeritis that has been rampant for a few years now, but the pyramid of this offshoot of the 90s blockbuster Amarige from 2007 simply piqued my curiosity, as it deviates significantly from the original.
It starts with bittersweet mandarin and bitter marigold (Tagetes), to which the warmer and rounder notes of jasmine and orange blossom join, ultimately merging into a caressing blend with the slightly sweet amber, aromatic cedarwood, and softly creamy sandalwood - which is fortunately used very sparingly here - that hugs you like a cozy, extra-soft cardigan. A very skin-close scent that unites some contradictions within itself, as it is both gently dreamy and straight, but also floral-warm and bitter.
This member of the Les Parfums Mythiques line has nothing in common with the original Amarige at all. While Amarige is bold and loud as an EDT and even when applied sparingly leaves a massive scent trail behind, Les Parfums Mythiques Extravagance d`Amarige exercises refined restraint even with lavish application. The original Extravagance d`Amarige, released nearly ten years earlier, is richer and more complex in its scent development.
