A Jar of Red Jam in the Shape of an Ipod
Speaking of gimmicks, Givenchy PLAY FOR HER comes housed in what appears to be an ipod. Cute, I guess. The liquid, predictably, is adolescent as well. PLAY FOR HER smells remarkably similar to about twelve red jammy fruity florals that I've sniffed to date. In fact, this may smell like one of Givenchy's other recent launches. Perhaps they're pulling the Bvlgari trick of selling previously launched perfumes in new bottles.

Anyway, PLAY FOR HER lacks any perfumic interest to this nose. It's almost too sweet and the overall effect is that of a jar of red jam. I don't know why there are no fruits listed among the notes, but this level of sweetness could not be accounted for without something more sugary than tonka, it seems to me. I am confident that this fragrance will work for those to whom it is being marketed. I obviously do not fall into that niche.

Generic Sweet Floral
It took a few good years before I finally got around to testing Givenchy's Play for Her. I was consistently put-off by the MP3 Player inspired packaging, however since noting that this fragrance has many fans, I sought it out in my local department store and took a sniff.

Play for Her smelt the way I expected it to smell; sweet, airy and predictable. It's pleasant but ordinary to my nose. A basic blend of sugary orchid, fuzzy peach, creamy orange blossom, zingy pink pepper and slightly foody tonka bean.

It's kind of like a toned-down, more peppery version of Viktor & Rolf's Flowerbomb. They are not exactly the same, but there are some similarities. Thankfully, Play for Her is not sickeningly sweet.

I'm assuming that this fragrance sells reasonably well, however I'm sure that Very Irresistible and Amarige are still Givenchy's top female fragrances. Play for Her cannot top the Givenchy classics.

If you are searching for a 'girly' and light scent, then Play for Her would be the perfect choice. I find it to be quite inoffensive and suitable for all seasons. The lasting power is also not half bad. It's just a pity that Play for Her is so unoriginal and linear on the skin. It's not a particularly compelling fragrance, so I doubt that I could muster up the desire to wear it, even if I happened to own a bottle.

Bread and Games
My girlfriend wanted to treat me to a fragrance today, and I also value that we choose it together.
It should please both of us.
We tried this and that, but unanimously kept coming back to Play for her.

To my great satisfaction, as I have been hoarding the entire Play family - including the men's fragrance, which I even like, although I usually shy away from men's scents.

And also for her competed with the mild sunshine that warmed the perfumery and our spirits.
Despite the name, the fragrance is not playful, but rather mature and tends towards the elegant side - yet with a certain casualness.
It is transparent, but lasting - a good all-day scent.

The pink pepper has temperament and the orange blossom reflects the sunlight.
Orchid and Tiare make the fragrance floral - noble, and convey a positive message.
Patchouli adds depth and the tonka bean rounds off the scent softly and elegantly.

This optimistic attitude is inherent in all Plays - and I like that.
Uncomplicated yet full - monotony is not its thing.

Play - I have to think of "Bread and Games" - because I am equally fond of the fragrance and a well-baked bread.
It doesn't always have to be a three-tiered cake.

Play is what it claims to be - without any hooks or loops.
I like that.

A Blot on the Product List
of Givenchy. If I were them, I would quickly stop production and pretend nothing happened. I would cut off contact with Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann, Lucas Sieuzac, and Françoise Donche.

And yes, the bottle is indeed somewhat "hard on the eye." Embarrassing, all of it.

Edit: but if someone is interested in this fragrance and because I want to be informative:

It reminds me quite strongly of "Femme Individuelle" by Montblanc due to the pink pepper in the top note. At first, I thought of "Cascade" by Chopard, but compared to that, "Play" really lacks any edges or corners - and "Cascade" is already quite cute on its own.
The fruity note that comes from the blackcurrant in "Femme Individuelle" is provided by the orange blossom in "Play." The difference is surprisingly small. I don't know what is supposed to be African about this orange blossom. The orange, as we know, comes from China (ApfelSINE) and Southeast Asia. So even in the ingredient lists, the shoddiness begins. It probably aims to sound particularly exotic, just like the silly "bottle" is supposed to come across as particularly funky and young.
So nice and unobtrusive, ideal for the office.

Just like "Femme Individuelle" - great that the category of fragrance twins has just been introduced - the heart and base notes are even quieter than the top note.

How the balsam tree ended up in the iPod bottle, I don't know. I only know that balsam trees are a separate plant genus, consisting of a mere 2 (two) species, from whose resin Tolu or Peru balsam is obtained. Givenchy opted for the balsam tree instead of Tolu balsam. Or rather, for other parts of the tree. Probably the odorless parts, which would explain why no balsam tree can be smelled. But it does sound like something, right? Just like the flower of the nonexistent African orange.
Otherwise, in the heart note, there are exotic little flowers, "Femme Individuelle" does something similar, and where there is a bit of vanilla in the base alongside musk and patchouli, "Play" has called upon the tonka bean here.

Conclusion: the similarity is striking; I would actually speak of interchangeability here. So, anyone looking for a pleasant, delicate office or clean fragrance with a bit of fruitiness should reach for "Femme Individuelle." There is hardly any difference in scent, and a bottle that can be shown off. "Play" is as unnecessary as cold coffee.

Rosafluffy Bottle
I became aware of it because of the pink bottle and the glittery stones. Actually, I'm not really into that anymore, but sometimes the teenage girly side of me comes through. I bought it blind (once again a blind purchase), which did not disappoint me. I imagined it to be much sweeter and can't quite understand why this fragrance is received so poorly. (Tastes are different, after all ;) )
The first spray is very pleasant; a fresh sweetness and later a bit fruity. A fresh fruity sweetness. It immediately lifts your spirits and gives a sense of lightness. Overdoing it with this fragrance should be difficult, but the longevity could be a bit longer.
I really like the scent and the
bottle feels good in the hand. It doesn’t feel like cheap plastic at all, rather high-quality and made with attention to detail ????
I'm glad to have this beautiful fragrance in my collection. A scent for the carefree days in life ✨

The florals; sweet pea in particular, help make this a gorgeous floral-powder-musk! So sad it's discontinued, lucky my mum had a bottle.

No fragrance compares to it. Sadly, it’s discontinued now. Its scent feels like therapy—just one whiff, and you’re instantly calm

Mainstream can be sooo beautiful: At best, you have a complex character - that balances it out. 90s: Hairspray + Lipstick scent.

Disappointing Givenchy: fruit puree + floral synthetic, no Tiaré, watery-aquatic, lots of Ambroxan. Slightly better quality than "Miss Wild Joop"

You can debate the scent, but the bottle is unbeatable practical in the handbag.
