Energizing Fragrance

Summertime Ambrosia

Today I decided to shuffle through my collection in search of orange blossoms, I began to crave their springtime redolence as I continued to watch the mercury drop and ice crystallize outside my window. As I was digging I came across my vial of Long Board, a fragrance which I had enjoyed but one that didn’t speak to me initially as it’s not the type of fragrance I usually gravitate towards. The one thing I had remembered, though, was that there was an incredibly beautiful note of orange blossom. I sprayed some to my arm and went on with my day. About an hour later I could detect the most exquisite aroma, lo and behold it was me! radiating from my arms were the most exquisite wafts of stunningly lactonic coconut along with a velvety bouquet of immaculate white flowers. I find this bit so interesting because as full and beautiful as the tuberose, jasmine and orange blossoms are they seem to maintain a gossamer levity that allows a radiant accord of a salty seaside to permeate the airspace. It’s a juxtaposition I’ve not had the pleasure of experiencing in perfumery before. As it dries down there is a particular warmth that strikes me, it is sweet but not saccharine or artificial. It’s simply comforting and reminiscent of being swathed in luxuriant cashmere. I could not be happier to have given this fragrance another try, it has proven once again that some of the loveliest fragrances have a bit of a courtship before one can truly appreciate what beauty they possess. Top marks for Long Board, summertime ambrosia.

A lovely tour from morning to evening at the beach

Like the thematically similar Chapter 1, Scent Stories Vol.1/Ch.01 - Dune Road, this is a beautifully unique beach opener. A very green, culinary, dry cardamom, it releases just a hint of sweetness, already slightly intertwined with a pinch of coconut flakes, creating a very interesting combo, and then there's the salt, truly not everyday, but through this creamy connection also not too far-fetched.

Within just 10 minutes, the sunscreen note subtly joins in, fitting well into the fresh base theme, naturally pulling it more into the creamy territory, along with the coconut, yet it doesn't simply become the typical sweet mainstream coconut beach scent, retaining a bit of its own character.

In the finish, it then gets a really cozy-warm amber-orange blossom background, delicate vanilla, bright, fresh grasses, inviting one to linger and relax once more.

I really like it, surprisingly well for the notes that don't actually scream my name. I find the combination very balanced and yet never too boring when compared to similar candidates. In particular, the re-emerging base gives it a little twist away from pure freshness, leaning more towards resting and snuggling by the beach campfire in the evening (though no smoke to imagine, more the cozy warmth of amber).

At first, I think I smell watermelon, cool and fresh, like in "Femina" by Ferreti. However, the pyramid does not mention it. Probably a synthetic fragrance that can also be classified as "aquatic" or "marine"...
Instead of sunscreen, I first have the scent of shoe polish in my nose, albeit a pleasant kind. But soon this "I know this from somewhere" feeling comes back. Intense pondering... This is again that rather heavy floral-sweet, slightly spicy scent, somewhere between honeysuckle and sweet pea, although I mean the natural flowers, because no honeysuckle or sweet pea perfume has really come close to what I smell in the garden.
And there are two very similar perfumes that convey this scent impression, although honeysuckle or sweet pea do not appear in the pyramid: "Beachy" and "L’Eau de Monteil".
Yes, I perceive "Long-Board" as a "scent sister" to the two, although not as a twin.

The two previously mentioned I traditionally use in April, but they fit, just like "Long-Board" of course, very well for a sultry midsummer evening, as they create the illusion of beach feeling in the tropics.
