Timeless feminine style and grace
In 1951, attention in New York focused on the young European girl called Audrey Hepburn, who starred in the Broadway production of "Gigi". In it, a restless young woman attracts the attention of an older playboy while receiving etiquette lessons to become a lady of the aristocracy.
In 1953, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn delighted us with the unforgettable romantic comedy "Roman Holiday". They played a charming reporter and a bored royal princess who decides to have some anonymous fun in Rome. Hepburn's performance received an Oscar for Best Actress.
In 1954, two brothers from an influential American family fall in love with "Sabrina". She was the chauffeur's daughter who had just returned home after a two-year stay in Paris. The youthful charm of the Oscar-nominated Audrey attracts all the attention of Humphrey Bogart, who plays the business-minded older brother.
After another Oscar nomination for "The Nun's Story" in 1959, Audrey Hepburn played a dreamy, free-spirited luxury companion who dreams of marrying a rich man and becoming an actress. In 1961, this portrayal earned her fourth Oscar nomination for "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
In 1964, the pompous Professor Henry Higgins, played by Sir Rex Harrison, is so convinced of his abilities that he takes it upon himself to transform a Covent Garden flower girl into a lady who can pass for a member of high society. This is the enchanting and strong-willed Eliza Doolittle, played by Audrey Hepburn. She achieved her greatest public recognition with her role in "My Fair Lady".
Audrey Hepburn proved her versatility as a successful actress by being nominated for an Oscar for the fifth time for her performance in "Wait Until Dark", in which a recently blinded young woman is terrorised by a trio of thugs looking for a doll filled with heroin she suspects is in her flat.

Born in Brussels, Audrey Hepburn was an even bigger character than her film career suggests. As a young ballet student during World War II, Hepburn helped the Dutch resistance against the invaders. She later became a dedicated goodwill ambassador, travelling the world to support the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
Audrey Hepburn, the artist, always moved in the limbo between the status of a girl and that of an adult woman. Her eternally youthful image was an epitome of charm, elegance, grace and sophistication. She was one of the greatest style icons of 20th-century fashion and Hubert de Givenchy recognised her as his muse. The French designer dedicated "L'Interdit (1957) (Perfume) | Givenchy" to her. Hubert de Givenchy was the son of a French marquis and Audrey Hepburn, the daughter of a Dutch baroness. The two have had a close friendship for 40 years and a shared love of fashion that has enchanted the whole world. They were always close companions and worked together on the extremely elegant dresses she wore in her films and at public appearances.

When I first smelled L'Interdit (2021) Eau de Parfum Rouge, I immediately thought of Audrey Hepburn. This perfume is "lady" enough and "girl" enough to remind me of Givenchy's muse. The original L'Interdit (1957) Parfum smells of aldehydes mixed with fruity and floral notes. The powdery feeling is dominant but not overwhelming. The fruity notes of peach and strawberry and the powdery accords of rose, iris and white flowers give L'Interdit (1957) Parfum a spring-like character. The recent L'Interdit (2021) Eau de Parfum Rouge loses the aldehyde note and powdery feel of the now sixty-year-old original. On the top, we experience a hint of tangy, sweet and juicy blood orange mixed with a hint of refreshing ginger. In the fragrance heart, an intense, sensual and slightly sweet accord of white flowers develops, but also shows green nuances. I detect jasmine, but the focus is on the tuberose note, a resinous, almost dirty and glorious tuberose. Despite the top and heart notes described, this is not a fresh fragrance. The spicy and woody undertones of pimento leaf, fragrant sandalwood and slightly dark patchouli give this perfume a sense of warmth, making it very deep and sensual and suitable for cold weather and evening or night-time occasions.
In short, the fragrance is warm, velvety, sensual, cosy and sweet. It is also very versatile and can be worn at a dinner party, an evening out with friends, in the comfort of your own home, or even while walking around town. I can imagine a graceful young girl wearing it, but it also suits very well the flair of a grown-up beautiful woman. It's just so perfect. It's just so Audrey. The face of the ad campaign is Oscar-winning actress Patricia Rooney Mara. Did you notice the similarities with Audrey Hepburn?

Let me give you some numbers on L'Interdit (2021) Eau de Parfum Rouge:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
- Scent opening: 8.5 (juicy blood orange, some ginger freshness and powerful tuberose).
- Scent finish: 9.5 (Sweetness of white flowers with fragrant sandalwood and a dark hint of patchouli).
- Longevity: 9.0 (3 sprays last 9 to 10 hours).
- Sillage: 8.0 (up to 5~6 feet and 2.5 hours of projection with 3 sprays).
- Uniqueness: 7.5 (As a flanker, it reminds me a little of L'Interdit (2020) Eau de Parfum Intense; but I also feel a certain closeness to Le Vestiaire - Supreme Bouquet, actually blended by Dominique Ropion, Armani Privé - Rouge Malachite and Hugo Deep Red).
- Wearability: 9.0 (Do not wear in hot weather; do consider it both a day and night perfume).
- Versatility: 8.5 (Hardly a perfume suitable for outdoors, the beach, the gym or physical activities. It is very versatile and shines both in intimacy and at an elegant evening event).
- Praise: 9.0 (You will get way more compliments than average).
- Quality: 9.0 (I can mention an undesirable bubble-gum faint accord; for my preferences, this is the only flaw I detect).
- Presentation: 9.0 (Very elegant).
- Price: 7.5: The 85-ml bottle is currently selling for €100 at various internet retailers; as this is a fairly new perfume, I expect the price to drop to around €80 shortly).
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Overall rating: 8.59 / 10.00
- between 7 and 8 = above average;
- between 8 and 9 = recommendable;
- above 9 = definitely not to be missed;

My opinion: This perfume feels very good on a woman's skin. It is sweet, spicy and floral. On the finish, it is oriental and woody. It is my "Audrey Hepburn modern perfume". However, due to its price, I would not recommend it for a blind purchase.

Music: "Moon River" composed by Henry Mancini, lyrics by Johnny Mercer and sung by Audrey Hepburn.

Interdita Intensia and Interdella Rouge - Two sisters from the house of Givenchy
Spritzig and fresh fruity is the start of "Le Rouge" for my nose and almost a little overloaded in the first moment. But then he takes back a little and the actual wonderful fragrance experience can begin.

Even though the fragrance belongs in the here and now, I see before my eyes completely different images.
I travel in my mind to the year 1910.

The two sisters Interdita and Interdella strolling along the lakeshore.
Their long, figure-hugging gowns allow only small steps, and from their delicate leather shoes, their shiny little noses can each be briefly glimpsed under the moving layers of lace beneath their dresses. Every movement results in a small rustle of the layered fabric and the touching down of the leather soles on the pebbled path causes a soft crunching sound with every step.

The fabrics are kept classy but monochrome, the sections of the ¾-sleeves ending in white lace that trumpets off the close-cut arm.
Both necklines feature a double collar between them, as if the tailor could not have decided on either alone. One encloses the neck with round flap edge, is buttoned in the middle and edged with black velvet.
Separated by some openwork lace follows a wide pleated ruffle band that goes all the way up the chest, as if the point of it is to somewhat hide the shapes underneath. Below this a velvet bow makes the finish, and its loop and the ribbons sway in the movements of the steps.

The sisters are almost the same age. The younger Interdita wears her dress in black and the older Interdella wears a very similar one in dark red. Only the laces and edgings stand out from the dress color . To this they wear huge plate-like hats with cloth flowers of the same color, and even the open walking-umbrellas with their flowing lace borders, laid over their shoulders, are exactly in the colors of their respective gowns.

The sight of the beautiful ladies in the wonderful gowns soon attracts admirers.
Increasingly, behind the two strolling ladies and at a proper distance, a larger and larger group of very elegantly dressed gentlemen is formed, who happen to be on the lakeshore or on purpose and become aware of the two. Here is observed, admired, discovered and whispered and not infrequently acquaintances arise on these paths.
Whether they become fleeting affairs, serious relationships, or liaisons forged by families, only one thing matters here: people come here to see and to be seen.

The two ladies take a seat in a small café with garden seating right by the lake. It is time for a tea and one can risk with the sipping at the cup an effort indifferent look at the way passing by or to the other tables, without the intention behind it being immediately obvious. Of course, the sisters would like to try their luck here and catch a well-heeled gentleman as a husband. After all, they are both still in their prime, but time does not rest.
Two gentlemen from the "entourage" immediately seize the opportunity and hastily sat down next to a lady at each of the adjacent tables.
Already on their way, the two must have noticed the beguiling scents of the two ladies and how they wove their way through the air to them a few steps behind and tickled their senses. Seemingly by accident, one might think, but anyone who puts on such exquisite waters would most certainly want to be noticed by them.

The gentleman next to the Interdita dressed in black now immediately notices the dense veil of tuberose with a peppery tangy cherry aroma and light caramel note, which contains something in it, which makes him think for a moment. Doesn't the note remind him of the bakery in Old Town that sprinkles toasted sesame seeds over the still-warm buttery croissants? It's a delicious scent that makes him want more, and he moves a little closer, seemingly unnoticed. Through the warmth of Interdita's skin, the finest vanilla exudes her seduction in his direction, transporting his senses to a faraway dreamland and a lonely sandy beach where he meets up with this incredibly fragrant lady for a tête-à-tête. While he dreams up the rest of the story to go along with his glass of wine, the other gentleman on the other side is also in the mood for adventure.

Across from and only an arm's width away from the dark red clad Interdella, he indulges in the pleasure of the cloud of scent that floats from her to him. The first thing he hears is a fresh and fruity note caressing his twirled mustache and then meandering up his nose and he too swears he hears cherries, only he imagines them swimming in a delicious syrup of jasmine and tuberose, for the scent is all soft and sensual, delicious and beguiling to him. He can hardly believe what is flowing towards him either. As if a densely perfumed dark red velvet would be laid over his face and he would float away in the spirit under it into the seventh heaven.

While the two gentlemen are dazedly indulging in their dreams, the ladies have long since noticed what is happening in their immediate vicinity and are whispering animatedly under the protection of their expansive hats. Giggling, they tug their dress collars and sleeves into place, only to catch a furtive glimpse of the dreamy faces next to them.
As they finally rise gingerly from their little table to continue their walk, the gentlemen also instantly shoot up from their chairs, lift their top hats, present their best smiles, and gallantly offer an arm to the lady of their choice.

The two couples first stroll side by side along the path by the lake. From afar, a few scraps of words and laughter filter through the lake breeze back to the café.
Later, the groups of two continue in different directions.
I wonder what they are talking about?

I have dared a comparison of the two "Interdit" fragrances and I personally like the "Le Rouge" better, because it is for my nose more tuned, more harmonious, softer and gesammthaft rounder. With time, this reinforces my impression even more, when an almost vanilla veil comes to rest on the skin. Then the fragrance is the most beautiful for me.

Listening, however, you can both sisters very well.
They just do not have quite the same character.

No little Cinderella
L'interdit Rouge is not a girl. She is a grown-up lady, a full-fledged woman.

While her younger sister, L'interdit Intense, dances the night away in a club, she sits in her velvet red robe at the opera, occasionally throwing a mysterious smile at the gentleman behind her. He follows her through the crowd at intermission, but only sees her put down her champagne glass and dive into the night barefoot.
Barefoot not because, like Cinderella, she's hoping for a prince to carry her shoes after her.
Barefoot because they were a nuisance to her.

L'interdit Rouge is mysterious, dark, tame on the skin - but tamed rather than well-behaved.

The sharp blood orange opening is slowly captured by the ginger spice and then gently enveloped in a tuberose-jasmine embrace; the orange blossom dances to it.

Grounded by woods and an almost incense-like patchouli, this creates a rounded composition that evokes associations of a dark autumn or winter night for me.

Rarely has a bottle or its color hit a fragrance so well!

Red light?
Forbidden is the name of the perfume. EdP had left an impression of intense tuberose. EdT a bit more airy, fun-loving and with more sillage. EdP intense reminded me of sesame oil massage, except the sesame oil is sweetened. Don't want to badmouth the perfume here. Good it is and lasts a long time too. Good they all three are! Now the red baby came on the market. I like it the best. It's rounder somehow, the sweet and sour components are even better balanced. I think it's great! Definitely worth trying!
