What About Oud for 540
I)
I am completely relaxed. After all, I’m on vacation and surfing. One of my favorite hobbies. I’m in Hawaii at Ehukai Beach or at Praia do Norte Nazaré in Portugal, followed by smoked rump steak carpaccio and 1, 2, 3 cocktails at A Fornalha. Well, almost. I’m sitting at my notebook, browsing through offers on eBay...
Hold on! Sakura Earth. Cool bottle. My daughter is into mangas and everything that comes from Japan. Very cheap and still 15% off today. Click. There’s that old hunter in me again. What else does the shop have? Cuba Wild Heart, which is supposed to smell like Millésime Impérial. I have to try that too. Click into the shopping cart. And now? Clio pour Homme by Lé Chameau. Never heard of it. There’s nothing about it online. Just one page with .az. Aha!? 32.90 is what it costs there. Mind you, that’s Azerbaijani Manats, as I find out with the help of Google. So the offer -15% is not a bad deal. Click.

Then it was in front of me. I carefully pull the contents out of the packaging. It looks exactly like the picture on parfumo. The bottle is made of heavy glass, the casing is plastic, imitating a golden liquid that melts down the side of a slate block. I remove the casing. No way. The cap is actually magnetic. Without the casing, the bottle looks like the Empire State Building rotated 90°. Coincidence? Probably not.
The first spray on my skin, alongside a test strip. Puhhh... Very alcoholic, almost like nail polish, remains very synthetic for 2-3 minutes. Then the apple and saffron become very present. And that stays the same. After 10 to 15 minutes, the oud and cinnamon slowly come through, but they don’t take over. Much later, vanilla and leather join in, rounding off the apple and saffron. Overall, this is a gourmand sweet fruity scent with oriental roots.
My imagination is of a successful potpourri of three scents. You take the saffron from Baccarat Rouge 540, the apple from What about Adam, and the oud from Oud for Greatness, and you get What About Oud for 540 or simply Clio pour Homme.
Longevity and sillage are very decent. I can still smell the scent comfortably 7-8 hours on my skin and two days in my clothes. So be careful! If you spray 5 times, you might be alone longer, but you might have the longer breath in the end.
In summary, the scent is not a complex storytelling. It tells you right from the start what it is and what it intends to stay. It rides on the hype of saffron and is an undiscovered hero in the shadow of its muse and an absolute price monster. So if you encounter this Clio while surfing or elsewhere, you should definitely grab it. Click.
