my first perfume love

i got a decant tester of this a few months ago and after the first wear i knew i needed a bottle of this. i can't stop smelling myself when i wear this. it's soooo addicting to me and i can't wait to wear it all summer. gorgeous orchid is pure delicious ozonic vanilla orchid, and it wasn't until i read other reviews that i could smell banana. there's definitely banana laffy taffy in the background somehow but despite hating actual bananas i love banana laffy taffy so it doesn't bother me at all lmao. it's a very yummy scent!

Uninspired and one-dimensional

The initial cloud was floral and creamy, like an overly sweet custard. Less powdery than I feared. Not great, not terrible. Ozonic notes were pretty pronounced and made the whole thing almost palatable. At that point I was even kind of hopeful about it. There was potential that once the initial cloud subsides and the fragrance properly opens up, I might actually enjoy it!

Well, that never happened. The ozone was a delight and this perfume's only saving grace for me personally, but it wasn't enough to offset the sweetness. The initial aggressive cloud took about 40 minutes to mellow out (or maybe my nose just gave up by then?), but even past that point nothing really ever changed. There was the basic vanilla, there was the orchid, they were both so sweet that my teeth hurt. If one could get diabetes from smell alone, this thing would probably already be outlawed in a few European countries.

It's hard to put this feeling into words, but I felt like it never became a proper sum of its parts. Like each of the three simple notes were there on their own, never really mixing together into a proper composition. Battling for my attention and overloading my senses in the process instead of working together to create something worthwhile.

It never evolved or changed in a meaningful way, just slowly got less and less obnoxious until it disappeared from my skin completely in about 3 hours. Far from the worst fragrance I came across thus far, but for that price tag I found the execution too cheap and uninspired.

From Dislike to Love

I didn’t expect to love Flora Gorgeous Orchid - in fact, when I smelled it in store first I was unimpressed and even disliked it, so I wrote it off. Then I tried "Atheeri / أثيري | Lattafa / لطافة" and fell head over heels for the scent DNA, so revisited Flora Gorgeous Orchid expecting to not need it since I had Atheeri. Gorgeous Orchid has a banana note at the opening that I can’t get enough of, and to my nose it’s much fruitier and bubblier than Atheeri. I own and love both, and I’m so glad I revisited Gorgeous Orchid.

It’s okay

I really enjoyed this fragrance more in the beginning. It smelled like a citrus somewhat vanilla candy, though i did get told it smelled like a citrus cleaner (yikes lol).
Fresh and sweet, really pretty! Then it was more of a sweet (not sugary or gourmand) creamy white floral scent, still nice but not the biggest fan of florals so i wasnt vibing with it as much anymore.
Then after while that sweetness left and all im left with is that creamy white floral but now with a “freshness” to it. Think of the scent of a watermelon rind, that’s the scent that was there mixed with that floral. Not a fan anymore after that

Vanilla Under the Sun

This Flora Gorgeous Orchid feels like vanilla under the sun.

One could swear they catch a hint of green banana - not quite ripe - that might have slipped into a basket of exotic orchids. There's also a suggestion of ylang-ylang, calling to mind a faraway island sunscreen - chic rather than loud.

The vanilla reveals itself slowly: neither dessert-like nor oriental, but soft and enveloping. The whole thing has the feel of a holiday.

Flora Gorgeous Orchid may not be groundbreaking, but it has the charm of being simply pleasant. A joyful, well-crafted little sensory escape.
