Wherefore art thou, Shalimar?

I won't bother going on to a rant over how many times can a brand milk a cash cow, but one thing should be noted straight away. Shalimar Souffle de Lumiere has absolutely nothing to do with the original Shalimar. Not even any of the flankers known to me. Understandably, this is an attempt to cash on a big name, however, I will focus on the scent itself. One might argue that there is a grain of the original DNA present via the top layer of citruses and vanilla. The scent comes off to a very bright, crisp and delicate opening. The sweet, sparkly bergamot is rounded by a delicate vanilla touch to resemble a dessert in some way, not too sweet though. The heart is a warm jasmine, fairly creamy, "fleshy" in a way, thanks to ylang, and I wouldn't call it airy. Overall, this is not a complex composition, it's very straight to the point, and does not pretend to be what it's not. It is behaving like a souffle, and you absolutely certainly get the "luminous" feel from this scent as the name suggests. Souffle de Lumiere is a fresh scent and perfect for those looking for something simple and perhaps, more traditionally suited for the warmer times of the year without the need for opting for something blander. I personally enjoyed the scent, it lasted a very long time, but the projection left me wishing for a better performance, and there is a certain need to reapply, and a lot you will be reapplying. I can understand why this has been discontinued, but at the same time I personally have little complaints about it. The price point, nonetheless, is all up to interpretation because my bottle has been obtained at a bargain price. Perhaps, I should note that I would not want to buy this had it cost more.

Recently in the perfume store..... "hello.... here..... hello.... can't you see me???" I'm standing here. No, not next to my big sister Shalimar EdP. I'm here with my mother Souffle de Shalimar. She married my father Eau de Shalimar. Well, and the result is me. A pure scent in a delicate white half-gown. My father is so delighted with me that I get to carry my mother's name "souffle" but shine like a bright light. Hence my middle name Lumiere.
I want to shine too. I chase away the gray veils with the lightness of bergamot and juggle with beautiful flowers like jasmine and ylang-ylang to reach the next round for the heart of my wearer. Then I merge in the base with all my contents into a light vanilla.

It's a pity that I'm much shyer than all my Shalimar relatives. I whisper my talent very gently onto the skin. I also don't dare to stay for too long. I evaporate quite quickly. But the moment I linger on your skin will give you a beautiful, light, and carefree experience. Just take me with you wherever you want and spray me again if needed. You'll see: even with me, less is often more. Because when you need me, when you need a touch of lightness and well-being, I'm ready at the spray button for you.

In the Garden of White Flowers

Recently, Thierry Wasser, who created this fragrance, explained that the perfumeries demand that he constantly creates new flankers. The customer must be kept entertained with constant new releases, it is said. If these new releases also recycle the big name and iconic bottle of a recognized masterpiece, all the better, because: recognizability. However, Shalimar Souffle de Lumiere (SSDL) has nothing to do with Shalimar in terms of scent, nor with Shalimar Initial, and in my opinion not much with the Shalimar Souffles either.
A white Shalimar - now that's something different. Above all, it is also paradoxical. Shalimar "Classic," the heavy, seductive oriental-sensual original - and SSDL, the offshoot that dances its name as a noble light figure with flowers in its hair on Midsummer Night.
I smell only orange blossoms, but not yet opened, innocent ones; jasmine, but not the one that enchants the white nights of Seville, rather the mild, reserved version, and ylang not in full regalia.
Summer flower soft tender green in the heart note, fresh spice in the base. It could perform a bit more, but such delicate dream plants fade too quickly...
