A Lovely Amber Oud Perfume
Keiko Mecheri CUIR FAUVE may be wild for this house, but it seems pretty tame to me. It reminded me initially a bit of Parfumerie Générale L'OMBRE FAUVE, but I think that I was influenced by the name. And the amber. One big difference is that there is no patchouli in this perfume whatsoever, as far as I can tell, but the tobacco may be playing a similar role.

To my nose, CUIR FAUVE is without a doubt an amber perfume with an oudy edge. Very smooth, however, and likeable. There is a touch of florality to it as well. I believe that both oud and amber enthusiasts will enjoy this creation, as those two notes are quite detectable yet harmoniously married. Those who have been decrying the strange phenomenon of oudless oud perfumes will be relieved to know that there is still hope. Ironically, this oud perfume does not boast of its oud in the name!

Once again, I find the leather to be less pronounced in this creation, but, hey, what's in a name? Aren't they all metaphors anyway, at the end of the day?

A Story of Soft Sensual Suede
A buttery soft suede pouch filled with high quality humidor aged tobacco sits on the side table next to the waiting pipe, reading glasses and an old leather bound copy of Chaucer's Cantebury Tales, in the gentlemen's sitting room. The room itself is tidy, clean and well-appointed. The lord of the house sips his sweet ruby port aged in oak barrels and contemplates his next political maneuver. The Grand Madame of the house sits in the exterior sewing room sipping rich vanilla tea in her sumptuous satin evening gown and wearing the purest amber resin brought to her as a gift from the gentleman's travels to the orient. The fire light from the hearth creates a gentle warmth as their lovely young daughter, smelling of fresh orange blossom water plays a cello piece to sooth their souls. Their divinely angelic, yet robust son, nearly a man stands near the heat of the fireplace in an indigo velveteen smoking jacket contemplating a return to some mysterious opium den, heavy with resinous oud incense and hazy with hallucinations, meanwhile turns his attention to the smooth and achingly alluring skin of the neighbor's daughter, the handmaiden, the dairymen's daughter, really every young woman he has ever met all rolled into one glorious secret erotic thought disguised in a noble aristocratic pose.

Cuir Fauve
Opens with an extremely dry suede accord paired with an aromatic honey note (orange blossom in disguise) and a resinous wood note. Combined, the notes/accords create an intense leather scent which I doesn’t do anything for me. I like my leathers smooth and soft like the finest lambskin, but this leather is dusty and parched. Despite the addition of orange blossom, ambergris and vanilla the scent is characterised by its animalic and resinous facets. Only towards the end, when the leather and aoud have burned out do I see a sweetish vanilla enhanced by what is left of the wood and amber accords.

Simply wonderful - I can't think of anything else for a title
With the purchase of a sample, I received some testers. In the evening while watching TV, I randomly grabbed one, Cuir Fauve, thinking there wasn't much in it (not knowing yet what an expensive fragrance it was) and took an unbiased spritz. Herbal, dark leather with a slightly prickly sharpness enveloped me. I liked it a lot. At the same time, patchouli emerged in the background, dark and spicy, noticeable yet not demanding or overwhelming. Cuir Fauve lingers for a long time; I wrote a statement, thinking the fragrance was more for the (supposedly) strong gender. Then I went to bed. I haven't known a full night's sleep for years; after three hours, I woke up, went to get a drink, and thought, why do you smell so good? I sniffed at my wrist, my goodness, this scent had become even more intense and spicier. Now the leather and patchouli were softly underlaid with a vanilla pod, which sweetens and warms gently. Furthermore, I smelled smoke, just a hint. I went back to bed, resting my perfumed arm under my head, blissfully dozing off again. Even after showering the next morning, I could still perceive a strong hint of Cuir Fauve.

I also looked at the price in the meantime; 230,-- euros for 50 ml is a figure that I wouldn't just order - despite many blind buys that I better not tally up. Because in terms of fragrance, I ignite quickly. And extinguish just as fast... Nevertheless, Cuir Fauve is a wonderful, multifaceted scent with depth, unisex, with very good longevity and strong sillage.

I was already looking forward to the second test; there was still a drop left. Yesterday, my little nephew, who is two years old, was there, enthusiastically eating plum cake, chatting us silly, and examining everything that came into his hands. "Is that?" I heard him ask Mr. Pluto while I was working in the kitchen. I returned to the living room, sniffed. "That's perfume," Mr. Pluto explained and said to me, "I sprayed him a little." With Cuir Fauve, the child simply smelled wonderful. Thank you, dear Mrs. I. from F. :o)

Vicious
After I saw how much 50 ml of the reddish leather costs, I swallowed hard. I particularly appreciate having received a sample.

Once again, a scent progression that I have not experienced before.
It smells a bit like marzipan, sweet, yet also has a dry leather note. Tobacco has that sweetness too.
It’s a back and forth between almost lovely and rough, yet so gentle.
And Cuir Fauve is a fragrance where I find the oud fantastic. Those who have not gotten along with it so far may find their way here.

The combination of vanilla-sweet and leather-smoky, embedded in oud at the base, I call vicious. A fragrance for very specific occasions/evenings, and it is now up to each individual to decide what represents special moments in life for them.

Delicate leather, amber, vanilla, a hint of oud. A recipe for a niche fragrance from 2012. Today, very similar and much cheaper options are often available.

On the velvety suede couch in violet purple, the smoking cat knocked over the flower pot. Black soil everywhere. Herbal + vanilla sweet.

Very special and not too dark due to the vanilla addition; spicy-earthy with an animalistic touch: a bit confusing, but interesting!

Smells like a glamorous fragrance from days gone by. Spicy, fiery, heavy-floral. Rough and delicate at the same time. A scent for the bold.
