Ode to Femininity
Bois Satin is yet another beautifully subtle fragrance. A super feminine scent. Oriental-spicy but in a pleasantly soft way.

Bois Satin - satinwood - an ode to femininity - reminds me a bit of Féminité du bois, not that the scent smells the same, not at all, but the effect that Bois Satin has on me is almost the same as with Féminité du bois.
The fragrance is labeled as unisex, but I perceive it as feminine, not girlish, no, Bois Satin is more of a woman in her prime. Experienced, mature, knows what she wants, stands in life and is aware of her femininity.

Bois Satin is vanilla-fluffy, woody-soft, mandarin-fruity, flower-delicate, spice-deep
dry-earthy, amber-creamy, soft-leathery, skin-caressing and soul-touching...

However, the scent is not an all-rounder, not a crowd-pleasing fragrance, not a scent made for every woman.
It can certainly be polarizing, the spicy notes may come off as too dry and dusty for some noses.
It is also not a gourmand in the sense of "edible", and the flowers are hardly discernible.
Instead, there is dark spicy vanilla, amber, and woods. Yes, the woods are the supporting base of this charmer. It is round and melts into the skin, radiating less and gently enveloping you in a soft, smooth satin fabric.
One could describe Bois Satin as a "winter fragrance", the spices, woods, vanilla, patchouli, leather, and amber evoke a longing for cozy winter months by the warm fire, the scent of Christmas in the air, a cup of tea, and softly falling snow. But in my opinion, it can be worn all year round, except perhaps on sweltering hot days.

The scent character is somewhat similar to Obsession Eau de Parfum but Obsession is significantly more sensual. Bois Satin, on the other hand, is softer, quieter, and much sweeter but just as fascinating.
Longevity is very good, sillage is not strong, which I personally find very pleasant.
Unfortunately, the fragrance has been discontinued, but with a bit of luck, you can still find it at a good price.

Leather Orientals that I love
Who would have thought that I would ever fall in love with a leather oriental? I usually steer clear of fragrances that list leather (whether "wild" or "smooth") as an ingredient. I have tried too many, and each time, that leather note has bothered me incredibly. I also struggle quite a bit with oriental scents.

Well - I do like some of Mercheri's, so I sprayed the sample of "Bois Satin" on my wrist with the preconceived notion of "I won't like it because of the leather." And "bang," it hit me like a bomb: "What is this insane stuff?" Wow - I loved it from the very first spray.

About the scent: It starts off citrusy, powdery, and a bit sweet (with the sweetness being pleasant and not cloying). The citrus and sweetness remain throughout the entire fragrance journey for me. The citrus note likely comes from the mandarin, which I can't identify as mandarin - more like a little lemon. Very quickly, vanilla joins in along with some wood. That's it - the scent remains pleasantly noticeable on my skin for over seven hours; lemon tart, vanilla, little wood. I can't detect rose and jasmine, and the spiciness of saffron is only faintly present. There is sillage, but never so much that it imposes the fragrance on those around you. Anyone who comes a bit closer will be able to smell it well.

All in all, a lovely cozy scent that for me leans towards "Aura Sublime" - just without becoming too gourmand but with beautiful woods in the base. If "Aura Sublime" is too sweet-gourmand for you, you should definitely give "Bois Satin" a try. Also, those who don't like "Bois d'Argent" due to the leather note (like me) should also put "Bois Satin" to the test. For those who usually struggle with most orientals - this one could be the one for you. I can actually recommend this fine scent to every lady to try at least once. Men, not so much - unless they are very brave:).

You beautiful Satinwood ...
... you gently envelop me and merge with my skin ...
Bois Satin is sensual - intimate - beautiful!

The creations of the Japanese perfumer are rather "quiet" (at least the ones I tested) and I was on the lookout for just such a "quiet" fragrance :)
So far, however, the Keiko Mecheri scents haven't fully convinced me. Only one made it into my collection ... although the Loukhoum range is completely different.
Then I actually managed to take the plunge and make 2 blind buys here in the Souk within a week.
One quickly found its way back to the Souk and has been waiting for a new home ever since ... but Bois Satin captured me immediately!

About the scent:
Mandarin and saffron dominate the opening. Spicy-citrusy and juicy, it wafts from the wrist. The vanilla joins in quite quickly and blends with the juicy mandarin.
Floral notes of rose and jasmine weave into the scent progression. It doesn’t smell overly floral, though.
The suede doesn’t take long to appear either. It’s just a nuance, but that’s exactly the nuance the fragrance needs.
With amber and woods, it moves into the base.
The vanilla remains present in the base ... it's just darker, deeper, and very sensual now.
I still think I can sniff delicate mandarin sprinkles in the scent.
Bois Satin is a warm, flattering vanilla fragrance with just the right nuances of scent notes. Amber, woods, and leather are perfectly harmonized with the vanilla, and everything comes together to form a special whole.
The fragrance is never too sweet or cloying ... it is very mature.
It’s not a loud scent ... the scent aura is quiet, sensual, intimate!
Longevity is around 8 hours plus.
Satinwood is wearable all year round ... in the height of summer, it might be a bit too much, though.
Unisex? I perceive Bois Satin as a rather feminine scent.
The bottle is not exactly the prettiest ... it seems too bulky for the delicate fragrance. Still, it feels valuable and is very heavy.

Conclusion:
Gently you envelop me...
Mandarin sprinkles on vanilla.
You merge with my skin.
Amber, woods, leather ... sensual - intimate - beautiful!

Pssst ... truly a beautiful, pleasant fragrance ... it’s worth a test for anyone looking for a "quiet" scent ... it doesn’t always have to be loud and crashing :)

Stylish Intimacy
There are a few fragrances among a thousand others that are so full of emotions. That Bois Satin by the Japanese Keiko Mecheri is such an example, I already knew before our first encounter, because the following quote had completely burned itself into my mind: "Bois Satin is not a fragrance, it is much more an attitude. This is how a woman should smell in intimate moments." Each of us experiences these moments quite individually, and I still find it a bit difficult to generalize these experiences in a perfume. This automatically raises questions for me like: how do intimate moments smell? What is actually intimate? And do you really want to smell specifically like something during those moments? But since I decided some time ago to never approach a new fragrance with bias or negativity, I gave this creation the chance in a quiet moment to prove its extravagance, yes its attitude. The words still subtly echoed in my ears, my eyes were long closed. Because fragrances are experienced; they are not always tangible or understandable for everyone, yet almost always perceptible. The only important thing is that you are willing to engage with them. No matter how the final critique may turn out. The spritz on my left wrist is nice and good but somehow so obligatory, and that was the wrong starting point for this artwork. So I opened my hair and let the gentle spray mist take its place softly. Behind the ear or on the neck would certainly have been a welcome alternative, but for the time being, this spot seemed quite appropriate to me.

In virtual fragrance reviews, it is said to be an irresistibly feminine and velvety perfume that has chosen the noble aura of vanilla as its focus. Vanilla and I rarely get along well. Often I am threatened with headaches due to the sweetness of the popular essence; I can (unfortunately) only endure it in its highest quality. And to this day, I am amazed that I cannot smell a classic vanilla. It is a warm veil, never powdery, that wraps around me like a favorite cashmere blanket. This mist is by no means oppressive; I feel rather secure and a little oh là là. I owe this effect to the top notes of saffron and mandarin, which temper the heaviness of the vanilla. The heart notes of rose, suede, and jasmine only come through weakly for me; only the leather nuances are well perceptible, and that is known to be totally my thing. In the base notes, patchouli and amber remain, which I perceive distinctly until the next shower. But actually, and this is truly astonishing, Bois Satin is and remains a mystery to me. Some things you convince yourself of, and I don't know if the above quote is just stuck too deeply in my head, but the Japanese woman really makes me feel differently through her unique composition. This decadent transparency, which never ends in affectation, is so pleasant that it almost seems paradoxical to me. Bois Satin is an oriental fragrance, rather heavy, and such waters often take my breath away. Perhaps it is the Japanese straightforwardness that makes this opulent blend so wonderful, or perhaps it is fantasies that the black bottle evokes in me and for which I long. It is not a fragrance I want to wear every day. But it is a fragrance I want to smell like in intimate moments.

So far, I've refused to call a fragrance erotic. This one is: a subtle seducer for the self-aware, self-loving woman.
