A Feminine Orange Blossom
I agree with another reviewer (at another site) that Keiko Mecheri TARIFA smells very familiar. I, too, cannot put my finger on which perfume(s) this is reminding me of, especially in the opening. Perhaps something by The Pink Room? Or am I thinking of Linari ELEGANZA LUMINOSA? Not sure. In any case, this creation opens with a nice blend of smooth resinousness with spices and of course some greenish citrus.

I do not think that TARIFA is distinctive or appealing enough to warrant a full bottle for myself, but I'm sure that some people will fall head over heels for this sort of perfume. To my nose, TARIFA is very feminine and not at all like a typical citrus cologne. I'd describe the overall effect as similar to Vivienne Westwood perfumes. It's definitely more of a "boudoir"-type scent.

In fact, the only member of this limited edition series which I really found to be a citrus cologne was LES NUITS D'IZU. They are good perfumes though. It will all come down to personal taste, in the end, so these should all be tested before purchasing. This particular composition has a fairly dominant orange blossom scent in the drydown, which will be appealing to some but not to others...

Spring on the Atlantic
I have only been to Tarifa once in my life. In 2005, we took a short vacation in Algeciras and, as always, explored the entire area with our rental car. It was still early in the year, April or early May, if I remember correctly. The weather was sunny but mostly stormy, and there were hardly any tourists to be seen in this corner of Andalusia. On the beaches, especially on Sundays, only the locals with their folding chairs and sun umbrellas were present. We could enjoy the brief week we had even more without all the hustle and bustle.

I remember that our car was tiny and not exactly the newest model, but at least the radio had a CD slot. In a department store, we quickly found the right music for this short trip. The heavy metal band Tierra Santa particularly captivated my metal-loving Mr. Polly, which is why their music played on repeat in the car during our vacation days. Although we couldn't speak a word of Spanish back then, we managed to sing along to a few lines. The windows were rolled down, and we belted out: Nací siendo libre, Y hoy quiero mi libertad…..

If Tarifa by Keiko Mecheri had existed back then, it would surely have been a wonderful vacation companion for me. The enchanting orange blossoms and the refreshing bergamot immediately remind me of a holiday on the Atlantic coast. Amber notes in the base make it soft and add a touch of sweetness, but despite its floral abundance and a bit of warmth, this fragrance will never be too cloying for a spring vacation in Spain. Yes, it would have really suited me back then. Overall, it might be just a tad too floral for my taste, but I’m willing to make an exception for beautiful orange blossoms.

I wonder why I didn’t test Tarifa earlier. I still remember the discontinued Taormine from the 2010 summer collection, which left me rather cold. However, I let Tarifa slip by for some reason; I have no idea why.

One shouldn't expect major innovations here, but if someone is looking for a lovely spring or early summer fragrance that elegantly combines citrus notes and fine flowers while bringing a bit of sweetness into play, I think Tarifa fits wonderfully. The sillage is moderate, and it lasts quite well on me. In cooler temperatures, like the ones we have right now, it might even last a bit longer. Yes, I really like it and it invites me to perhaps repeat the vacation on the Atlantic coast one day.

Many thanks to MadameLegras for the opportunity to test this.

Refined Innocence
I recently had a client who was looking for a perfume for the (hopefully) most beautiful day of her life. She had specific ideas in mind. It should match her elegant yet rather simple white wedding dress, it shouldn't be worn by all the female guests, it should have a touch of innocence while still being refined, it should be girlish but not childish, and she didn't want to drag a scent trail behind her along with her veil. No, I won't reveal what she bought. But if we carried Keiko Mecheri's fragrances, then Tarifa would be the perfect perfume for a white wedding.

Tarifa is delicately floral yet warm, flattering and skin-like. A scent that, despite its delicacy, has a high recognition value. I don't know which spices contribute to this, but I believe that anyone who has worn Tarifa will not forget it. Even if it wasn't on the most important day of their life.

Let's go: just 14 km to North Africa!
Tarifa: this Spanish city is located at the narrowest point of the Strait of Gibraltar. Only 14 kilometers separate Europe from North Africa here. So it’s just a step from Spain to Morocco.
As in all of Andalusia, the rule of the Moors has left traces here; thus, an extraordinary cultural mélange has emerged, which is also reflected in the fragrance.

"Tarifa" is also a blend of East and West; this Eau de Parfum carries the special charm of North Africa within it; yet it stands firmly with both feet in Southern Europe.
Already in the first encounter with the delicate aroma of orange blossoms, I feel a hint of the slightly nutty-spicy argan oil.
The heartwarming effect of the waxy white orange blossoms is thus accompanied by a fine spiciness; warm and supple, a southern fragrance being develops here.
The addition of petitgrain gives this airy scent a bit of bitterness and thereby also stability; the delicate breath of the light orange blossoms does not fade away so quickly.
Bergamot adds the familiar freshness; it cannot and must not be missing from this fragrance creation.
Were it not for this hint of argan oil, "Tarifa" could be regarded as a well-composed fresh scent from the Mediterranean region, of which there are many.
But Africa greets us warmly, and through a handful of spices that sailors brought back from their long journeys during their heyday, a pleasant, slightly heavier scent body emerges.
A bit of clove, a small touch of nutmeg, and a hint of mystery reveal themselves as beautiful "nose caressers".
Thus, the way is paved for golden amber splendor; this lightly spicy-aromatic perfumed orange lemonade, to which "Tarifa" has reminded us until now, is refined.
A spirited, albeit refreshing Southern woman emerges and dances in the shimmer of the southern sunlight!

Here I encounter a summer scent that carries a short trip south within it.
I don’t need luggage or sun protection for this; a few spritzes of "Tarifa" are enough to embark on this journey.
It’s a short trip: this airy scent spirit already conjures up a few hours of sunshine.
However, it’s not worth planning a full day’s program. Unless:
Reapplying! Diligent reapplication helps!
So, my fragrance friends: I’m off and waving over to North Africa!
Sunny greetings from "Tarifa"!!!

Enchanting Skin Caresser
This is my first Keiko Mecheri fragrance test and I am thrilled.
What a tender, beautiful scent.

Slightly floral but still warmly welcomed with bergamot.
Why is there no iris in the pyramid? I can certainly perceive it.
In contrast, the orange blossoms do not reveal themselves to me. Spices and amber embrace.

Light-hearted, carefree, and untroubled, just as Turandot and Kankuro have wonderfully described, are also my associations when the fragrance surrounds me.
The longevity is average, but I would want to carry this scent in a spray bottle anyway.

Tarifa belongs to a limited edition. Dear Keiko Mecheri, that is not nice.

Petitgrain oil from the branches, along with bitter orange flower water + a splash of Neroli from good old Tosca;) all from the bitter orange - Cologne. Base is sticky sweet + I'm running around screaming :)

Neroli, softly woven into a bouquet. Delicately powdery and with distinctly feminine notes.

Very rounded and soft orange blossom, framed in delicate almond. Sunny, radiant, but not loud at all. More suitable for ladies.

The orange blossom shines here without pause. With petitgrain and bergamot, it becomes citrusy, sweet, warm. Not for me.
