A Lance for Johana
...I would like to break today.
For those who do not like rose scents, who are not particularly into gourmands, or who skip past incense in the fragrance pyramid - I can wholeheartedly recommend a test of Johana. This fragrance manages to combine the included ingredients into an exceedingly fragrant total work of art, where no single note stands out and disrupts the harmony.

I can only perceive the top note on the test strip, where the chrysanthemum is accompanied by a slightly medicinal galbanum, giving the opening a bitter freshness. However, on the skin, this effect is immediately caught up by the heart note, unfolding a bitter-sweet fragrance cocoon that gently and soothingly envelops the wearer for the next few hours, then fades into the base without any significant change.

Dominating is the cocoa, whose gourmand sweetness is consistently kept in check by a bitter floral note. Angua hit the nail on the head with her comment calling it "flower chocolate." Normally, rose jumps out at me in fragrances and makes all other notes fade away. Here, this is clearly not the case - the rose makes a subtle contribution and integrates beautifully. I unfortunately do not know how wisteria smells, nor can I pinpoint the iris as a standalone note. Patchouli does its job in the background, adding depth and longevity to the fragrance. I cannot detect the incense to save my life, and vanilla thankfully remains understated.

For me, Johana is clearly a warm comfort scent; its gentle aura caresses the soul. That sounds very poetic now, but I cannot express it any other way. The fragrance lasts a good 5 - 6 hours, but remains rather close to the skin, so you definitely cannot overapply it.

I discovered Johana during the last hot weeks and even wore it gladly in these high temperatures. This would certainly not be to everyone's taste, but the moderate sillage ensures that one does not become an olfactory nuisance.

Now I am looking forward to the upcoming cooler season, in which Johana will likely even enhance its radiance.

Test recommendation for all those who find pure gourmands simply too much of a good (sweet) thing.

Haná, the flower, the flower, the flowers...
Out of fear that I might be disappointed, I initially postponed testing "Johana." However: I was not disappointed. My expectations were exceeded. I tested it several times to be sure that it wasn't just a fleeting euphoria.
Haná, as some may know, is Japanese and means among other things: flower. Since there are no articles, numbers, or cases, it can mean: the flower, the flower's, the flowers, the flowers', the flowers etc. This is determined by the respective context. This name fits perfectly with this fragrance creation.
From the very first application and sniff, I was enchanted. With a certain bitterness, a hint of citrus, and as promised, the scent of chrysanthemums, "Johana" begins. Chrysanthemums and related plants have a strong pyrethrum scent that I really like. - Even though I know that pyrethrum is a natural insecticide.
Therefore, it seems logical to me that cocoa introduces itself first with vanilla, slightly neutralizing the bitterness but not overpowering it.
Then comes the scent of iris! Delicate yet distinct, powdery not earthy-dusty, as iris can sometimes present itself. A fresh light rose joins in. And only then is everything framed by the honey-sweet wisteria. Patchouli, sandalwood, and incense are perceptible but do not take center stage. They give the fragrance a certain cool detachment. Yes, almost a reserved objectivity. The vanilla is also dosed just enough that the base notes are tamed accordingly. Vanilla and cocoa even give the perfume a hint of gourmand. A very beautiful sandalwood refines "Johana" with fine creaminess.
"Johana" revealed itself to me as a balanced floral perfume. I had already added it to my wish list, but I would like to test it once more occasionally. Some things have changed in my ranking and wish list since I last tested "Johana." And the perfume "Johana" may have changed since the 2012 version.

The Most Beautiful Namesake!
This year for Christmas, I received this perfume as a gift from my sweetheart.
For me, it is a very romantic gesture.
Why?
Because this perfume bears my name! Even the spelling is the same!
For that reason alone, I find this scent particularly beautiful *laughs*

Now to the fragrance...

The opening is a bit more bitter. I don't know if it's the chrysanthemum or the galbanum... It's not scratchy or anything like that, but very finely crafted!
In the heart note, I perceive mostly iris and cocoa. However, the cocoa keeps the scent from being sweet, making it a bit more agreeable.
In the dry down, a bit of vanilla comes in, but still without being "sweet." It is a fine and authentic vanilla, freshly scraped from the pod. This is kept in check by the frankincense.

The longevity is truly superb! The sillage is rather subtle.

I find this perfume extremely beautiful!
It is very feminine without being overly agreeable. Different and quirky. Extremely elegant without being old-fashioned.
The beautiful bottle is also very elegant!

This perfume wonderfully reflects me. This is me! And I will definitely wear it for special occasions! For me, it was the best gift this year :)

The Dark Veil
This masterpiece! So interesting how it behaves differently on everyone. The development on my skin is astonishing. At first, I get a bouquet of chrysanthemums with a thread of dark rose and sprinkled with galbanum. This phase is the most challenging. It lasts about an hour and then fades as a powdery iris takes over, but not alone. Like smoke rising from a ritual temple, I perceive incense with sandalwood. The long dry-down is warm, despite the cold impression this flower may give - yes, the chrysanthemum returns embraced by the incense, the scent lingers for hours, light and fine like a dark veil that I never want to let fall from my body.

At first yuck, but then wow!
You have to try Johana and give her a chance; she is truly a gem after closer inspection, that is, just after a few minutes.
At first, incense, patchouli, and sandalwood dominate with a spicy scent, neither powdery nor floral, but soon the delicate and perfectly harmonized flowers come to the fore. A conglomerate of spring and summer rain, pleasant, soothing, and unlike any of my many perfumes. I can't keep my nose off the back of my hand; I even considered spraying it into my FFP2 mask to walk around the house with it :-)
Even my boyfriend, who initially wrinkled his nose, is very taken with it and finds it wonderful.
How sad and unforgivable to let such a fragrance go!

Powdery cocoa dusts over the blossoms, a bit fresh, a little diva. They get along well. Galbanum frames it delicately + characterfully.
