...I notice the new fragrance from Lacoste. I admit that I wanted to try it out solely because Alexa Chung is the new testimonial for Lacoste. And I confess, I love Alexa Chung. I even let myself be tempted to order l'ombre dans l'eau because that is (supposedly) her favorite fragrance. Well, it's certainly not mine.
Back to Lacoste. So this cute-looking bright pink bottle is smiling at me and saying: come on, dare to try it! I take the plunge and stand there smiling cutely in the midst of a grapefruit cloud. And I love grapefruit. Quickly to the checkout and off I go outside. As I leave, I think: this is going to be expensive if I have to reapply a thousand times a day just to bask in this wonderful grapefruit note.
But I was wrong. A little later, a delicate oriental base reveals itself, which at first seems completely out of place with the naive cheerful grapefruit. And yet it fits. For me, it's a pleasant surprise that I can also get along very well with the rest of the fragrance. And I admit, I love my new scent.
Postscript: Am I a teenager in the body of an old woman? Am I spiritually and mentally succumbing to the youth craze? Or why do I like this fragrance that supposedly doesn't match my biological age? The solution probably lies in the fact that I am regressing. When I was around twenty, I wore sophisticated scents like Halston, Shalimar, and Rive Gauche. Now, at the foot of menopause, I reach for teenage fragrances. Honi soit qui mal y pense.
Addendum (20 hours later): I just bought InStyle (even though I actually think it's silly) because there's something about Alexa Chung in it. And what do I read? Alexa says about Joy of Pink: "I love this one. It's young, fresh, and smells like lemon!" Ups...
