Like lying on the meadow!
Take a seat, Mr. Jeheimrat!
Well, I'm glad that you didn't forget the old coriander ...
How is your esteemed well-being? And how is the esteemed Mrs. Jemahlte doing? I'm especially pleased to hear that.

What would you like?
As always? Fashionable? Shaving, perhaps?
Of course, but right away …
Coffee …? Cream? Sugar?
May I offer you a piece of Trudchen's gooseberry cake …? Freshly baked!
Of course! Here you go, right away ...

So, I will wrap this cloth around you as always, so nothing spills on that nice shirt ...
I must compliment Mr. Jeheimrat once again. The way you wear a white shirt, it suits you excellently! And then the stylish vest … very dapper, indeed!
Quite pompous!

What do you prefer …?
Yes, after all the rain from the last time, it's nice that the clear sky is shining down again. I do love it warm and sunny.

What do you mean?
But yes, Mr. Jeheimrat, I completely agree with you. Summer is and remains the best season!
Ah yes, I prefer to spend it in my little garden, as you know, Mr. Jeheimrat …
Out in the countryside, surrounded by nature, there is nothing to compare for a sensitive person. The peace there, along with the sunshine and the chirping of the little birds in the trees! One can let the soul dangle on the Hollywood swing. I promise you that!

So, if Mr. Jeheimrat would kindly lean his noble head back … Shorten the sides?
Of course … we will do that right away ...

Where was I?
Oh yes - comfort and sunshine and summer.
You see, Mr. Jeheimrat, when one closes their eyes in the countryside, it is inevitable that one also takes a sniff. And in the fields, one is not next to a giant field, if you know what I mean …

What do you mean?
Yes, I completely agree with you. Grass and earth and flowers, that’s it! I’m glad that Mr. Jeheimrat’s heart is opening up. And now just imagine if you could take that as a fragrance home with you.

What do you prefer?
Yes, I am of course riding my little hobby horse again, if Mr. Jeheimrat allows.
Now I always say, coriander, I always say, a truly good fragrance for a dapper man must be something classic. I am very much in favor of things that some ignorant people today call old-fashioned.

What do you prefer?
Yes, those so-called modern waters are all far too sweet and too intrusive for me personally. It’s downright penetrating when some unrefined oaf creates a cloud behind them that tries to claw into the nose like liquid cotton candy with bronchial force. That is not a fragrance, that is slop and an imposition.
I always say to myself, coriander, I always say, anyone who pours such a brew on their shirt and bothers their surroundings has no manners.

No, no, you are completely right, Mr. Jeheimrat. Especially in the warm season, it must be something light, fine, and discreet.
And as luck would have it …
Well, you must have already thought of this, I’m sure. Mr. Jeheimrat already knows the old coriander. You see, I have a real rarity here. This is a water that will make you kneel! I give you my word on that, as true as I am called coriander!

What do you prefer ...?
But yes, of course …
Just a moment, let me take this tablecloth away.

So, where was I? Oh yes - kneeling and waters.
If I may just put a drop on your wrist …
Well?
Indeed, this is extraordinary. And indeed extraordinarily good.
Already the transparent citrus top note, as we connoisseurs call it - but yes, indeed!
Mandarin, very good! Mr. Jeheimrat has a nose for it …
Yes, there is also orange in it, and a lot of lemon too. As someone whispered to me who knows about these things, they also added petitgrain. A little joke, if Mr. Jeheimrat allows. I mean, of course, petitgrain. That grounds the whole thing.
Yes indeed, neroli is also included, of course, but not as clumsily as in other waters. They also stirred in some grapefruit, which remains discreetly in the background, as it should.
Everything is held together by galbanum and lavender, as I have heard from unusually well-informed circles. So I give you my word, I have never sniffed such a pleasantly fresh yet classic top note in any other brew.
The citrus remains largely as it is, and that pleases me the most. It becomes slightly earthy, but so discreet that the whole thing remains balanced. It is round, it is fresh, but not cold or harsh, it is summer as I have always imagined it. It really lifts your spirits! My cousin Alfred says that too, and he is right, he is.

What do you mean ...?
Yes, the oak moss is a good solid base, and the vetiver together with the rose frames everything without being intrusive. Then for the finish, just a bit of sage, and there you have a water that smells just like lying on the meadow in the July sky.
It is green, but not bitter, it is citrusy, but not sweet, and underneath there is a little hint of dry earth.
Pompous!

But yes, but yes, this is the special thing! I must assure you that this noble brew is extremely long-lasting. If you put three drops on your wrist, you will have it all day long ...

A drop on the backside - this is now a bittersweet drop, as I must explain to Mr. Jeheimrat.
This extraordinary brew is unfortunately no longer produced. That should be understood!
But I always say to myself, coriander, I always say, one should not throw in the towel right away.
There are still one or two little bottles here and there.
In the bathroom - I have now treated myself to a bottle. Wonderful!
Trudchen did make that little pout again and looked sternly, and then she said that a scruffy fellow like me wouldn’t need such a fine fragrance anymore, she said. But even if she is often right, that good Trudchen, I see it differently now.
Mr. Jeheimrat knows: in old age, foolishness is of no use …

You see, Mr. Jeheimrat, if you wear your stylish summer outfit on a Sunday stroll along the promenade, with a Panama hat and linen jacket, then there is nothing better than this little fragrance to go with it.
I give you my word on that, as true as I am called coriander!
Just sniff it ... it’s just like lying in the countryside under the July sky ...
Do you agree with me …?
You see, I thought so. You always remind me that Mr. Jeheimrat has such excellent taste ...

Do you like it? Another drop behind the ear …?
But no need to thank me! It is an honor for me!
Mr. Jeheimrat knows my motto: Everything for the esteemed clientele!

Most heartfelt thanks, Mr. Jeheimrat!
Do honor me again soon!
And best regards to Mrs. Jemahlte!

The scent of meadows, fields, and farms...
Lacoste has not really impressed me with high-quality fragrances so far - at least for me, the French label seemed interchangeable, mass-appealing - even boring!

And after Procter & Gamble - sounds like a law firm - took over the licensing, presenting a "branch" of a branch every few months, the break with me and LACOSTE seems certain.

Therefore, or at least for now, "Back in time" again and the test of an oldie.
“Scorpio” seemed gracious and gifted me another vintage sample of a long-forgotten scent - merci! ;)

It was probably discontinued around the turn of the millennium, because after my entry into the perfume world in 2001/2002, I never saw it, never noticed it.

I discovered it only today, thanks to the sample, and I must admit that it could definitely still pass in today's time!

Why “Land” was taken off the market is questionable.
Was it the sales figures, the notorious IFRA reformulation guidelines, or simply marketing strategic reasons that led to the scent being buried?!

I personally suspect that the brand simply wanted to shake off its dusty image and become a bit younger, even "trendy".

This can now be observed very well when Mr. "Wannabe" offspring presents the rolled-up collar of his polo shirt (in all rainbow colors).
So how does a perfume from that time smell, when Lacoste was frowned upon as a tennis brand?

“Land” starts citrusy, but no aquatic freshness is to be expected.
It rather feels like a bitter load of bergamot.

Quasi the starting signal when the first rays of sunshine break over the meadows and fields still covered with morning dew.

As it progresses, the scent becomes herbal, spicy - even ethereal.
It somehow reminds me of a cold remedy, but is extremely appealing!
This flair feels like a homage to cultivated fields and farms, where potatoes, carrots, or celery grow. But also to meadows, where lush herbs and juicy grasses thrive.

Parallels to Prada's celebrated “Infusion de Vétiver” come to mind!

During the drydown, the spiciness fades a bit, and a dry nuance emerges.
Thoughts of rotting wood or dry hay spread, yet this citrusy, green undertone remains.

In the end, “Land” becomes surprisingly elegant and warm.
Thanks to tobacco components, it reminds me of Cartier's “Santos” or Hugo Boss “Sport” from 1987.

Tobacco, musk, and amber convey the flair of warmed earth, of aromatic moor or peat landscapes.

All these natural attributes were probably also intended for the bottle design... I don't know, however, if the glass architecture represents an opulent field bottle or a storm lighter?
At least the stylistic impressions of a Land Rover tire appear rural and rustic.

Rural also the print ads - two are known to me.
One shows a reddish-colored agricultural landscape from above, the other a typically Scottish-looking idyll with a wild brook and a male model in a green textured blazer and casually thrown-over sweater.

A scent for foresters and hunters? At least practical for everyday use and applicable at any time!
The longevity is also above average.

Despite its all-round character - for summer I might recommend something fresher…

PS: Dear Parfumo team - please note the change - “Land” is no longer produced and it has also increased in price on eBay!

Childhood Memories of Carefree Days
When I was a child, I spent many summers at my grandmother's place in the countryside (Mosel). She lived on the edge of the village and had a small farm. If you went up a bank behind the farm, you would come across a huge meadow, green as far as the eye could see. Crossing the road led to a dusty, stony field path. Miles of raw landscape, nothing but fields, wild meadows, and trees. Eventually, the vineyards appeared. I often went for walks there. Today, the path is long since paved.

This is what LAND smells like! Freshly mown fields, meadows full of flowers, weeds and shrubs, dusty paths, sun-dried hay. Forget about citrus. In my opinion, you can only wear it in summer. The hotter, the better. I have loved this scent since its release. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford it back then. I was still almost a child. And when I could, it was already gone. Sadly, it never really had a chance. Or fortunately? Probably, they would have reformulated it to death, just like they did with its big brother.

It is an absolute insider tip. That's why you can occasionally find it at reasonable prices on eBay.
ADDENDUM: I bought two still sealed miniatures on eBay. Yes. At first, it smells citrusy. And how. I believe you can only smell that in fragrances that never left the box. A dream.

Nice when the fragrance notes are described so sparingly...
because then you can approach a test without bias and are not influenced by preferences ("Oh yes, honey") or aversions ("Yuck, incense and iris").

A beautiful scent from a time when Lacoste still knew how to create. "Land" manages to smell both soft and masculine at the same time. Perfectly balanced in the sum of its woody, spicy, and citrus elements, without coming across as boring or arbitrary and interchangeable.

I also detect something malty/resinous here, which gives the fragrance a (very subtle) sweetness.

"Land" is unfortunately no longer contemporary due to its naturalness. That’s exactly why I like it so much, and I will probably follow up with a full bottle based on the miniature I tested (@Scorpio: Unfortunately, I don't see the "humane prices" on the bay at the moment, unless EUR 100/100 ml would be "humane" for you).

I dare to make the following claim: If you like "Ténéré" (which I am currently wearing on the other arm), you will also like "Land" (even though the two fragrances only resemble each other very distantly. I mean in terms of craftsmanship). Something for traditionalists and lovers of the old school. Something for me.

Balanced, Green-Woody Spice Collection
Having had the chance to experience one of the rare old and unfortunately hard-to-find original Lacoste fragrances thanks to Cappellusman, I find myself in a close contest between this 25-year-old "Land" and the original version of "Lacoste Original" (the reformulated new version is nice but rather bland), regarding who sits on the throne of the crocodile brand.

"Land" proves to be a remarkably well-balanced constructed spice scent from the very beginning, residing somewhere between rosemary, thyme, and clove, which is framed by a fine woody core and shifts everything slightly towards fresher realms with a little touch of lemony brightness.

While the "Original" is noticeably greener, more vibrant, and mossy, "Land" presents itself as more composed and mature, which is likely due to the aforementioned foundation of wood aromas that are valuable and finely integrated yet still play a leading role, something that often doesn't come together quite right with wood.

Longevity and sillage are certainly somewhat improvable, but otherwise, it's probably a draw between the two oldies.

One of the most beautiful, balanced citrus scents I've ever encountered. Long-lasting, subtle, classic. Times gone by... what a pity.

Spicy citrus, a bit ethereal. Sweet amber in the dry down. Not your typical vintage "grandpa" scent. This one has something special!

Green-spicy, dry-citrusy - so far so good. But the nasty Maggi note is bothersome and no, it doesn't smell spoiled, just like soup herbs.

They did it after all: after Lacoste by Patou and Lacoste Original, the last great fragrance from the tennis brand. Tremblingly bright and warmly spicy.
