The most elegant Chypre perfume there is
One day when I went to Louis Vuitton,
I had a goal to buy Imagination , but the bottle with this magnificent yellow liquid caught my eye and like a magnet I approached it and then it happened, I fell in love.
As you can imagine, I bought Rhapsody and forgot about Imagination (which I bought later).

I can say that it is a caressing, elegant Chypre perfume, suitable for most seasons.

His performance is spectacular.

The first time I wore it, I entered a cake shop and someone passed by me and simply stopped and asked me what this amazing smell was?

Since then, two more of my friends have bought this perfume.

How much do I love it? 10/10.

Spring
Rhapsody is a fragrance that I really like: delicate floral notes, refreshed by yerba mate and deepened by woods.
I feel as if I could perceive the spring scent of a garden from a distance, as I walk enjoying the first warmth of the sun.
Very elegant, but given the high price I would have expected something more overwhelming.

The best Chypre Creamy perfume I've ever smelled
I think this is the best Louis Vuitton! To understand how special it is you have to wear it! It is a perfume that garners compliments! They will never stop asking what you are wearing. And its longevity is amazing! So I recommend that you pay attention to it because it is a bit inconspicuous in the landscape and never give up on it pretty quickly.

Kitchen sink floral chypre
I have smelled almost all of the LV Parfums fragrances, and while uniformly pleasant, serious perfume wearers should remember that certain brands, like LV, design and market their perfume as ancillary products to their leatherwear, and are really no more than a revenue diversification channel in section C of the business plan.  And so while Rhapsody is the only perfume in the LV Parfums range I’ve smelled that feels like it makes an effort to rise above a merely pleasant smell, remember that the €510 you're slapping down on the counter for this is fuelling LV's profit margins rather than a rare chunk of white ambergris or wild 1970s Cambodi oud, or the fees of a master perfumer who emerges from his cave once a year on the spring equinox to create one single, special perfume.

I forgot to mention that Rhapsody is part of LV Parfums’ ‘exclusive’ sub-range and costs almost twice as much as the perfumes such as Ombre Nomade, Afternoon Swim, Pacific Chill, etc.  Its shiny silver sculpture-as-bottle-cap broadcasts even more loudly, baboon’s-arse-like, a message of wealth and status to the other, smaller monkeys in the room.

It does smell great, though.  It is a big, chaotic rush of bitter, perfumey flowers – soapy muguet, a whole kitchen sink’s worth of small white flowers, a sunntanned banana ylang, a touch of hyacinth maybe with its oily greenness, with a dry patchouli and vetiver base for that essential grounding element.  It comes off a little Diaghilev-lite, a modern mall wall of sound up front and an almost creamy-faecal-scalpy earthiness in the base – costus or civet perhaps - to mimic the slightly raw, grass-fed lactic quality of oakmoss.

Intense, serious, and quite piercing, Rhapsody presents a cacophony of notes that makes you frown rather than smile – there is no whimsy here.  But for all you’re forced to study it, turn it over in your head, trying to find where each thread ends and begins, you also get a sense that it is more crowded and ornate than it is deep.  This could have been a wild ride but in the end, it is chaste, a little too self-serious, and both matronly and sleazy, like Karla Homolka in a high-necked blouse in court.  And if that’s the effect I’m chasing, then I could get there with a spritz of other green floral chypres I am equally unenamoured of and yet inexplicably own, like Eau de Soir or Odalisque.

Chypre fragrance of the extra class
Rhapsody is one of the five new LV fragrances whose bottle was designed by Frank Gehry. I was able to test all today here is my third review to the best fragrance of the series for me next to Stellar Times.

I have to admit that I'm not a big chypre fan because they often smell very "stale" to my sensibilities. Therefore, my expectations for Rhapsody was not particularly high, but the fragrance has taught me better. Rhapsody is an olfactory masterpiece and takes away even my reservations about chypre. The opening is chypre-typical with a floral rose, jasmine and in this case also ylang-ylang and the woody oakmoss and patchouli and also seems a bit more feminine than unisex at first whiff. But then something fanstastic happens, because after about 20 minutes vetiver and especially mate push forward and give with their earthy-tart-sweet bitterness a good contrast to the yet initially sultry floral elements of the top note. As it progresses, the chypre loses some of its power but maintains its profile, with the floral components dominating a bit more than the woody notes. I was "perfume shopping" all afternoon, but I had to keep smelling my wrist to accompany the further course of Rhapsody, despite my now incipient nasal fatigue.

Conclusion:

Bottle - LV's bottles are some of the most beautiful in the industry for me, but with the Gehry range they have topped themselves for my liking. The head of the bottle, which resembles a transparent veil (according to the staff, it's all handmade) and the boutique where they have built a huge veil over the collection that resembles the head of the perfumes is second to none.

Fragrance: the manufacturer calls the fragrance "the epitome of elegance". And I can agree with that! It is a wonderful, profound fragrance that smells very "adult" and carries an incredibly graceful aura. At the same time, it never seems anachronistic or out of time. For me, one of the most beautiful reinterpretations of Chypre fragrances and is for me of all the new fragrances next to Stellar Times most worth the very crisp price.

Elegant, clean and chic chypre fragrance with a very modern air about it. This is a great gateway to the chypre genre.

Definitely a MODERN chypre than a vintage one. Surprisingly creamy + sweet. Heady florals sans powder / dustiness. Pretty and pleasant.

For me too heavy floral, rather old school. Rose and ylang all the way trough, slight green dusty notes in the back
