Hidden gem from Louis Vuitton

Walking through San Diego, sipping a cocktail in Santa Monica, or watching the sunset in Ibiza—that's California Dream by Louis Vuitton. A true hidden gem, often overlooked in the fragrance community and rarely mentioned by reviewers.

Fresh, with excellent sillage and longevity, it shares a similar vibe with Another 13 by Le Labo or a classic Kenzo. Musky with a hint of fruit, though not exactly fruity—the ambrette takes center stage. It's unisex and perfect for spring, summer and early fall.

If you’re not into fresh, musky, and clean scents, this one isn’t for you.

Finally, despite its beachy essence, it works just as well in the office or business meetings, projecting transparency and good intentions.

Juicy mandarin orange

California Dream opens up with its juicy mandarin orange note on full display. There is also a bit of an orange peel smell in there too. It doesn’t have the sharp punch that the citrus of Sun Song had and is quite mellow and naturalistic. Retaining that clean sensibility and brightness.

California Dream is a citrus scent that is going to give you a zesty aroma with the mandarin. It’s not my favorite type of orange, but it works well enough in this Louis Vuitton offering, and actually is one of the better examples that I’ve come across.

There may be some other unlisted fruit or other citrus notes lightly in the mix too. Mostly, it’s that mandarin.

It’s smoother later on and rounded out by the addition of the musk note. Honestly, I don’t get much benzoin standing out in the mix in California Dream, until the end. The musk is pretty pronounced for much of it, though, it never is overwhelming.

Opening act of zesty fresh mandarin. Then, mandarin sitting on top of musk with some ambrette coming into play.

To me, it’s a citrus with musk and ambrette during most of the wear. Less juicy as it dries down and and just a finish of benzoin after a few hours. Musk with a slight powdery sweetness in the latter stage.

The city of angels

A fragrance that is like cruising through the streets of Los Angeles in an old Ferrari convertible.... Exclusive, light, refreshing and always with a touch of self-dramatization somewhere between arrogance and depression.

Initially strikes one only an extremely authentic but boring Manderinen note.... So boring that I already very verduzt dreinschaute and thought only "And the should cost as much as the other LV fragrances?".

But suddenly... Woah, the top note went on and me Schoß me a not quite ripe Manderine mixed with a bucket full of different flowers against.... The sillage spread immediately in the room and the slightly biting sour but at the same time bitter soft smell conquered the whole room. On the one hand so incredibly light and yet Hollywoodreif dramatic it shows itself.

And although he actually seems so quiet and weak to myself, my fellow confirmed this immediately. Rarely been addressed so quickly so often in the house on my fragrance.

My mother even compared it to an orange peel pickled in Molecule 01.... The definitely seems to have it more in itself than I want to perceive so.

Durability-wise he held according to feedback strongly from morning to late afternoon and on my skin I still take last feel. So somewhere around the 6-7 hours the whole thing will probably move.

The sillage is more blatant than you would expect with a for itself so lauen Lüftchen, although never really dominant. Rather a neat solid.

Since I have only one bottling, I can say little about the bottle. The pictures of the sender to this were great and the others of the brand are anyway also all Qualitätsmäßig the price aufjedenfall worthy.

Now only the question is still in the room, when one may leave because finally his own fingerprints ...

For fans of authentic and little sweet citrus definitely recommendable, even if it unfortunately lacks something unique position.

The California Dream in a bottle?

Today there is another Louis Vuitton comment from me. But I can say in advance that I like California Dream very much. The bottle is also a minimalist masterpiece, this gradient is simply beautiful, but now to the fragrance itself. California Dream starts fresh with a full load of mandarin orange, and after a short time, floral and slightly fluffy notes are added, but I have to say that these floral and fluffy notes shift the fragrance a bit towards the feminine, and I can imagine the scent being a bit more feminine. I still think that a man can wear California Dream, but while testing it, my girlfriend liked California Dream and likes it very much. So I ordered a bottle for my girlfriend for christmas, but sometimes I will borrow the scent from her :)

Well made but unfortunately far too expensive

For me, the California Dream is a really well-made fragrance. But when I look at the performance in relation to the price of the bottle, I'm a little surprised. Be that as it may, the scent lasts a solid 6 to 8 hours on my skin with a fairly restrained sillage.

As this is a fairly straightforward and less complex fragrance, I can't really go into any top, heart or base notes here. The scent is refreshing, citrusy, fruity, sweetish, greenish, somewhat synthetic and maritime. I sniff out aromas of mandarin peel, violet leaves, lemon zest, grapefruit, ambroxan, musk, benzoin, fig leaves and amber.

It's a shame that the California Dream doesn't have more "oomph". Nevertheless, I would like to thank Sören for the manufacturer's sample.
