Strangely beautiful

This is a very strange scent. But beautifully strange. For me personally, love at first sniff, but I definitely do not recommend buying it blindly! To me personally, it smells like juicy tomatoes and that "dark loose clay", and green leaves. A truly very nostalgic scent and reminds me of my childhood at my grandmother's cottage. Ideal for spring/summer. The longevity is average, slightly more average. For me, definitely one of the best and most interesting scents from MM.

Cheap and gimmicky execution of a lovely idea

I was really looking forward to trying this one based on a myriad of scathing reviews all over the internet, but the reality ended up being very... reasonable? Boring even. On my body the upper notes opened as green tomato and unripe mandarin (which, alas, was more prominent). My partner's body runs warmer, so he got lucky with ripe tomato flavor. You know that smell when you pluck a juicy red tomato from the plant? Mmhm... Delightful.

But in about 30 minutes geranium appeared, slowly taking over the whole composition and blending it into a sweet flowery smoothie. By the end of the first hour most of the tomato was gone, replaced by a boring and flat geranium centerpiece. At least it ended relatively quickly. ~2 hours in patchouli was pretty much the only thing left, and took a few more hours to fully disappear from my skin.

So, eh? Tomato part was fun but too short-lived, and the rest of the experience was boring and one-dimensional at best. The idea of a perfume that captures "a moment in time" or "an experience" rather than "a type of person" is very dear to my heart, so maybe that's why I'm too critical, but this felt like a cheap gimmick rather than a thought through experience.

Hit or miss

I personally love this fragrance. On me, it opens up with a burst of dirt and a tomato leaf rubbed freshly between your fingers. Then it dries down into a subtly sweet smell that close to the skin smells like tangerines. HOWEVER this seems to be very body chemistry dependent because I let a family member try it and on them it smelled like mildew pickles. Definitely give this one a try before committing to a full bottle!

Realistic citrus and tomato leaf

The opening is shared equally by the tomato leaves and the sweet mandarin. It's green and fresh, almost juicy.
As it dries, the patchouli comes through, bringing in the earthiness. It feels richer then, and something about it reminds me of plant sap.
It lasted on the skin for about 16 hours, by the end the herbal aspect was gone and it became a soft mandarin scent, reminiscent of an orange gelato.
Overall, From the Garden is a light scent but with character, unisex leaning feminine. It's beautiful, I've been looking for a natural/realistic citrus that doesn't disappear in an hour and this is it! The added bitterness of the leaves just makes it even better to me.

Summer in the garden

I find most of the Replica offerings underwhelming, reminiscent of an overpriced B&BW spray or a Yankee candle (which is to say, simplistic and yet non-specific). This is the big exception. It's still quite a straightforward scent and I'm sure pales in comparison to similar designer scents, but it's definitely one of the most interesting and unique fragrances I've found at this price point. It smells mostly like tomato leaves, sticky green and slightly sharp. So if that's not your jam, then this isn't for you. There's a quiet floral base, in the same way that all gardens have that slightly floral background note. I don't get any "dirt" (earthy, dank) at all, maybe a whisper of soil (fresh, wet) but that could very well be an associative note and not something contained within the perfume itself. This is a fabulous summer scent for me, there's definitely a sense memory experience that reminds me of working in the garden — from burying tomato stems in May to lunches of bruschetta and then the final hopeful harvest in September, collecting those exquisite slow ripeners for the most gorgeous tomato sauce to send off the season, wondering how you'll last the winter without fresh garden tomatoes. So yeah, it's definitely for tomato lovers, especially those who relish getting soil under their nails in pursuit of that love.
