Take her swimming on the first date...

I just got catfished like never before with this fragrance. I loved the initial notes, it smelled like green grapes and red wine, and I thought this would be a great fragrance for summer since it was so fresh and sweet. I swear it lasted just long enough for me to buy a (very expensive) bottle and then soured, fading into a quite generic department store fragrance with that vague musky mossy smell. Not bad necessarily but a scent you can find literally anywhere for probably 1/5 of the cost. I won't even be bothering with this one, I'm coming back to make a return tomorrow! (I would do it now but, I'm way too socially awkward to make a return 20 minutes later to the same clerk I bought it from.)

My nose does not match to the description

This scent opens with overpowering grape candy, which I found unpleasant and too sweet. The mid dry down is much improved as this grape gives way to herby and dried green notes. The patchouli is there, but in combination with a more bitter moss and vetiver, it doesn't dominate. Musk becomes more apparent in the final dry down with an herbal accent. Despite a nice finish, this is not for me.

A nice surprise

There is something generic and unoriginal about On A Date, but at the same time, it has my attention. It is a champagne floral that isn't too alcoholic or fizzy from the champagne, but has a sensual sweetness to it. I am thinking of Remarkable People when smelling it, not because they are similar, but because they both have that champagne note, but as far as I remember, I prefer the way it is done in On A Date. Bad timing, but I actually just sold my bottle of Remarkable People. After a year in my collection, I didn't really reach for it exactly for that reason - something about the champagne note and the aromatic notes in Remarkable People pulled too masculine on me.

After dry down, On A Date reveals an absolutely divine champagne note. It is flirty, it is girlie, it is giving me my full feminine potential. Amongst all my deep, unisex, spicy fragrances, I love to indulge in something very feminine when the mood strikes me. For those days, I usually reach for Mon Evidence or Hibiscus Mahajad. On that note, On A Date is a fragrance that is similar to Mon Evidence, Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia Lmt. Edition (2017) and just a tad like Hibiscus Mahajad. In short, they are all giving me pink vibes, but not the bubblegum kind, but that sensual quality chilled rosé kind.

I am honestly really enjoying this, I didn't think that I would enjoy it this much, but I do! Even though I have similar fragrances, this really stands on it's own and it is perfect for spring and the upcoming summer days.

But I haven't said much about the fragrance yet, have I? Alright, On A Date is bubbly from the champagne and has a sweetness to it as if the tall glass of champagne has some slices of ripe strawberry in it. The warmth of the sunny summer day has heated the champagne slightly and gives it a rich skin-like depth without being like that of musk, vanilla or any other note that might come to mind.

I have been very consumed with life lately and I had to put my fragrance blog aside, so I haven't seen all the hype or reviews of this fragrance in real time. So when I read the reviews, I was shocked. They are very polarising, but honestly, with this one I'm just staying in my own lane and loving the fragrance. As soon as I see a discount, I'm snatching her for my collection!

Blackcurrant and rose

I mostly get blackcurrant and rose. Very syrupy and bright in the beginning, and dries down to a slightly powdery green combination of oakmoss and musk, with just a hint of that fruity floral opening left behind. It's inoffensive and I wouldn't mind sitting next to someone who smelled like this, but it's not to my personal taste. I'm learning that I don't particularly enjoy berry scents on myself. Possibly a good choice if you love blackcurrant and rose, but not a safe blind buy, judging by the reviews I've seen.

Delicious, until its just gone

On a date by Maison Margiela is a beautiful scent, period. The red wine opening is to die for and I couldnt stop smelling it. That was until I couldnt smell it anymore. I thought I had gone noseblind to it, so I let it be and went along with my day. I was expecting to have wasps of scent from time to time from it, but nothing came, so I dug my nose in my arm again and all that was there was a faint woody aroma. Once the opening dries down, there is nothing to be found here sadly.

I kept the fragrance for a good while, as I was loving smelling the opening in my fragrance cupboards from time to time, but realized I was never actually wearing it due to the awful longevity. As a curiosity I would highly recommend sampling it in a store or through a decant, but I do not believe it is worth a full bottle.
