Decent spicy saffron-led entry but not a standout
Sampling Mancera Eternal Wood, a 2024 release, a mixed resinous, woody, and semi-spicy blend, a bit generic but comfortingly familiar, something I’ve smelled a bit in other perfumes over the past decade. Oud, saffron, and palo santo play against toffee, tonka, and amber, a bit of a woody/savory dominance tempered by resinous and semi-sweet aspects. The saffron is the biggest standout, providing a good bit of the spice, depth, and intrigue. Overall, I like it and find it easy enough to wear, while still being interesting, but it’s nothing terribly new or head-turning. Still, it’s a decent release from this house (along with sibling company Montale) of many releases, just not a standout offering in recent years.

It performs very well, though, and is priced at $190 for 120ml, higher than what I believed to be the usual $180, perhaps indicative of a price increase across the board that is not yet reflected in each fragrance in the catalogue. Retail points of sale include department stores as well as boutiques in the US like Olfactif, from which I bought my sample, though some grey market sites appear to offer it at this time already.

A really solid, sweet, smoky wood fragrance.
Personal: 7.5/10 – Dark, rich, resinous and oud forward fragrance. Very dark and dry. I don't tend to like fragrances woody and dry, but I appreciate just how dark it is. Almost intimidating.
Mass appeal: 6/10 – Oud, amber, and smoke can be divisive. Some will find it powerful and classy, others harsh or overwhelming. I happen to land between the two.
Performance: 8.5/10 – As with most Mancera offerings, this projects and lasts all day. Strong performance is guaranteed.
Value: 8/10 – Mancera pricing is fair given the strength and quality. Even if you don’t love the DNA, you can’t deny it’s good bang for your buck.
Uniqueness: 7.5/10 – Dark, resinous oud scents are plentiful, but this one has a distinctive smoky-leathery quality that sets it slightly apart.

SCORE: 75/100

Full bottle buy? NO, it’s too heavy and smoky for my personal style.
Blind buy? NO, oud and leather are far too polarizing to risk without sampling.
Recommend? YES, for fans of smoky oud-amber fragrances at good prices.
Date night? NO, it’s too heavy, smoky, and bold to feel romantic. More mysterious than sexy.
Office safe? NO, far too strong and polarizing for professional wear.

Pros: Rich resinous depth, strong performance, bold and memorable presence.
Cons: Leans medicinal and harsh, too smoky and heavy for daily use. Not very versatile.

Eternal Wood is Mancera doing what they do best. They take a heavy, dark DNA, make it a performance beast, put a very reasonable price tag on it, and let the fragrance do the talking for them. I really think this is a great bottle at a great price, if you like the darker, less sweet, more smoky and leathery wood fragrances. This isn't necessarily oud forward, but it is darkness forward, and I like that. It's got a papery, soft, sweet backbone behind it, but it's still a somewhat aggressive dark fragrance that is distinctly NOT versatile. But, in below freezing winter weather, this would morph into something positively warm, inviting and cozy. And for less than $25/oz on discounters, that's a whole lot of bang for the buck.

One of the best darker wood fragrances that doesn't rely on oud for its strong presence. A great value if you love it, but you shouldn't blind buy this one.

Review #136 in my fragrance journey – this fragrance I own as a decant

Successful Oud for Greatness Alternative
Mancera is once again releasing some exciting fragrances this year. This brand seems to be responding to current trends, which is a smart move. A cherry scent has also recently been released, incorporating the appealing notes of other bestsellers. What I like is that this brand already brings its own charm to the table. The clear inspiration here is "Oud for Greatness (Eau de Parfum) | Initio," of which there are now several alternatives on the market. I was eager to test this one because of its fantastic pyramid, especially with all those wonderful woods and a bit of sweetness. Sounds great for fall/winter. The price point for this brand is also absolutely reasonable. I ordered a small sample for testing, and that will probably be it for me. Even though I can absolutely recommend this fragrance, the original OfG is enough for me, and this one leans too much in that direction. Those looking for a slightly rounder, more appealing version will find it here.

The bottle comes, as always, in a simple yet very pretty box. Inside is a pouch where the bottle is stored. The bottles are uniform and have a great magnetic cap. Here you get a fragrance with a beautiful autumnal brown color. It already puts you in a good mood just seeing this scent.
This fragrance, as mentioned, leans heavily towards Oud for Greatness. Immediately upon spraying, this scent comes to mind. A dark note subtly reminds one of Sauvage Elixir, but overall it is very much in the direction of the Initios.
Eternal Wood may not be the best choice for a name. While there are some woody notes in this fragrance, primarily it is for me a saffron scent with all kinds of sweetness, especially in the base. The opening has a strange note that settles after about 5 minutes. Not so great, but then the saffron note comes through like in OfG. An oriental, non-dominant oud note is also present. Additionally, there is a sweet-warm davana note that completes the opening. The wood becomes more prominent after about an hour with dark guaiac wood and palo santo, along with a soft cashmere wood note. I like it a lot, and it feels very autumnal and cozy. The longer the fragrance is on the skin, the sweeter it becomes. Caramel & tonka provide a cozy autumn-winter sweetness. A very comfortable sweetness that fits perfectly with this saffron-wood combo. Moreover, this is a very appealing interpretation of the Initio's. The base is very soft.
Performance is consistently good for this brand and this DNA. Sillage is very strong, and longevity is 12+ hours. Everything is top-notch, making it a perfect outdoor and going-out scent for the colder months. It can also be worn in everyday life, but not too many sprays. This fragrance is unisex. Women must, of course, like this saffron-OfG DNA to wear this scent. This fragrance is likely to appeal more to men.

Overall, a very, very strong release. With this extra dose of sweetness, it really leans towards the Christmas season. Not a must-have if you already own a fragrance in this direction.

Are you related or connected to the OFG?
Definitely yes! The affiliation cannot be denied. However, there are still differences, which is why I find it difficult to label it as a clone, as it also has a unique characteristic.

I can definitely understand the Sauvage Elixir aspect; it creates a note of Ambroxan / Anise through a combination with saffron and something else, which gives certain vibes. But from campfire... Nothing...

In my opinion, the design of Eternal Wood compared to the OFG is also better because it does not contain musk & lavender, which makes the scent progression more distinctive and a bit more pronounced, and despite the caramel, it conveys a cool rather than a warm impression.

Overall, it swims in the same pool; however, the nuances are ultimately what differentiate the two from each other.

Is the cow being milked further here? That’s something everyone has to decide for themselves...

You should definitely test it longer and not make direct forced comparisons. The longer you smell it, the greater the differences become.

At first, it might scare some away
Eternal Wood can be quite demanding at the beginning.
The scent comes across as rather dark, smoky, woody, and spicy.
Oud combined with something slightly "herbaceous," if you can call it that, saffron, and even a hint of incense.

After about half an hour, the scent loosens up a bit on my skin, and the smoky cloud recedes somewhat.
The woody impression also becomes more pleasant, but a bit of darkness remains.

The longer the scent sits on the skin, the more I suddenly felt like I was detecting a kind of Dior Sauvage Elixir or even my Lattafa Asad in a certain way here.
I didn't want to believe it, but it was and is definitely so.
After I had this impression, I had to check if I was the only one with this feeling.
I didn't see any of these scents listed as similar, but in the reviews, I actually read a comment in that direction. So I'm not alone with this impression.

For me, Eternal Wood really becomes a brother to Dior Sauvage Elixir. It has roughly the same vibes, just a bit more subdued. I liked the Dior and also the Lattafa Asad very much at first, but after wearing them multiple times, it somehow became too much for me. I find Eternal Oud to be a bit gentler and makes it nicer.
However, since we have a completely different opening here, it is definitely a justifiably independent scent.

In terms of performance, this scent doesn't perform as well for me as rated here so far.
Nevertheless, this scent is by no means hiding.

I would definitely categorize this scent more as a men's fragrance.
I find it very hard to imagine it on a woman.

The opening smells like oud wood with a light gourmand twist of speculoos or chocolate/caramel and it dries down to Oud for greatness.

Heavy and clogging. There’s something in here that’s working on my nerves. Sauvage Elixir has a much better balance.

Woody-ambery journey with toffee, spices & soft oud. Great projection and value, masculine-leaning, rich winter choice.

Nuclear blast of heavy oud and something synthetic is later replaced by more bearable smoother woody tone with some saffrony sharpness

A very smooth, dark, smoky oud fragrance that is priced very fairly for what it is. It isn't for everyone, but it's dark and complex.

I have nothing against the brand, but this one is just awful. Overcooked Ambroxan with a saffron overload and overly sweet aftertaste.

Seems extremely inspired by Oud For Greatness. Here it's more mass-appealing, sweeter, and has the usual Mancera performance. Good!

Starts with XXL bonfire vibes, smoky-spicy, drydown has Sauvage Elixir vibes, later wonderfully rounded, a bit sweeter, H/S brutally strong, perfect for cold days.

At first very smoky, but after a short time the scent becomes quite woody with a slight sweetness.
