Dark green fig with leather, spices, resins - interesting grouping and deep, fascinating result
Sampling Mancera Fig Extasy, a 2021 release, fittingly fig-forward but with a very interesting multifaceted blend that is parts green, smoky, resinous, sweet, and spicy, featuring a robust note blend with standouts of fig milk, green fig, ginger, leather, black pepper, benzoin, vanilla and styrax. It’s an impressive confluence of varied accord, a lot to take in, and I feel that it is largely a successful experience and I’m delighted to smell it. It’s quite dense and the performance is strong, an interesting balance between a note that I generally experience as fresh, fig, and some of the darker elements that accompany it, the result being something hearty, experimental, yet also cozy.

I think this is an easy one to recommend trying, on the basis of its uniqueness, performance, and affordability, as I could see the upside being high for many, though it’s artistic enough that I could imagine it being divisive, overall. I give it high marks for what I regard as a bold attempt and strong result.

As with most of the brand, it’s EDP concentration with retail pricing of $200 for 120ml, sold in the US via the house website and boutiques like Olfactif (where I bought my sample) and Krystla Fragrance, among others, though it’s also fairly widely available via discounters, which is generally the case with Mancera and Montale fragrances.

A Perfect Masc Fig
It's actually weird to me just how underrated this scent is! But there are two factors which would help you consider if you'd love this scent as much as I do: 1) you love fig in all of its versatility and 2) you love a nice woody, spicy and leathery fragrance
You see, there are a lot of fresh figs, fruity figs, simply green ones, but this one is a perfeccttt masculine fig (not a manly fig per se, afab and loving the hell out of my decant). What I get the most from it are black pepper, leather, cedar, and a lottt of juicy green fig leaves. A greenish fig fruit skin perhaps. It's texture, like a green and aromatic leather. It reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly, but maybe this is what makes it so amazing and special to me? It ties to some memories, to something good, and I think emotional connection is something important to have that chemistry with a perfume.
Absolutely amazing for a nice summer evening, can surely see myself wearing it through spring and perhaps autumn too! I feel so handsome wearing it, it's moody and a little bit dark but in its own way! Leafy texture, waiting in a tree shade, the sun has set and the seaside town is living its nighttime life...You know it's good when you get some vivid associations and memories from a fragrance!

The Well-Known Fig
As an absolute fan of fig in perfumes, I thought I would sample this fragrance to see if I liked it. My expectations were therefore very high, and I was probably also somewhat influenced by other fig scents I have smelled.

Scent

After the first spray, it became clear to me that I had smelled something similar to this perfume before. Gris Charnel immediately came to mind. However, the scent is more robust than Gris Charnel. To me, the fragrance does not smell as rounded as Gris Charnel. One could also say that it does not smell as creamy as Gris Charnel. The scent has a greener note compared to Gris Charnel, which comes across very dominantly on my skin. However, as the fragrance develops, it does become a bit creamier.
I can hardly perceive the leather. It is probably too overshadowed by the green note for me.

Sillage

The scent is rather subtle and stays close to the skin. However, with movement, one can always slightly perceive the smell. Therefore, I would say that the fragrance is definitely something for those who do not want to be too intrusive in the situation where they are wearing the perfume.

Fig Without Ecstasy
In search of the most beautiful fig in the land, I tested this new fragrance from Mancera today. Thanks to the lovely member GökNes, the scent arrived at my place so quickly :)

At first, I like the first impression because fig bursts out of the spray head in abundance. No coconut association, no embellishments, no alcohol - just pure fig. After a few minutes of waiting, during which this fig note is allowed to unfold, I notice that something increasingly bothers me about this fig note. Fig can bring a synthetic plastic note, and unfortunately, this one does so for me more and more. Additionally, it is also very sweet; I think of "Barbie plastic," which somewhat dampens my initial enthusiasm. Unfortunately, I can't perceive either incense or pepper. I can faintly sense the ginger with good will (and because I'm currently drinking massive amounts of ginger tea and know how it smells) after a few minutes as a soft background note.
The fig is the absolute dominator during the first 30 minutes. Then it finally relinquishes the plastic whip and wraps itself in soft suede. The leather note blends beautifully with the fig, becoming rounder, more natural, and fruity. Lavender follows later and adds a pleasant fresh spiciness without becoming soapy. I can't distinctly identify the other notes. Overall, the fragrance transitions from bright sweet to warmer "fully ripe" sweet during the first hour without appearing too juicy.
After three hours, the base emerges: the fig departs, the suede remains, and it embraces a balsamic sweetness. Vanilla does not jump into focus here, as it often does, but integrates beautifully with the other balsamic notes. It stays like this until I can no longer smell anything directly on the skin after about six hours.

The sillage is strong in the first hour and can be perceived from 2 meters away (I always test with two sprays on the forearm). After that, it envelops me at arm's length and dims down to skin close in the base.

What I like about Fig Extasy is that the fig is really well detectable for hours. The connection with leather is also harmonious and pleasantly surprised me; I hadn't experienced this combination before.
What I don't like is the plastic sweetness at the beginning... well, and I didn't find "Ecstasy" here. The moment when a fragrance completely catches you is indeed a "euphoric state with deeply felt happiness" (freely adapted from Netdoctor on the effects of MDMA) - but that moment was not present for me with Fig Extasy; the search continues.

EDIT November 2021: today's development is similar to what I described above, but I find the opening particularly less sweet today. It develops spicier and less synthetic.

Initially uplifting and citric spicy-green, a gently leathery, creamy/sweet spicy-woody Fall fragrance, on a warm and dry earthy-woody base.

Green almost earthy fig. Similar to Gris Charnel with more green earthy notes and less powdery sweetness. Completely unisex

The negative reviews I see say this is too green and leathery. This is my perfect level of fruity masculine. Subtle, green, clean and not sweet

The fig, if any, seems secondary here; Smells primarily soapy, slightly green and woody to me - as such, correct, but not interesting.

All I get is pepper and leather with a touch of bitter green. No fig to speak of except for the undercurrent of plastic.

Surprisingly subtle for the brand. Fig with a bit of leather, a lot of sandalwood, and a tonka bean finish. I think it's fine.

Leather makes the unlikable fig bearable for me. Fig leaf... so-so, let's lift it a bit... fruity-spicy sweet, leathery, a bit resinous. Solid.
