Curious intersection of gourmand and oriental elements, effectively assembled
Sampling Mancera Silver Blue, a 2019 release that’s intriguingly at the intersection of gourmand and oriental/spicy/woody, something sweet and indulgent crossing over with the vague rose/saffron/oud category that is very commonplace in the Mancera and Montale catalogue. Silver Blue involves notes of caramel toffee, labdanum, patchouli, and oakmoss, so no rose/oud/saffron at all, but that’s still the lens through which I view many of these house’s offerings and is the easiest way to communicate why this particular fragrance is so interesting. The caramel toffee aspect is most prominent and perhaps the most distinguishing aspect of the fragrance, so I think its success largely hinges on how that note lands, and it’s quite pleasant and strong to me, overall, accented by some other aspects. I think this fragrance gets high marks for uniqueness within the catalogue and is a good one, overall, if not among my favorites of the house, performing quite well.
As with the rest of the line, its concentration is EDP and retail pricing is $200 for 120ml via US points of sale like the house website itself and great boutiques like Olfactif, though it’s also available on the secondary market.
