Juicy, mellow fig!
Fig scents are a tricky thing. Often they come across as quite piercing, usually because the emphasis is too strong on the fig leaf, or they are somehow musty and dull, due to an overpowering wood accord.
Not so with this fig. The opening refreshes with a wonderful, fruity peach-fig note, to which the bergamot contributes freshness at best, but is not a scent giver. I cannot perceive coriander, nor fig leaf, just this wonderful, fruity-sweet opening accord. It’s a shame that it disappears after about 15 minutes; I would have liked to enjoy it longer.
In the heart, the juiciness and sweetness decrease, the scent becomes greener, but remains fruity - here I can confidently agree with the blackcurrant, yet the fig still dominates the heart note, even though some flowers have been added. Moreover, the heart note is quite soft - an effect achieved with green tea, which also removes some of the sweetness. The heart note is definitely a very pleasant scent, easy to wear, suitable for work or going out. However, I find that Sous le Figuier must match the wearer, as it is a light, yet refined gourmand.
The base simply takes up the heart note, making it warmer and a little bit more bitter.
I have long owned a decant of Sous le Figuier and have wavered back and forth about whether I should acquire this scent. I will pass on it, as when I feel like fig, I reach for Aqua Allegoria Fig-Iris or Higo from Campos de Ibiza, both of which are part of my collection and just as beautiful as Sous le Figuier.
