Mediocrity refined to the best extent.

What a conflicting and toxic relationship I have with this fragrance right here. I want to hate it so bad, I want to make myself see how mediocre and uninspiring it actually is, yet, time and time again I spray it and stay in awe by how much I love this. Had a bottle, sold that bottle, regretted it so badly, got a new bottle.

The cardamon, saffron and mint in the opening is so alluring and spicy, overwhelming yet intriguing. Blackcurrant, fruity, green, warm cinnamon with creamy tonka. Surprisingly, no cannabis smell on my skin at all. Grab a fougere, make it more "bad boy" (I hate that term but it applies so well here), and give it an edge that makes it stand out. It is a blue fragrance, it is a fougere, it is a lot of mass appeal yet it paved its own path. It is not unique, it not groundbreaking, but it excels in what it tries to do. Versatile, elegant, sexy, long lasting, good projection (some days it is loud, others more subdued, no idea why). It is the closest thing I have found to a signature scent. If compliments matter to you, you will definitely get them here. I have been told this smells like me in a bottle (not sure how to take that but make with that what you will.)

Mediocrity refined to its fullest extent, what a love this is for me. The price on discounters is very valid, at the $150-170 range is the sweet spot for the value this will have for people who want to keep it in their collection. Will cherish this bottle, and will get another one once this one runs out.

Very interesting fragrance because its heavy,light,spicy,fresh at the same time like a perfect chameleon. VERY potent opening, my nostrils vere burning but it became pleasant after 1hour. I think this one's could work for everyday use and this is specially for those who enjoy cardamom or benzoi.

Still designer for a niche price

I remember when I believed that the original DesirToxic was a worthwhile competitor to a scent like Layton. The free product flying around on YouTube and Instagram definitely can give off that sensation. On my first experience of the original DesirToxic, I actually felt like there was some of that there. And then 1 day before smelling this flanker, I downgraded my rating from 8.5 to 5.5. The original DesirToxic is in line with stereotypical sweet-masculine F-boy style fragrances, but due to the huge overload of tonka bean, the scent feels like it could easily be in Carolina Herrera's line of Bad Boy fragrances.

While the opening of the new DesirToxic L'Intense has a similar designer feel from the sweetness and tonka bean, the on-skin scent is a mild improvement over the original. The scent features a prominent woodiness this time around. At first it smelled a bit, dare I say, green and/or camphorous. It made me believe that the cannabis accord was still featured (in reality, it isn't). I notice the patchouli bringing a mild spicy flair in the base and I notice the black currant offering hints of fruitiness. However, I wouldn't say that fresh is a top 5 accord.

The core utility of the fragrance remains the same. The performance improvement is nonexistent as I get equal performance with the synthetic tones aiding performance on the original. The price mark-up is quite negligible, meaning the flanker is a little bit better in value. Both Micallef and Penhaligon's have produced fragrances in this genre and ultimately, the product of both houses (within the masculine sweet-aromatic class) smells closer to designer than they do to fragrances like Layton and even Papilefiko. Nothing to see here, move along people.

Greener/More Mature Flanker

I sampled both this and the original DesirToxic and ended up with a full bottle of the original. L’Intense is not a bad fragrance. It’s actually quite good. The original is just special though. L’Intense takes the DNA a little greener and doubles down on the Fougere aspect of the fragrance. The addition of mint and moving the cannabis note to the base of the fragrance makes this a more mature and less playful wear. The original DNA is still there and the complete dry down is not drastically different but L’Intense lacks some sweetness that the original had that added a lot of charm and contrast to the original.

This is one more for someone looking for an interesting take on a barbershop type fragrance than a night out or date night banger.

The performance does get amped up on this one and is true to the L’Intense name. I get 8 solid hours out of the original with moderate projection for the first 3 to 4 hours. This flanker I got about 10 hours with about 5 to 6 hours of projection. So for those of you who are obsessed with fragrances lasting past the 8 hour mark, L’Intense would probably be your better bet.

Not much Cannabis: Citrus and Creamy woodiness

The original Desir Toxic is a bit more mellow, but here the creamy woodiness is much more prominent. It opens similarly to a blend between Blessed Baraka and Oud by ADP (or even Rito Riserva IX) with a somewhat uplifting citrusy amber. The middle stage follows a similar path to those mentioned, featuring citrus and creamy oud, but without any cannabis — which was the main reason I wanted to sample this perfume. Considering the design and the backstories, I was hoping for something more phytocomplex — a bold herbaceous character, ideally blended with a dark base at best.
