Stylish Oriental
Cardamom, resins, spices, leather, wood (I get more cedar than sandalwood initially), lavender, nutmeg, something “candied” (kind of fruity, but dry). Surprisingly, as the compositions look quite different on paper, initially Style reminds me quite a lot of Horoof Otriyah by Arabian Oud, which by chance I wore quite a lot recently, as much as some vague references to a couple of Cacharel scents of the past – notably Pour Homme and Nemo. Style is basically a smoky, spicy Oriental scent with a velvety-woody vein, and slightly sweet in a dark, dusty way. Lot of whiffs and scents melt here: aromatic woods, flowers (jasmine), spices, leather, resins, smoke, sweet “candied” hints... kind of a “suk” ambiance. Very well blended in my opinion, as you get a really thick, harmonic blend in which you’ll have quite a hard time picking the notes individually. It’s dark, but in a peculiar and unconventional way – which I just can not explain. A sort of exotic, natural, “brownish” kind of dark. The patchouli, initially I don’t get much of it, while shortly it emerges more clearly together with incense and jasmine. Soon this becomes the prominent “triad”, always on leather and resins. The patchouli here is unconventional as well: not much earthy and (partially) without its signature sort of “non-sweet cocoa beans” smell; rather “leafy” instead, and quite bitter. And so becomes the scent: more and more sour, bitter and woodier-leafier as time passes – losing a bit of resinous-spicy sweetness. At this stage, which is basically the drydown, it also reminded me a bit of Noir by Reminiscence. Really nice overall, solid and rich, although unworthy the price tag (Horoof, which is kind of similar to this, costs half of this; and so does Noir by Reminiscence).

memories...
.. of my favorite uncle jump out at me from this scent.
He always smelled a bit of leather and the finest smoke. Characterful and proud, yet alert, courageous, and kind.
This inner dialogue in "style" of spicy and citrus
strikes me as both tradition and youth at the same time.
Noble, characterful, and yet surprisingly zesty.
Alert and composed.
Heaven, who could wear this scent, except for my uncle Franz???

Intention or Coincidence?
When I first tested Style, I already had the feeling from the very beginning of the fragrance that I owned a similar scent. When my husband walked by and said, "Don't you think Antaeus is a bit too much in the heat?" the penny dropped for me as well. But does Style really have that much in common with the classic from Chanel?

Only a comparison test could provide clarity.

Two days later, I applied Style on the left and Antaeus on the right in the same dosage to see how much the fragrances have in common.

Result: The top notes differ the most.

Style is a bit more penetrating here and has significantly more citrus notes at the start. Antaeus presents itself a bit softer and less fresh at the beginning.

With the heart notes, the fragrances come closer together, although they never become true scent twins. They behave more like brothers who cannot deny their kinship.

Style also appears a bit harder and bulkier in the heart than Antaeus, which has a slightly spicier character.

In the base accord, I had to sniff closely to recognize the differences. Style does not feel as corporeal as Antaeus here and is also a bit more reserved in terms of longevity.

I naturally wonder whether this similarity is intentional or coincidental, but it is not reprehensible to be inspired by a great classic.

In direct comparison, Antaeus clearly comes out on top for me, as I simply find the composition more refined and particularly appreciate the corporeal aspect of the base.

I wouldn’t buy Style, but I would use it if I received it as a gift.

Grilled Potatoes with Cinnamon
Since I discovered "Aoud" by Micallef a few years ago, I have been a fan of this brand and eagerly look forward to every new release.
For about two weeks now, there has been a new fragrance at KaDeWe from the line that, at least officially, is overseen by Geoffrey Nejman - the husband of Martine Micallef.
Was the wait worth it?

Let's start with the exterior:
Fortunately, Micallef seems to have bid farewell to the raw grenade-like bottles in this line, which nearly undermined the value of the product for me. "Style" is available, as well as "Emir" and the other fragrances from the line in the well-known round bottles of the main series. Only a small handle on the cap indicates a difference.

So what about the inner values of "Style"?
The top note is definitely one of the most exciting I have smelled in the last few months, and if the rest matched this opening, I would have braved all fears of impoverishment and purchased the fragrance immediately.

Cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and lemon: At first, I am simply overwhelmed by this opening. Both cinnamon and cardamom often strike me as very attractive in a fragrance, but cardamom can also quickly become too intense for me. That is not the case here. It takes me three tries to at least recognize cinnamon and the sour lemon. A clear case of "Wow." This beautiful note lingers with me for about ten minutes, until mainly cinnamon remains. Great - now the heart note should come - but it doesn't. I can only sense the lily of the valley, with no trace of lavender or jasmine.

And now my imagination kicks in: To my surprise, I find myself transported back to my early youth: Sitting by the campfire and eating potatoes roasted in the fire. Can that be? I have never perceived such a note in any perfume. Do I want to smell like this? - Nope! Initially, I assumed I had simply picked the wrong day or that my olfactory cells were overstressed.
That's why I repeated the test two more times on different days. Unfortunately, with the same result: earth and smoke. My suspicion that myrrh is involved did not hold up when I looked at the pyramid. Probably the combination of sandalwood and frankincense is responsible for this strange note. From the patchouli, I can at most perceive the musty aspect.

On paper, it smells much more differentiated, cinnamon lasts significantly longer, and the scent progression is more clearly separated. Therefore, I suspect that one or the other will have more luck with this fragrance than I did.

Have Fun!

Starts beautifully woody-spicy-fresh-lavender, but then unfortunately jasmine (slightly off-putting) takes over. Spoils the fun! No style for me.

Citrusy-spicy start, increasingly lavender. Solid scent, feels unisex to me, but not worth the price.

Sweet-musty sweat on a band-aid. If that’s “style,” I’d rather go without :-)
