Patch and Bergamot, here, there........everywhere.
I thought it was just me, after reading the first review here though my suspicions were confirmed, I smell Bergamot!

Bergamot is not listed but that's what I get, Patchouli and Bergamot.

Jo Malone's Oud & Bergamot comes to mind when wearing this scent.

Patchouli, to me, is really nice, conjuring images of a dark/earthy environment but can easily become olfactory overload.

Great quality and more for casual fare, though easy on the application because I'm guessing that there are plenty of folks that find patchouli an overbearing fragrance note.

Herb, frisch, klasse!!
Now that I have a bit of free time in 2019, I dedicate it to this special little scent here.
Vetiver Patchouli by Montale was recommended to me as a somewhat more affordable alternative to Orage by Louis Vuitton. When it comes to fragrances, I usually tend to be the type who cares about "as long as it's original and in the bottle." This is the first time I didn't care about that. And I haven't regretted it.

Vetiver Patchouli has once again a very functional name, following the credo "what's on the label is inside." I haven't come across the Montale brand before, and I don't know any other scent from this house. However, it might be worthwhile to give it another sniff.

VP has almost a sour opening, with a complete absence of citrus, which was new for me. One almost wants to step back, as the first inhale really hits hard. There is a crisp freshness in the composition that has been unique to me so far. Vetiver as a single component is good and very long-lasting, while the other components are not really distinguishable for me. The scent progression remains relatively constant, although I believe that from the base note, Patchouli seems to become stronger.
The longevity leaves nothing to be desired.

VP has nothing sweet, gentle, or soft. It is quite distinctive, yet still remains somewhat in the background. It doesn't take over the space but surrounds the wearer with a rugged, fresh aura. I can't think of any situation where it wouldn't fit. Definitely the best choice is probably the workday, even in customer contact, as it becomes somewhat more subdued despite its initial intensity. I could imagine that it might become a bit musty in the height of summer, but that remains to be seen. VP is declared as a men's fragrance, but in my opinion, it is also well-suited for the confident ladies.

If you have the opportunity to test it, it's worth it and costs less than half of Orage, with better longevity and a fantastic bottle. The pin just needs to be removed before using the travel bottle.

Thanks for reading.

Three Tones / Triad
The green, broad, coolness of the vetiver is spiced with crushed pink pepper [and yes: it must be exactly this juicy, spicy pink pepper]. The patchouli chimes in with its green earthy tone.

Everything is earthy. Everything is green. Key of C major.

And from some background, an almost menthol-like tone makes its way through. It brings every single note - earthy, ungrave patchouli/green-green vetiver/juicy pepper pink - to shine. Menthol-like. Minty almost. And friendly. Unrealistically friendly green. Radiant. Fiery? Vibrant.

The Bourrée from Handel's Water Music. The recording with Neville Marriner and his Academy. When the brass and strings toss the notes back and forth. A spectacular performance. What a dance over the water. Fiery!

A radiant work of art.

What the hell...
After recently expressing my thoughts on my absolute favorite fragrance, it's now time for this one. I will try to write as politely as possible. I don't want to offend any lovers of this scent. But what the hell is this? One thing is for sure, I don't know of any occasion where one should smell like this. But maybe my senses are just going crazy with what I smell and perceive. As always, for testing, I only sprayed one spritz on my forearm.
And I immediately detected a medicinal scent. As if I had rubbed myself to clear my airways. And they did clear up. Unfortunately, this didn't turn out to be an advantage later on. Is this supposed to be the fresh green scent that everyone raves about? Well, it's not for me.
Although the opening is still the best part of the fragrance. And now for those who may have only tested the scent briefly on a test strip. After about half an hour, the fragrance changes drastically. As if you are standing in an old house where the floor is being removed to replace the clay layers with insulation. It smells slightly musty. But if you think that's all there is, you are mistaken. Shortly thereafter, you suddenly find yourself in a cemetery, smelling a freshly dug grave with damp earth.
So this scent development is quite genius for those who enjoy such things. But I don't want to smell like that. And for everyone who always imagines certain people with a fragrance, I picture an old man in a worn work jacket and rubber boots. A cemetery gardener who walks through the cemetery in the morning, with damp earth sticking to his boots and old, musty leaves clinging to the wet earth. So for me, this scent is nothing. The longevity is probably good. But I couldn't test that because I had to wash the scent off. The bottle is typical Montale and thus still the best part of it all.
I really wouldn't recommend this fragrance, but for those who think this is exactly what they need, I definitely recommend not buying it blind but rather trying it out first.

The Earl Of Grey Meets Jasmine
With Vetiver Patchouli, Montale has introduced a third patchouli fragrance in its current lineup this year. Or rather, "Patchouli" is part of the perfume's name. While the other two are typical Montale powerhouses with plenty of punch - Patchouli Leaves is a hardcore patch and comes across quite loudly, and Patchouli Leather makes the leather whip crack impressively - Vetiver Patchouli is a quiet one.
In the opening, there is a strict citrusy vetiver note, like bergamot, refreshing, which remains throughout the entire duration. The scent progression is linear. There is hardly any change. Only the initial strictness softens after 5 to 10 minutes. The fragrance then appears rounder. After about half an hour, a hint of patchouli can be gently sensed. But really just a whisper. In a blind test, I wouldn't have guessed it. After about 2 hours, when the vetiver loses its dominance, jasmine steps a bit into the foreground.
After 4 hours, the Montale has faded away. Quite short-lived, actually. The sillage is okay, I think. More doesn't need to be.
Anyone who enjoys fresh, green scents, likes vetiver, and is looking for something for summer should give it a try. A masculine fragrance with an aftershave character. A classic that my father might have worn in a slightly different variant. I associate it with shaving soap, barbershop, tweed suit, Sean Connery, Prince Charles, Earl Grey, green nature, and cool streams. A nice little fragrance that always works and never bothers. I prefer to stick with Patchouli Leaves, Profumum Roma Patchouly, and Patchouli Noir. And for the really hot days, I have the (new) Elixir from Reminiscence. I just let myself be tempted again. I had a feeling about it, somehow. Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to Dunki, who was able to decant 5 ml from his sharing for me!

Nothing groundbreaking but a nice fresh and tart scent. Vetiver and patchouli that remind me of Sur la Route by Louis Vuitton.

1:1 LV Orange. Very elegant citrus scent with character like almost no other. Slightly watery and earthy, just like a summer storm.

The name is kinda deceitful; primarily a citrusy fragrance with clean, woody patchouli for depth. Not very powerful, unlike other Montale's.

A rather dark, warm and powdery spicy earthy-woody Mid season fragrance, balanced by a fresh and juicy citric spicy-green opening. Masculine

Pepper and vetiver combine for a spicy smoky note that smells like a distant relative of TdH on speed.

Smells nice, but that's about it. A bit green, a hint of spice, patchouli and flowers are rather vague. It doesn't really resonate with me.

Sour earth and bitter, dry green. It's too harsh for me and feels a bit unwelcoming.

First sour, then you recognize the structure. A bit wild, very dry vetiver, pepper, then patchouli more defined and spicy°°°

Grapefruit, vetiver, patchouli leaf. Like tea leaves, raw but honest. Only the carrot shows its noble side, giving the powdery-leathery iris.
