On the occasion of the 2019 London Craft Week, from 8 to 12 of May, the Art Deco Lobby of The Beaumont Hotel in Mayfair became an illustrious venue for very special olfactory encounters. The imaginary founder of the hotel, Jimmy Beaumont, had asked renowned British perfumers to create bespoke fragrances for his "The Jimmy Beaumont Perfume Collection". The greatest of the scene gladly followed the call, amongs them Floris London, Tom Daxon, Paul Schütze and - Ormonde Jayne.

The theme of the Jimmy Beaumont Perfume Collection were the Roaring Twenties and especially the artists of this time. Under the theme "Rebels and Rogues: Creating Bespoke Perfumes" the fragrance "The Great Gatsby" was created, one of Linda's favourite books and thus in honour of Franics Scott Fitzgerald, the author of the celebrated novel.

The patron of the name, Jay Gatsby, is an unhappily in love, but legendary man. No one knows where he or his wealth came from. He celebrates roaring parties and surrounds himself with the rich and the beautiful. This sunny side of the very lonely Jay, Linda portraits in the fragrance.

The Great Gatsby starts very consciously citric. Almost exuberantly fresh. And here I had to pause for a moment and took a Zizan out of it´s shelf. Since the notes of the two scents are almost exactly the same, Zizan wandered on the back of my other hand for a direct comparison.

And, yes, they do have similarities, but Zizane only has a lemony top note for the first 30 minutes before fully surrendering to the ISO-E. Jay Gatsby does things differently here. And so his class shows itself - as bespoke.

Thus the citrics are carried by the slight acidity of the juniper and thus already here experiences a twist in the direction of a Gentlemen´s Cologne. Perfect, when we're looking at a rich dandy. This mood lasts almost 1.5 hours. Very, very long for a citric chord. During the whole time, laurel can be smelled as a spicy companion, which gives the fragrance a twist into spicy green without having to change the fresh, bright sound of the fragrance significantly.

This male, tart freshness is further enhanced by vetiver and (oak) moss. The fragrance always keeps the theme of clean cologne "as freshly shaved" and thus also draws a wonderful picture of the untouchable Mr. Gatsby. Well-groomed, but also smooth.

If the "ingredient brother" Zizan continues to develop mainly through his wood note, The Great Gatsby gives more and more space to musk and thus continues to open the stage. Very suitably and harmoniously. It behaves fresh and yet very manly. Keeps the wood in check and lets the Shaving-Foam-Vibe slowly fade away.

It still wears for hours and shows how a Bespoke can work as a portrait. Big Picture!

And in the end, Jay finds his Daisy. And when he hold her in his arms for a moment, maybe he smelled the same way.
