More of a shower than rain
Another successful blind-buy. I'm in love with Purple Rain for multiple reasons:

1. Peach is my favorite fruit, so naturally I look for a juicy peach note. Purple Rain delivers this with peach lasting the entire time.

2. I love magnolia, and I love rose. Here we have both, being especially more detectable toward the dry-down.

3. I'm a sucker for presentation, and the hand-polished crystal bottles from Parfums d'Elmar are top-tier to me.

4. Prince (RIP). But I'm not sure if he is the main inspiration toward the naming of this bottle. I feel like he'd have worn this though.

As stated, peach is omnipresent. Cardamom and bergamot are lightly blended so as not to take over. At first, it seemed more of a sweet-spicy fragrance. However, as the spice and citrus subside, the florals take over and join peach for the remainder. It's slightly powdery somewhere, too, but I only notice it when I focus on it.

My only kvetch is the strength. Longevity is decent but the projection falls short. I get around 7 hours until I can't detect it anymore but it doesn't radiate too much.

Another Dupe?
Just like with the review of "Velvet Paradise | Parfums d'Elmar," I have to say that I'm struggling to find a starting point. There are so many things I want to say about the background, etc., which is why I recommend reading the other review as well if you want a few more insider news :)

Enough chit-chat, now to the scent!

The DNA is well-known. It's basically the same game as always with Elmar, which I find cheeky given the price. We are in the price segment of WIDIAN, my favorite brand, and even there I sometimes wonder if it's worth the price. But at least there I get art; Elmar is like an art influencer on Instagram who claims to have reinvented the wheel, but in the end, just copies Basquiat.

Since I've drifted off a bit and let out my frustration, BACK to the scent once again. It is beautiful, really beautiful, even so beautiful that one could almost mistake it for a dupe of Salam......... oh wait. For me, it's a clear case; I haven't smelled Salam in a long time, but I immediately thought of it. It's not a 1 to 1, but that's what Elmar always does. It's a shame, really; after "Velvet Paradise | Parfums d'Elmar," I had a bit of hope.

There's not much to say about the scent profile: sweet, floral, and ambery, just like Salam or a few other scents from Anfas. Would I prefer this scent? Maybe. Is it worth the extra cost? Never.

Longevity and sillage are also good, but that's the same with Salam...... So if you smell it somewhere and think, yes, I would like that, try exploring a bit with Anfas; you'll find quite a bit, not only cheaper but also more original.

Elmar remains a nice house, but they are not artistically gifted.

A Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow
The Swiss bank account of Parfums d'Elmar demanded replenishment. And since the account particularly likes purple bills, this year's theme for the competition was quickly found: la Magie du Violet. The requirements for the new fragrance were precisely formulated: "at least as successful as Mahina; target audience: lovers who respond to 'expensive' with 'this is olfactory art' and please no experiments - we still remember the last summer release from Stephane Humbert Lucas."

Among the applicants: a young, talented Spaniard - let's call him Maurice. The theme immediately brought a rainbow to his mind, that magical play of colors, at the end of which, according to legend, a pot of gold awaits. "How fitting," he thought, and so he picked up the olfactory brush to transform the colors of the rainbow into fragrance notes:

Red: a velvety rose, for which Snoop would even set aside his Delina

Orange: a sun-ripened, juicy peach, enveloped in delicate musky fluff

Yellow: 14-fold cold-pressed bergamot oil for the ultimate summer freshness

Green: cardamom for a spicy kick

Violet: iris processed at full moon, which even makes the muse of YSL weak

But when it came to blue, things got tricky. Cornflower? Too tame. Gentian? Too wild. Calone? Too aquatic, too retro. Therefore, Maurice resorted to a tried-and-true trick that had already helped Tygar... Uh... Mahina and Kaya Bodykon achieve success. And since the rainbow symbolizes peace in many cultures, he simply chose Salam as blue (Pause).

The base? Classic and luxurious: sandalwood for velvety softness, patchouli for depth, amber and vanilla for a golden warmth. No experiments - that was the directive. And let's be honest: who doesn't like vanilla? (Maybe only those who inhaled too many "vanilla kisses" in the school sports locker room)

Maurice found the perfume name quite incidentally while Prince was playing on the radio: "I only want to see you laughing in the Purple Rain." For one thing Maurice had learned: if you're going to borrow, then from the greats. The result convinced the jury and the pot of gold was within reach...

But even if one color shines particularly bright in this rainbow, the overall picture remains beautiful. The velvety peach initially takes center stage before the floral, softly powdered heart gently merges with the warm amber base. The fragrance is overall buttery soft and fruity sweet, but in a balanced, fine, and creamy way. In the spirit of Prince, it makes me smile, even if the wheel isn't being reinvented here.
Will Purple Rain one day shine as brightly as Mahina? Time will tell, until then I enjoy the play of colors.

Review of a Salam Acolyte
I have long wanted a d'Elmar in my collection, not least because of their beautiful bottles. So, I was very excited when the new releases for 2025 were announced. When the first whispers emerged that the new Purple Rain is supposed to resemble the Salam, my interest grew even more.
After all, the Salam was my first niche bottle that I purchased.

As soon as the sample arrived, I sprayed it on right away! How does it compare to the Salam? Hmm?!
I could understand if people say it goes in the direction of the Salam, but a dupe? Not at all!

My first impression of Purple Rain - beautiful! Very beautiful, in fact! It starts sweeter and fruitier than the Salam.

Of course, the DNA is familiar: floral, sweet with a warm vanilla amber base.
But in my opinion, it must be quite challenging to create something completely unique amid the existing flood of fragrances today.

Purple Rain feels very well-balanced, and the longevity is good too.
It lasts a solid 5 hours on me, and I am usually not very lucky when it comes to the longevity of fragrances.

There is also a mystical bright oriental note that is by no means difficult to appreciate.
The scent has presence without being overwhelming or annoying. It feels as if one has been comfortably wrapped in a soft floral garment.

There’s not much to discuss about the pricing policy, completely outrageous! But in my eyes, the renowned fragrance houses don’t differ much in this regard!

For me, the PR is to be classified as a wintry evening and going-out fragrance.

You please me! Should I take you on? Probably not..
Purple Rain is once again a really great fragrance from Parfums d'Elmar. Elegant, noble, fine, and simply comforting.
I admit I recognize certain parallels here and there, which are also partly mentioned. I sometimes find that a bit unfortunate with Elmar, but well, reinventing the wheel completely has become difficult nowadays. Purple Rain certainly has its own twist, and thus I am always totally fine with it.

Purple Rain has a subtly sweet character with floral and slightly fruity accents. A super discreet and finely balanced spiciness is also present.
I always thought there was some kind of grape in it, but that is not the case. There is a fragrance from Swiss Arabian, Casablanca. A really great scent that plays with a nice apple-grape combination.
I get a similar vibe from Purple Rain, but not as sweet and definitely softer and smoother.
Moreover, the floral notes play well here too.

Comparisons are also made to Silky Woods by Goldfield & Banks and Salam by Anfas.
Silky Woods is relatively far removed for me, as this fragrance has always been noticeably "spicier" and has a distinctly recognizable leather and slight oud note.
On the other hand, Anfas Salam leans more in this direction.
However, they do differ!
I can certainly understand the comparison or the thought process behind it.

In any case, with Purple Rain, it develops a wonderful warmth over time. The amber accord combines excellently with the vanilla and especially the creamy sandalwood. I even find that at the beginning, the amber accord is already noticeable in the background and is just waiting to come forward.

A really great fragrance, but it actually conveys too many vibes of my Casablanca.
Of course, it feels finer here, less sweet, more floral, etc.
But I still smell those parallels, and for this reason, Purple Rain will probably never make it into my collection.
However, I can still recommend testing the fragrance because it simply smells good!

The scent lasts about seven hours on my skin. The sillage is solid. Not particularly good, but by no means bad!
Moreover, the fragrance is perfect for both genders!

Absolutely delicious peach with slight citrus and spice of cardamom. Peach stays present throughout; florals join in slowly. 10/10 bottle.

If someone had told me that the scent comes from Anfas, I wouldn't have questioned it. Nice? Yes. Original? No.

Inspired by another scent? No idea. What I'm sure of is: It has little to nothing to do with the Salam.

Great peach opening. Unfortunately, this quickly fades into the background, leaving a classically high-quality oriental spice blend.

A handful of spices, various little flowers, and a lot of warm, woody patch … this release does not convince me at all.

This lovely peach veil is simply exquisite. The vanilla-oriented base enriches the fragrance experience. So delicate, so soft. Mmmh.

Elmar is cooking - What's on the menu today?
Peach with musk for the people. Definitely leans towards Salam. Much stronger and fruitier. Nice!
