A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow
Parfums d'Elmar's Swiss bank account was in need of replenishment. And because the account is particularly fond of purple bills, this year's motto for the tender was quickly found: la Magie du Violet. The specifications for the new fragrance were precisely formulated: "at least as successful as Mahina; target group: lovers who answer "expensive" with "this is olfactory art" and please no experiments - we still remember the last summer release by Stephane Humbert Lucas."
Among the applicants: a young, talented Spaniard - let's call him Maurice. When he thought of the motto, he immediately thought of a rainbow, that magical play of colors at the end of which, according to legend, a pot of gold awaits. "How fitting," he thought, and so he reached for the olfactory brush to transform the colors of the rainbow into fragrances:
Red: a velvety rose that Snoop even ditches his Delina for
Orange: a sun-ripened, juicy peach, enveloped in delicate musky fuzz
Yellow: 14x cold-pressed bergamot oil for the ultimate summer freshness
Green: cardamom for a spicy kick
Violet: iris processed under a full moon that will make even the YSL muse go weak
But the blue was tricky. Cornflower? Too good. Gentian? Too wild. Calone? Too aquatic, too retro. Maurice therefore resorted to a tried and tested trick that Tygar... Uh... Mahina and Kaya Bodykon to success. And since the rainbow symbolizes peace in many cultures, he simply chose Salam as the blue (pause).
The base? Classic and luxurious: sandalwood for velvety softness, patchouli for depth, amber and vanilla for a golden warmth. No experiments - that was the message. And let's be honest: who doesn't like vanilla? (Perhaps only those who have inhaled too much "vanilla kisses" in the school gym)
Maurice found the perfume name in passing when Prince was playing on the radio: "I only want to see you laughing in the Purple Rain". Because Maurice had learned one thing: if you're going to copy, then copy from the greats. The result convinced the jury and the pot of gold was within reach...
But even if one color shines particularly brightly in this rainbow, the overall picture remains beautiful. The velvety peach takes center stage before the floral, delicately powdered heart gently melts into the warm amber base. Overall, the fragrance is buttery soft and fruity sweet, but in a balanced, delicate and creamy way. In the spirit of Prince, it makes me smile, even if the wheel hasn't been reinvented here.
Will Purple Rain one day shine like Mahina? Only time will tell, until then I'll enjoy the play of colors
