Of chemical clubs and second chances
I tend to belong to the faction that likes to overspray times. With light, floral fragrances, that's no problem. The one hour drive to work is enough to make the fragrance cloud disappear adequately and at the latest at work I am olfactory socially compatible.
I could not escape the new trend of clean-woman-softener-better-that-your-skin and so I tested some new releases and some forerunners of the trend. All common here is also the light, unobtrusive character, true Understatementdüfte!
So I suspected also with Valaya. Fortunately, I tested the fragrance on a weekend. 3 sprays loosely fluffy distributed around the neck and the misery began. This pungent fragrance cloud stuck the whole day and another day in addition to me as it can otherwise only coarse oud criminal scents. Worse still, the whole fragrance is a synthetic mixture high 10! From the whole white peaches and what there is still so everything beautiful in the fragrance pyramid read, no trace. The fragrance was exhausting, headache-inducing, just way too much.

So now I had burned my fingers to Valaya. The bottling wandered far away in the corner. I had the nose full. Actually, I wanted to sell the filling, give away, just get rid of. After some time, the oats stung me and I wanted to sniff again. This time it was only a very small spray on the back of the hand. And what can I say? The scent was still very potent, but nowhere near as aggressive as before. The bad stinging was absent - rather, the scent unfolded in the direction of bright, radiant, fresh-clean. Fruity is not the fragrance, nor is it creamy or milky or fluffy. The scent is also not inviting, it keeps the smeller somewhat at a distance. If you get too close with your nose, it becomes pungent. The sillage, however, is bright, clear, radiant. Almost a little cold.

So I tested Valaya further with proper measure to caution and what can I say? Me convinces the fragrance in the meantime. If you break down this clean trend to the essentials, you actually arrive at Valaya. Fragrance components are hardly to smell out for me in the chemical mixture. The fragrance does what it is supposed to do, it leaves the wearer smelling brightly clean and fresh all day long. No more, no less. The scent seems a bit unapproachable, it is not inviting, not soft and not delicate. Perfectly suited if you want to put down a tidy, professional and focused appearance.
Fittingly, the bottle is a dream of milk white glass. Certainly one of the most beautiful bottles of this brand!

Conclusion
Enjoyed with caution a beautiful fragrance. In my opinion, he meets the zeitgeist exactly on the head. However, you have to be able to endure strongly synthetic fragrances if you want to test the fragrance. Valaya certainly does not belong to the fraction of soft-fluffy musky fragrances. Anyone looking for something like that will be disappointed here. The scent is clear, cold, clean. I can only say for my part that you should test the fragrance several times. I am glad that I have not been deterred by the first impression.

PS: I have corrected the rating upwards.

Love at second sight
When Delina Eau de Parfum became popular, I thought to myself: I absolutely must test the perfume. Unfortunately, we became with Delina no friends, for me too prickly, too penetrating, all too much.

Then came the new Valaya fragrance. According to the description, it is exactly the fragrance I am looking for. A bottling was ordered.
When the bottling came and I first sprayed on the paper strip, I was totally disappointed. It smelled very pungent and artificial and my hope was at an end, the search was for me again failed. I threw away the paper strip.
After an hour, I gave the perfume a second chance and was enchanted by the magical fairy scent.
What smells here so beautiful white flowers, peach, the freshness and lightness? Is it about the fairies waiting for me in the flower garden? That was Valaya.

Sprayed on my skin, I was surprised how how the perfume evolves. There is still the synthetic note that is felt at the very beginning but after a short while it transforms into the 'fresh wash' direction. The florals, peach and tangerine outweigh the synthetics for me. It is a light fragrance, wearable for me in any season during the day.
When I want to have a good mood and a smile on my face, I reach for the bottling.

I would have given the fragrance a full 100 points. The fragrance itself is enchantingly beautiful, not intrusive, the durability in Parfums de Marly fragrances is incredible, they keep a day long if you spray on once a day. Clearly if someone wants to have the fragrance even more intense, re-spray. If here only not the proud price would be...
I will get me Valaya with one eye squeezed (because of the price).

It is worth a second time to test and give the perfume a chance.

a pastel amazon holding court in a feminist salon
Valaya from Parfumes de Marly is lively and elegant and immediately brings to mind the heroine of a period romance, someone you might describe as beautiful, free-spirited, and headstrong. And she probably doesn’t want to marry or have children or live by society’s standards or conventions, and she may, in fact, get kicked out of finishing school because she punched one young woman in the mouth and kissed another young woman in the same place. She runs away to Europe, holds feminist salons, and becomes both a secret political power and an ungovernable poet of no small renown. She smells of crisp cotton and luxurious linen pantaloons, the dozens of verdant, woody ferns which adorn every square inch of her Parisian apartment, and the delicate, musky nectar of a ripe peach which she is frequently seen biting into, her sharp, small teeth pausing to smile enigmatically between juicy mouthfuls.

Fleur Narcotique (Lemon hand wipe remix) turned uuuup
Oh dear, this is a loud scent! Valaya is a cousin to Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique, and I love Fleur Narcotique with all its synthetic cleanliness, but this one here is just too much for me. I actually tried this for the first time before I even knew Fleur Narcotique, and it made me a bit suspicious of the original.

This starts out quite peppery and sharp, and then quickly takes a turn into citrus territory. It's fizzy like a soda, sweet like peaches and mandarins, but there is also something about it that reminds me of the packaged lemon towelettes you get in Turkish restaurants after eating. Imagine that mixed with sweet fruits and a huge dose of the persistent musk molecules found in many modern niche fragrances, add a wisp of creamy white florals, and your pretty close to Valaya. I don't hate lemon towelettes, and there are moments where I enjoy Valaya's freshness, but still... this is not something I want in a perfume, especially not amped up to eleven with strong musky fixatives.

Overall this scent feels cold and harsh to me. It's not scratchy on the throat or anything like that, not quite as obnoxious as Erba Pura or Kirke (sorry to the fans, but these are two scents I just can't deal with!). But it gets on my nerves after a while. Most other female releases by PDM are much more elegant and fine-tuned to my nose. Delina for example is not exactly a quiet scent either, but it feels so much rounder and better blended.

And Valaya just won't go away. I sprayed it on my leg wearing shorts and it still managed to be noticeable on my sweater the next day. It gets reactivated in the shower, so you really have to scrub to get it off. Good for those who love the scent, I guess, but I find it obstructive.

Nice and fresh
It may have Quentin Bisch' (and Julien Sprecher's) name on it, but this stuff comes straight from the Givaudan factory. All prefab materials ready to be put together. Forget traditional perfumery and artisanal fiddling. This is big corporate at work, conquering the selective markets with maxed out ROI.

The scent profile is highly reminiscent of detergent with a lily-of-the-valley touch. It combines fresh citrus top notes with minimal fruity sweetness and a drop of vanilla to round it up. Utterly artificial, but you know what, who cares? Not every perfume is made for the snobs, the unicorn hunters. Behind this uninspired commercialism lies a scent that actually works. Easy-going, focus group proof and most importantly: plain "nice and fresh”. Nothing wrong with that, once in a while.

Musky & floral top, tolerable synthetic DNA. Peach adds fruitiness in the heart & base. Clean girl aesthetic spring-summer scent.

A safe and alluring sweet/floral scent with ambroxan. However, Valaya is not unique or interesting enough to warrant $300+ USD.
