Two perfumers - one thought?
In olfactory terms, I think of "London" to the eponymous Eau de Parfum by Tom Ford. This goes strongly in the spicy-woody direction with proper Kreukümmel and a rather dry to stale standing. There are associations with the cultural melting pot of the British capital with a nod to the historical past awakened - so I would interpret the fragrance at least.
Now the Texan Tom Ford is known neither Londoners, nor Englishmen - the more interesting is the comparison to the same topic from the point of view of the British Roja Doves, who at least in the London department store Harrods ran his "Haute Parfumerie" ... and there also interestingly sold fragrances of Tom Ford.
Now, with Dove's "London", I would have smoothly expected a far more sparkling, if not quite luxurious fragrance - including not necessarily specific ingredients, but something I associate with extravagance and/or clubbing.
Coincidence or not, this London reminds me very intensely of Tom Ford's namesake in terms of direction. At least, both creations share cistus, cardamom, coriander (seeds), saffron, cedar, incense and May rose or rose geranium (which totally goes down). Ok - some of these can be found in every third fragrance felt, but the first four are already quite present and together in this combination rather less often encountered.
Although cumin is missing here, which is used quite dominantly in Tom Ford, but this dry spice is definitely in the foreground, paired with some resinous or balsamic notes. The rest from the pyramid is barely noticeable except for some lavender. Only late in the drydown some vanilla and benzoin appear.
I can not imagine for the life of me that Roja Dove did not know or even intensively analyzed the four years older "London" from Tom Ford. Since I would also by no means speak of fragrance twin, however, at least as a "source of inspiration".
And in comparison, I find "London" by Tom Ford somewhat rounder, more appealing and more pleasant. Both are of course in terms of durability and sillage in the upper level, with Roja Dove the price spiral in a typical way still further ausreizt.
Of all so far known perfumes from the house of Dove m. E. rather lean - but that on a really high level.
