Naked skin, but better

A perfect cloud of powder and cream. So fluffy, so clean, never suffocating, dusty or sterile. This has the perfect amount of warmth and sweetness to not turn sharp and cold, but not more than that. I usually love vanilla, but I'm glad it wasn't added here.

Orris is obviously the star of the show, and it's the buttery smooth kind. The rice powder adds another layers of powdery cosmetic cleanliness, and a hint of soft rose rounds it all off.
This might not be the most original scent on earth, but it's so sophisticated and perfectly balanced that I don't mind at all. Céline does powdery scents very well in general, and Le Peau Nue toes the line between creamy and powdery flawlessly, leaning ever so slightly into the creamy site on my skin.
This is very true to its name, it's the definition of a "your skin but better" scent. Like you just showered and pampered yourself with the most exquisite body butter and powder. Very easy to wear and more of a daytime scent, but with a subtly sexy undertone, like a suggestion of the clean naked skin underneath our clothes.

faded beauty

a stunningly beautiful combination of orris butter and rose. smooth as silk; powdery, but not in any way scratchy or suffocating. this is definitely on the makeup side of orris' many facets; the finest milled pressed powder, or the most creamy-soft and buttery lipstick. the rose tames it into a slick of pink and beige skin shades, lightly effervesced by the merest sparkle of bergamot in the opening. incredibly minimal yet executed perfectly. by the point of late dry down, the orris is less buttery and takes on a more traditionally musky-powdery facet. with the vetiver, which introduces itself gradually and subtly, the rose becomes dried and brittle, almost reduced to a pale powder itself. there is also a touch of vanilla as well that begins to emerge. it does seem to augment and sweeten the rose a touch, but again, only so far as to support the main duet and not disturb it. it is, overall, akin to the description, of being like watching a photo de-saturate from overexposure to light and age, or a memory gradually fade to white static. quite nostalgic and melancholic in a way. longevity seems amazing, but it mostly stays close to the skin aside from the opening. that aside, all in all, perfection to my nose.

i really didn't think i needed this; i have Fleur de Peau Eau de Parfum and it's one of my favorite perfumes of all time. that said, they do not compare. but i thought i had this "box" checked, is what i'm getting at. i'm really focused on keeping my collection one of only signatures, as small as possible. but i had a few of samples of this, and, as it would turn out, my memory of this scent was not at all correct...oh i needed this after another few testings! anyway--i haven't been reaching for FdP lately because it's just so strong and eternal, whereas this is much more delicate and light, and yes: it disappears eventually (though not quite entirely). FdP is also very DRY to me -- beautifully dry, it's texture is sort-of edible in a way i can't explain other than it's almost toothsome, like al dente pasta. this has a lightness and its lipsticky vibe is, and forever will be, a favorite of mine. neither one is better than the other, they are very different girls.

this is by far my easiest reach. even when i don't want to wear anything, i can wear this. and i OFTEN want to wear nothing, but...that's not really an option (for the most part). nothing about this is overpowering or annoying to me. and, honestly, this is the MOST "Celine" of their fragrances, in my opinion (which is worth nothing). this girl is not expensive for the sake of being so -- she's classy, refined, she just knows no other way to be. somehow effortless, in that whole closet-full-of-neutrals way that i personally enjoy mimicking. it's almost like...OF COURSE something like this would be expensive. what i mean is, perfume is so expensive these days, ALL OF THEM! it's actually insane WHAT SOME JUICES COST and simply just aren't worth the cost of the cardboard box they haphazardly stuff them into. but this is deserving of its price tag: you literally don't have to think about it at all, and that's priceless.

i get--and LOVE--the baby wipes association (am a mom). but the lipstickiness keeps it interesting.

The rice powder accord is really interesting at first. However, after a few seconds, all I smell is baby wipes. Powdery, clean, inoffensive, smooth, and unexciting. I don't want to wear it again.

I was hoping for some more complexity: I don't smell any rose or vetiver in here. Or some more allure: I don't mind the scent of baby wipes, but I'm not drawn to it either.

The second half of the drydown, after maybe 4 or 5 hours in total, is a lot nicer. The rice powder is pretty much gone by then, as is the powderiness overall. The orris butter then starts adding a warm sweet creaminess that finally moves the scent away from the baby-wipe profile. This stage of the scent I thoroughly enjoy — but still not enough to redeem the rest.

LA PEAU NUE opens with a wonderfully cool, yet incredibly sensual iris that merges with the skin like creamy butter…..infinitely soft, milky bright, velvety gentle, tenderly enveloping and caressing……

Fine rice powder lays like a gossamer veil over the entire scent…..giving it elegance and a touch of nostalgia…….bringing warmth….

The rose absolute, which kept me from testing for a long time, blends in, does not take center stage, and merely provides a subtle, classically polished appearance…….

Vetiver and bergamot also remain subtle…….from their “cover,” they contribute just the right amount of freshness and regulate the sweetness……

Like all Celine fragrances, LA PEAU NUE is also very delicate and skin-like…….the longevity, however, is surprisingly good…..

For me personally, it is an exceptionally beautiful iris scent that starts cool and becomes warmer over time…….caressing, bright, gentle, well-groomed, soft, harmonious, sensual…..and very feminine…..

Addendum: After two days of “full-body fragrance” (so not just on the hand), I find that the scent - for me personally - develops a bit too sweet……I am, however, quite “intolerant” when it comes to sweetness…….I will still keep the overall rating at 10, because it is truly a great fragrance…….only my “personal” rating I would lower to 8.5-9……
