SPLENDID WOOD

Splendid Wood by the French Maison of Yves Saint Laurent from the exclusive YSL Luxury Perfume line 'Le Vestiaire des Parfums Oriental Collection' is a woody spicy aromatic balsamic smoky unisex perfume; was launched in 2017, this fragrance was created by Marie Salamagne and Amandine Clerc-Marie.
The exclusive YSL line "Le Vestiaire des Parfums Collection Oriental" was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's retreats in Morocco; and the fragrance Splendid Wood was inspired by the exotic wooden dresses and accessories of Yves Saint Laurent.

The woody notes warm and stimulate the senses, while a fabulous cardamom of the best I've ever felt in perfumery and incense structure the perfume with a slightly smoky woody pattern, jasmine brings a classic balance hand in hand with the usual 'oud & rose combo. The cipriol heats and blends with a woody, dry cedar gives more depth to the woody base. This composition enhances an arabesque brown color palette. Unisex fragrance with masculine inclination.
Woody, spicy, aromatic, balsamic, smoky perfume.

Refined elegance from YSL prive collection
The quality of this scent is insane, that explains the high price, but I do believe the reason this fantastic perfume is almost discontinued has to be because is an expensive perfume for a designer brand, but as I wrote before, for me the price is justified by the quality, the perfect blend and the performance.
I was looking for a woody scent to replace the Gucci pour Homme 1 perfume because I love cedar and incense, so when, by chance, I found this perfume, I was obsessed.
Very smooth oud and intense cedar notes that are balanced with exquisite cardamom and rose. The cedar is a prominent note, so elegant, so sexy, the oud is a very pleasant and elegant oud, is not a prominent note, is just there to give depth and balance. I also smell rose and a hint of Jasmine...
The bottle is very beautiful 125 ml or 75ml, you can read on the bottle " Cardamome-cedre"
Just for the record, Splendid wood does not smell like Gucci pour Homme 1, probably because of the cardamom note, if you are looking for a similar scent like Gucci pour Homme 1, I can recommend you to go for Bentley Homme absolute, also a great perfume, high quality for a very low price.
At the moment this is my preferred scent for night dates and formal tuxedo events.

Unforgettable smell !
It is a fantastic fragrance. This is my first fragrance from the Yves Saint Laurent niche line. To my nose, the cedar smell is intensely felt, mostly with woody notes.
Splendid wood reminds me of being in a ponderose pine forest on a windy sunny day.
it feels like walking among jasmine flowers!

Definitely smells luxurious and special !

Marie Salamagne
Marie Salamagne has become one of my favorite perfumers (Is that the correct gendering?). I would marry her immediately, no joke. The Arabic Rose created under her nose at Armani is a milestone in the history of perfume.

YSL's Oriental Collection is becoming quite rare. The places where one can experience it here in our country can be counted on one hand. The quality of the line is overwhelming. I am happy to admit this, but the price is correspondingly steep. One must pay over 200 euros for a bottle from the Oriental Collection.

Splendid Wood is so mild, deep, and rounded. It is the olfactory squaring of the circle as it gradually transitions into buttery soft wood tones. "Still waters run deep," is a saying often quoted. And this noble, elegant, and refined fragrance underscores the significance of this wisdom. Essentially, it does not draw too much attention to itself. Extremely beautiful fragrances often run the risk of sinking into blandness and drifting into pleasantry, as there are no distinctive traces to divide people, leading them to take sides based on individual attractiveness. Splendid Wood is beautiful and attractive at the same time, a very difficult balancing act, in my opinion. Especially the Armani Prive fragrances manage this Herculean task flawlessly.

Here, the beauty is presented undisturbed, yet it possesses so much natural, oriental grace that the fragrance envelops itself in a captivating aura. On my skin, there is no cardamom at the start, and later on, I cannot detect any jasmine either.

The fragrance goes straight to the point and presents me with a saffron-oud. A fabulously successful synthesis of East and West wafts around my nose. The aura is so oriental, but somehow I also perceive a hint of Paris. The scent is so delightful. I love it when a fragrance conveys its pure devotion, as uncompromisingly dense and emotional as Splendid Wood. I feel as if I am in a secret world on the threshold between East and West.

There is also a certain kind of stability emanating from Splendid Wood. Although it is so elegant and delicate, it does not lack a solid foundation on which this magnificent wood stands. This solid foundation is just as convincing as that which resides in every Amouage, giving it its characteristic Amouage sound.

Even though the name promises a strong wood scent, it ultimately does not turn out that way; it is too densely composed and far too fluffy. When the saffron-oud aura fades, it slowly transitions into such cuddly and soft wood tones. Splendid Wood is a medium for a journey through an oriental, woody atmosphere.

The threshold between East and West runs through the entire fragrance, which enchants with convincing longevity and an elegant, measured, yet distinctly perceptible sillage.

The Scent of Pleasant Luxury
Splendid Wood has long been on my list of rare colorful unicorns that I hunt for my little perfume garden.
"Velours" was my first fragrance from the "Le Vestiaire" line, and it has a fixed place in my collection. Velours really surprised me positively back then and made me crave for more.
It is so fine and well-crafted, following the path of the powdery-sweet scents that I love so much. :)

And then there is actually a perfume in the line that even contains cardamom - one of my absolute favorite fragrance notes!
Moreover, it is a main player in my favorite perfume of all time, La Nuit de L'Homme, which is also by YSL..! So it’s definitely a must-buy and test, this Splendid Wood.

About the scent.
The first impression I had was, "This smells similar to Velours!". I then thought about why, and I believe it’s the fine craftsmanship with which YSL has woven the fragrances of this noble line.
Splendid Wood is so rounded and seamless - you can't describe it better. Like the shiny wooden floor of a luxury yacht, freshly laid and pure.
Simply a solid piece of craftsmanship, perfectly tuned and balanced. No unwanted edges or splinters.

In terms of notes, Splendid Wood has nothing in common with Velours, but what I noticed is that I perceive a leathery touch from this scent!
It is said to contain oud and woods, but what comes across to me is more of a smooth, slightly sweet leather, with a hint of smoke.
The smoke likely comes from the included incense, but it is so well integrated into the overall composition that you feel it simply stems from the oud.
This classic oud impression that you know from M7 or Oud Wood is not as noticeable here; as a whole, Splendid Wood reminds me more of Godolphin or Ombre Leather than anything else. Still distinctive and individual, but that’s the association that came to me.
The cardamom is not "tingling" and anchored in the top note like in La Nuit de L'Homme, but rather radiates more from the heart of the fragrance, and has a smoother, rounder quality.

Yes, smooth and round captures it; that’s how you can imagine Splendid Wood. Smooth, green-balsamic, slightly spicy, sweet leather.
At least for me, and I’m sure people who can isolate notes better and are more at home in the oud spectrum than I am can analyze this scent more analytically.

But that’s my impression, and that’s what this is about.

In any case, it’s a pleasant, high-quality scent that I believe no one will find bad. It has a very noble quality, sometimes reminding one of an expensive new car, or something like that.
Which also conveys a certain luxurious lifestyle feeling, which you might not necessarily want to feel all the time.
However, it can perhaps uplift you on those days when that’s exactly what you want.

For me, it has earned a fixed place in my collection, and I will surely enjoy it more often, especially in the cooler seasons. :)

It should also be mentioned that the packaging, like the golden mirrored bottle, magnetic cap, and fine packaging, makes the product as a whole cohesive. In this price range, it’s almost a must.

Definitely a test recommendation for fans of leather or oud fragrances. :) And I can only recommend the Le Vestiaire series to everyone; I’m really curious about what else is coming my way. ;)

Gentle and noble smoky oud scent. Perfectly spiced with cardamom. Fine wood and cedar give it a kick. Nagarmotha and incense are finely balanced.

Creamy-elegant oud scent that brings nothing new. Objectively a rounded fragrance, subjectively a boring repetition.

Many dry-spicy woods, oud & incense are perfectly balanced, but still result in a familiar scent profile.
