This one is WAY different on skin
I grabbed this one because I like the Y line, and the hotter seasons are approaching the USA. It’s another one of those scents that you absolutely CANNOT buy unless you test it on your skin.
Why, you ask? Well, on paper the Y dna does NOT show itself much, if at all, but on skin you immediately notice it, despite it being somewhat camouflaged beneath the lemon/citrus opening. Just this fact alone is absolutely HUGE, as it is an almost day to night change. DO NOT BASE YOUR DECISION ON WHAT THE STRIP GIVES YOU. Some might like the fact that there seems to be less Y dna (on paper), some may wish there was more. Spray it on the wrist and let it evolve.
Now on my skin, here’s my opinion.
I like the way this one smells, for the warm weather. There’s an almost “cooling” sensation that radiates from it, more so in the opening. A really strong lemon/citrus dominates the opening, together with a soapy feeling that it gives a fresh out of the shower vibe. It’s a very light, very bright sensation. Underneath this, you sense the Y edt dna. Not the EDP, but the original, soon to be reformulated EDT. It’s there, noticeably present, but almost as if that shower fresh vibe is stacked on top of it, rather than blended/mixed together.
This may be good for some, but it will be bad for others. Note that that’s how it is. Forgive the analogy, but it’s like a wet white shirt. Imagine that as how the scents sit together. The soapy lemon/citrus is a thin white shirt that is soaked in water, and the Y edt is the wearer. That’s how it feels in the opening.
As it dries down, the lemon fades away, and it becomes more of a soapy fresh, what feels like sky blue freshie. That light turquoise color in the sky on a bright sunny day; that’s the blue I get from it. The Y edt dna gradually makes itself more and more visible as time progresses into the base drydown. When it finally gets to the end, it’s that Y edt sitting there in a 60/40 ratio, but now blended together with the soapy turquoise rather than stacked underneath.
Performance wise, this one is debated profusely. On my skin, it projects loudly in the opening, easily reaching 3ft of radius, but the projection dials back very quickly, to very soft 1ft bubble. Sillage trail does the same thing. Following you strongly for the first 1-2 hours, and then becoming almost nonexistent. Longevity on my skin, however, isn’t as terrible as most reviews say. I get an easy 6-8 hours, although the majority of it is a skin scent. A very noticeable, easily detectable skin scent. I don’t have to bury my nose into my skin to find it.
Is it for everyone? No. Is it a blind buy? Absolutely not. Do I like it, and am I happy with it? Yes I am.
