Amazing
I took one whiff of Dodo and was captivated. It opens with green and spicy notes of bergamot and rosemary before maturing into a bouquet of vegetation and fermenting fruit. To me, it's original rather than offensive.
That's why I was dumbfounded when I discovered this is such a polarizing fragrance. I hadn't seen the negative reviews prior to testing it. I'm not sure if they would have made me more eager to try it, or less. All I knew is that I love fougères, and that the dodo is one of my favorite extinct animals, so buying a sample was a foregone conclusion.
I tested it on my skin and never smelled anything resembling cat urine even hours later. It does have a pungent scent that is another source of criticism in the reviews I've read, likened to sweat or body odor, but it's not unpleasant. It's more like an earthy musk or a strongly aromatic spice (one of the notes is cumin, after all) than someone's neglected laundry.
I'm glad there are niche fragrances like Zoologist's collection. Zoologist's fragrances are always interesting even when I don't like them. When I do like them, they're even better.
