Kyara LTD Ensar Oud 2023 Pure Parfum

Kyara LTD is a very special perfume. Released as a limited edition Oriscent perfume created for the London Oudfest 2023. It opens with one of the most enjoyable perfume openings I think I have ever experienced from Ensar. Bright, clean ouds dripping with redberry sweetness, a soft medicinal quality that one finds in top shelf kyara oils, and a kinamic buzz that is usually only found in the best quality oils. The kinamic buzz is so different from other “kinam” oils I have tried which often tend to lean green. This is pure red, dark and resinous. I have never had an opportunity to try Kyara LTD oil neat, however I have tried Kinam Rouge, and I am getting quite a bit of similarities in the opening profile of it.

As the opening slowly makes way for the heart notes, the florals start to shine. Red champaca reinforces the red theme, and further adds sweetness and depth. Carnation adds a soft spiceness, and jasmine juhi adds an almost damp forest flower vibe further creating depth and amplifying the ouds. Saffron is delicately used to amp up the carnation spice and add a nice earthy quality.

The transition from top to heart notes takes its time. There isn’t a distinct or harsh transformation to my nose. And even less so into the dry down. This is not to say that it is linear or one dimensional. The ouds are so incredibly complex and rich, that the oud notes themselves are the perfume. The other notes are really just there to amplify the oud notes.

To me, this is the type of perfume to wear at home, to enjoy for yourself while enjoying a peaceful evening in, reading and enjoying a cup of quality tea. Wearing this out may garner you strange looks as you struggle to refrain from constantly smelling your own arm.

today I want to take on a very exotic and polarizing fragrance. It starts with the price. ~1750€ for a 30ml fragrance. High prices at Ensar have never been something new, but for some time now, the pricing policy has stood out particularly. It somewhat resembles Tom Ford for me. Although Ensar Oud also has COMPLETELY different raw material costs. To get this out of the way: everyone should decide for themselves whether to buy a fragrance or not. So let's get to the scent now :)

The fragrance starts for me with a very wonderful Kyara note (you can smell the quality here and it makes you crave the Oriscent oils). I have never experienced something so intense. Dreamy oud followed by flowers. I also perceive, like many others, a spiciness. This, in my opinion, runs through the entire fragrance. My suspicion: it is due to the otherwise not so present saffron. Towards the end, I am once again sent to an oud plantation with a bouquet of flowers, but creamier and more floral than at the beginning. That’s partly where the "problem" lies. It doesn’t undergo a truly versatile development, yet it knows how to convince with its simple EO style. Unfortunately, we also have to talk about the H/S. With a quoted price of around 1750€, most people probably expect a much stronger fragrance.

My conclusion here would once again be: TEST IT YOURSELF! This way, everyone can consider for themselves whether they are willing to spend so much money on the perfume or not.
