SAFFRON IN ALL ITS GLORY

This is a fantastic representation of saffron in perfumery. Saffron is truly front and center and you can smell all its facets in full glory. It opens with that slightly medicinal, peppery, and subtly leathery-rubbery character that saffron can sometimes have. As it develops, it sweetens a touch and you also catch hints of smoky frankincense and myrrh, beautiful resinous notes that give it depth.

Performance is excellent. It has real presence and you will definitely be noticed. Despite the saffron and ambroxan, this is not related to Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum. It is a pure, stunning saffron, almost a single-note fragrance, but not quite. It slightly reminds me of Nefs, which is saffron-heavy with a medicinal leaning oud. But Crystal Saffron is not as sweet or floral. The oud-like effect here is not actual oud; the leathery, smoky nuances come purely from saffron and the resins.

I like this.

Un auténtico misil, si quieres hacerte notar y que la fragancia te acompañe todo el día este es tu perfume. Olor limpio y elegante pero que destaca por encima de cualquiera, ambroxan y azafran a tope, perfecto para acompañar con traje, para una boda una cena, una reunión importante... Hay que tener cuidado con los sprays, 3 o 4 como mucho y bien repartidos. Lo veo exclusivamente masculino.

I ventured into the first fragrance from the house of Matiere Premiere and must admit that apart from "Falcon Leather (Eau de Parfum) | Matière Première," I was not familiar with any of the manufacturer's scents. The first fragrance reminds me of a major player in the perfume world and strays a bit from the house's own philosophy.

First, a few words about the house of Matiere Premiere. Aurelien Guichard has made it his mission to showcase a natural ingredient in a sort of overdose with each fragrance. What is particularly special is that he is said to be the only perfumer in the world who grows his own ingredients. While not all ingredients are sourced this way, thousands of rose bushes, tuberose bulbs, and lavender plants are grown in Grasse, his hometown, across more than six hectares. Quite commendable and a unique selling point.

As can be easily seen, Crystal Saffron Extrait de Parfum maximally showcases saffron from Greece, which is said to be the highest quality saffron. Somali myrrh is supposed to support the saffron in its presentation. Upon the first sniff, I couldn't help but smile, as the fragrance reminds me of "Oud for Greatness (Eau de Parfum) | Initio," which makes sense since saffron is also used there. However, the additional ingredients from the house of Initio were better selected. While the fragrance exudes a pleasant spicy freshness, I cannot understand why a manufacturer that places such high value on the finest natural materials ultimately uses synthetic ingredients in its scent. That simply makes no sense and has a negative impact. Nutmeg, oud, and musk in Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum support saffron much better than ambroxan or habanolide in "Crystal Saffron (Extrait de Parfum) | Matière Première."

In terms of performance, I also see room for improvement, as we are talking about an Extrait de Parfum. Six hours of self-perception is generally acceptable for a fragrance, but not for an Extrait in this price range.

I like the bottle; black just looks sexy, whether it's sports cars, dresses, or perfume bottles. I just find it a pity that all Extrait de Parfum have the exact same bottle and there is not much visual distinction. Accordingly, the character of the fragrance is not always reflected in the bottle.

The biggest drawback of the fragrance is definitely the price. 350 euros for 100 ml is quite a lot to ask. Even if the saffron were to come directly from Mount Olympus in Greece, I wouldn't spend that money on this fragrance.

Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum may play in the same price league but is in a completely different league in terms of content. Therefore, I cannot recommend "Crystal Saffron (Extrait de Parfum) | Matière Première."

Concentrated Power, but with Lots of Style!

To be honest, I only really like saffron in food; that’s where it belongs. A well-made Persian rice dish is forever one of my favorite meals. But as a scent, I find it rather unsettling. The series of fragrances from this house is consistently impressive. One by one, they have almost all found their way into my collection. The elixir here is quite new. And in summer, one would typically reach for fresh, light scents. However, what immediately impressed me is how well-crafted and distinctive it is. Right from the start, you get a strong, but not overpowering, very elegant and luxurious cloud to smell that doesn’t change significantly. A sweet, slightly spicy saffron note that is very well supported by Ambroxan. The beautiful leather note (not a stinky leather broth) complements it ideally. Whoever wears this fragrance should also match their outfit accordingly. Wearing a T-shirt and jeans is silly. It needs something a bit more luxurious. It radiates well and lasts a really long time. One should expect that from an elixir, and you pay for it too-not happily, but if the quality is right, at least you’re not annoyed. The bottle is reduced and minimalist like all the others, and the sprayer is okay.
