The one leather

The extrait version of Falcon Leather is really, I mean, REALLY good. It quickly dries down to the most wonderful, realistic leather scent that's smooth and creamy. There might be a little something else (spice, smoke, etc.) in the background but the leather rules. It's the best leather fume I've smelled to date and also trumps Falcon Leather EdP, which is rougher around the edges. This is clearly a masculine fragrance, not unisex.

I also compared it to Leather Eau de Parfum which I had previously tested but still had a sample. I thought highly of it at the time. I can easily say Leather does not come close to Falcon Leather Extrait which is so much better.

Longevity and projection are both very good, improving on the EdP in these departments as well. The only thing holding me back from ordering a bottle is the price. I definitely want it but Falcon Leather Extrait will have to be a special purchase.

selling the air..

In dutch language, we say selling the air when someone sells you something that has nothing to add as a value.
This is what it is with this new release!

First, they need to remove l unisex ) label as this is a pure Masculine fragrance.

Secondly, compare between this and the old edp, they smell similar like 98%, only one difference, that the original edp has more louder sillage than the extrait.

Nothing more! Just like that.

Then you come to the price! A 350€ for what?

I would purchase the edp for my dad if i need to purchase him some deep perfume for the winter nights

Darker, brutal and more sophisticated

Enhanced Falcon Leather as Extrait. Amongst all 5 new scents from the brand this one differs the most from original edp.

Less syrupy and sweet with prominent oud note. Deep and dark. When mixed with pillars of birch tar and saffron, after some time it reveals the smell of concentrated black tea. Less sweet and woodier. Smokiness is sharper.
Overall, good release together with Encens Suave and Santal Austral Extraits.

A lovely birch tar and oud fragrance - expensive but worth it

Matiere Premiere, or “raw material” in French, uses very high-quality ingredients whose geographical origins are indicated on their website. This brand was established by the perfumer Aurélien Guichard to build perfumes “around one central natural ingredient, used in its highest dosage”. The names of the perfumes indicate the main accord that anchors each perfume. Aurélien Guichard is the nose behind all the perfumes from this brand. This review is based on a full bottle purchased after testing only in boutiques a few times, something which I rarely do.

The main notes listed for Falcon Leather Extrait de Parfum are birch tar, benzoin, labdanum, saffron and oud. I have listed them here in the order of decreasing intensity, as perceived by my nose. Except for the oud, every other ingredient exists in the EDP version. All notes are presented simultaneously in the opening, with very little progression on the skin. There is a minor subsidence of birch tar after 6-8 hours, which makes the sweet benzoin more prominent. This is a very beautiful perfume that manifests exactly what you may visualize from the notes. But there are some nuances that make Falcon Leather Extrait especially exciting. The resins – especially benzoin – makes this a sweeter fragrance than the typical leather scent. The leather accord is really a wood tar essence, so it is smoother and softer too. As my nose for ingredients improves through exposure, I am increasingly hesitant to use the adjective ‘leather’ for birch tar fragrances. I would rather call them birch tar fragrances, because I can differentiate the birch tar note from the strong pungent animalic leather in Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus, or the more industrial leather in Dior Fahrenheit and Guerlain Cuir Intense. The oud is very meek in this perfume, but it adds a lot of color and richness to the woody notes in the extrait when compared to the EDP.

Falcon Leather extrait lasts 6-8 hours on my skin. The sillage is very good, as befitting a resinous woody fragrance. I can’t see it working well in a party setting as all its subtlety would be lost among other ambient smells. This is an expensive perfume designed for a library or a board room.

Now we get to the thorny question of value. I hesitate to give a universal recommendation for this perfume because it costs $420 for 100 ml through official channels. Though you can get it cheaper at the discounters, it remains an expensive perfume. However, I will encourage everyone to test at least a sample to verify if it is worth the money for them. There are many similar (not identical) perfumes that cost a tiny fraction of this price. For me, it is an unparalleled beauty, perhaps even a historically great perfume. As the old Gershwin song goes, “nice work if you can it”.

Falcon Leather Extrait from the French House of Haute Luxury Niche Perfumery Matiere Premiere is a Unisex Oriental Smoky Woody Amber Leather perfume. This is a brand new fragrance which has launched at the end of 2024; and the nose behind this fragrance is Aurélien Guichard, also founder and owner of the Brand.
This new Extrait line, in addition to the increase in concentration, came with a new ingredient in relation to the original creation in EDP; here at Falcon Leather is the 'Oud Assafi of the famous 'Assam region. The Brand also has the practice of informing only some key notes of the fragrance. Another interesting policy of the Brand is the simple presentation [box and bottle], and focus on very high quality ingredients.

I pick up a usual and brief citrus acidity of bergamot and a rubbery molasses that already offer a leathery and spicy opening at the same time. The dark resins are already starting to roam announcing the darkness that is to come. At the center of the fragrance unfolds around the warm and dark labdanum, bringing a deep resinous richness. The distinctive and smoky tarred birch bark of Falcon Leather flirts with a fine stubbed mist bringing elegance to the composition. It is at this stage that more smoke arrives now with the sweet incenses of benzoin and a slight gourmet touch of vanilla, leaving a luxurious ambery aspect in the background.

At the base towards the apotheosis of the fragrance there is a dose of a noble multifaceted oud: dark, woody, animalic, smoky, metallic without "unpleasant" stable aspects, a subtle 'oud without weight. In this version in Extrait as in EDP the central theme as a whole is also a smoky leather built with an almost unparalleled perfection, there is no roughness here or extremely animalistic nuances. A smooth leather with a perfect duality: smooth and refined, soft and deliciously velvety. Perfectly balanced perfume, perhaps it has lost a little versatility in relation to the Traditional in EDP; But they are very similar, no doubt.
