Is rose a flower whose fragrance can be worn by any man? Isn't the character of the rose rather feminine? Or what about floral fragrances in general?
Who could determine or generally define that? These are difficult questions that will certainly not be answered here.
As for me, I had my difficulties with rose. Not simply as a man or because I have difficulties with flowers in general. But because they simply gave me a headache. Rose in
Alexandria II Parfum, rose in
Casamorati - Mefisto, rose in
Oud Republic, all fragrances that I find really beautiful for 10 minutes and then have to wash off. It's nice that there's a great alternative from Gritti to
Alexandria II Parfum, with iris instead of rose. But you don't always find good alternatives. I had already given up on rose, with the small consolation that rose doesn't suit me that well anyway. But then I was able to test
Radical Rose Eau de Parfum and the extrait.
It is strange that the headache is absent with
Radical Rose Extrait de Parfum and the OG. It is not an overwhelming rose, but rather a fresh and spicy one. It is the spices that make it light. The saffron and the slightly cooling patchouli make it less greasy and heavy on the skin, rather tingling and weightless. The extrait is perhaps a little heavier than the OG, but still pleasant throughout.
In addition, the Imortelle makes the rose slightly resinous. It is not dark red but golden-amber. And so I can wear it well when I'm in the mood for a rose. On special occasions, not for me in everyday life. In the meantime, I can also manage with
Stricker and even there I find saffron, which makes the otherwise heavy flower float. So...
No, there has been no absolute radical shift towards roses. I'll probably remain a rose skeptic, but if I want to smell rose, I'll take this one. It's a shame that Matiere Premiere doesn't come in 30ml bottles. That would have been enough for my life, especially because of the pretty good performance.
The brand already seems to have its hype wave behind it, but I think they've taken the right step with the extraits. I also really like the bottle design. Let's see if a leftover 20-30ml bottle turns up somewhere in the souk.
Thanks for reading this far.
