Cappadocia Memo Paris 2024

A deep, complex, spicy saffron with some leathery undertones. Then the creaminess appears: cozy and elegant. I barely get any florals, but I do get some sweetness and a certain softness to the perfume. After awhile, I start getting some resinous, ambery warmth. It's deep, complex and very enjoyable to my nose. I start getting a little bit of woodiness from the sandalwood and some dry sweetness from the bourbon vanilla. It's very elegant, cozy and overall comforting to wear. The drydown becomes a whisper of spiciness paired with some creamy ambery warmth. The spotlight is clearly on the saffron, but the rest of the notes do have a moment in this perfume and all lovingly work together to support the main star.

I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, but it is a very beautiful fragrance. I see myself wearing it during colder months when I want to smell cozy, but elegant. I will probably be getting a bottle for my own collection!

I have never been to Cappadocia, even though I really want to AND my husband not only has relatives in a nearby town, but we have been there several times in the last years. It would be a one hour drive to go there, and it's a shame we haven't managed to do it yet. I really hope we'll be able to do it in the next years.

In the meantime, I visited Cappadocia in fragrance form. Or at least Memo's interpretation of it, hehe.
This is a woodsy, creamy, slightly sweet and slightly spicy scent. Out of the listed notes I can sense all the balsamic notes, a lot of saffron, a smidgen of vanilla and orris butter. I'm not sure what Nirvanolide smells like, but it's described as a clean, sensual, musky scent, which makes a lot of sense for this fragrance. The floral notes are less noticeable to me, especially the Turkish rose really is absent to my nose.

This reminds me a lot of Rosendo Mateu 5 (Floral, Amber, Sensual Musk). I have a bottle of that one, so I compared them directly. Cappadocia is a lighter and softer version of the same concept, it's not quite as warm and spicy. It has a cleaner feel to me and also leans a little drier. If scents had colors, 5 would be golden with different jewel toned speckles, and Cappadocia would be a cooler shade of gold with a silvery-white gleam. Both are more in the fall/winter category for me, but I would wear Cappadocia several weeks longer into spring.
Ultimately I still prefer 5 because of its richness and warmth, but Cappadocia is a really nice alternative if you're looking for something slightly softer.

Ah, a fragrance without any back and forth, without frills. A clear line; a common thread? Absolutely.. However, the clear line is rather dull and the common thread consists more of brown tones. Light brown, dark brown, shiny streaks. That’s a rough first impression.

The opening catapults me into work. Work? Yes, indeed, and that’s not a bad thing at all. More specifically, it catapults me into the "dust room." The tea room. I work passionately in a pharmacy. There, I often prepare Swedish herbs. For that, I weigh out 0.2g of saffron - the star of the recipe. Not just because of the price. Bright orange and dark red threads in the small white jar. Once opened, this super characteristic scent unfolds. Everyone knows it. Exactly how Cappadocia smells for about 2 minutes. Authentic, dry, cool saffron. Breathe, close your eyes. Gather impressions.
When making tea, you can briefly switch off. Thanks to the various scents, it’s a mini little vacation for the mind. A short trip to Cappadocia? I would love that. But then I’d rather drink tea there than make it.
After this short saffron excursion in the pharmacy, there’s now a vacation for the mind, for the senses. It follows a smooth symphony of soft, fluffy, and buttery notes. I am truly addicted to this fantastic base. Vanilla and incense set the tone in my eyes. Both harmonize in perfect symbiosis. Accompanied by the most beautiful, creamy sandalwood. Cozy and sexy at the same time. A tribute to tranquility, to enjoyment, to perception. Pause. I have rarely had such a calm and balanced fragrance under my nose. Everything is just right here. Nothing is too much and nothing is too little. I love it. It lets me unwind and dream. I would love to visit this place, which was unknown to me until now. It feels a bit like I was briefly there! I wish it.

A small note on longevity and sillage: on me, this treasure lasts easily 8, 9 hours and radiates present but gentle. That’s just right for me as well.

A little anecdote to finish: I asked my husband, "What do you think of when you hear Cappadocia?" He didn’t even look at me and said, "Cappuccino!"..... Well, we’ve cleared that up!

Upon the first spray, a rich blend unfolds immediately, enchanting the senses with warm, very sweet saffron and balsamic benzoin. The beautifully delicate vanilla and creamy iris butter give the fragrance a sensual & relaxed note.

The aromas are enhanced by the gentle rose and calming incense - which is only very lightly perceived in the background - softening the heaviness of the saffron and imparting a rather airy, fresher note to the fragrance.
The presence of sandalwood and jasmine creates a harmonious balance between warmth and freshness.
There is a slight resemblance to "Le Vestiaire - Babycat | Yves Saint Laurent," although here the smokiness and leather accord are absent. In my opinion, Cappadocia is also "significantly more pleasing & toned down," which is of course just my personal opinion.

In addition to its longevity, which lasts quite a long time on my skin, the sillage/projection is gently inviting without being intrusive. At the same time, the scent cloud conveys a subtle yet powerful composition that exudes beautiful elegance, making it an ideal companion for everyday use (e.g., in the office) & special occasions (e.g., restaurant/evening scent). What I also find noteworthy is that this fragrance can be worn in any season and really "works" well, as it is not overly penetrating or sharp.

Overall, I find "Cappadocia" to be an extraordinary fragrance that may not suit everyone's taste but is definitely worth the journey for those seeking an olfactory experience and are saffron lovers. The creation is a testament to refined craftsmanship, which I perceive as 100% unisex.

With "Cappadocia | Memo Paris," you are dealing with a distinctly resinous fragrance. If you enjoy this scent DNA, you could really get your money's worth here. I liked the smell a lot. On my skin, it lasted about 12 hours. The sillage is fantastic; I was approached several times at work about the fragrance and could even be detected in open fields.

The top note offers pleasant and creamy saffron with a lovely resinous quality. In the heart note, orris root and violet provide a certain powderiness. It also has an oriental spiciness of nutmeg, allspice, and saffron again. Sandalwood is also present. The base is exceptionally sweet thanks to bourbon vanilla, amber, and benzoin. Additionally, it has a pleasant scent of myrrh, opoponax, and incense. It also smells balsamic with tonka beans and again a good amount of saffron.
