Almost but not quite
On this first casual application, the gorgeous aroma of a perfectly ripe apricot wafted through the air.
I have, for a long time, been seeking a perfume that would translate to perfection the feeling of biting into this most sensual of fruits, when the lips touch the velvety fuzz of the skin and the teeth break through the thin membrane that envelops the thick luscious pulp, leading to a mouth feel of rich sweetness and meaty goodness.

Unfortunately, misery awaited as Inle entered its heart phase.
Once again, a single note messes up a beautiful composition.
Mint is the culprit here.
Some may appreciate its unusual vibrancy, but to me, it adds a stale sweaty vibe that is most unwelcome, akin to a beautiful girl clothed in finery who – oops - omitted to take a shower for the past couple of days or so.

Thankfully this awkward phase soon vanishes, returning to a more pared down version of its grand debut upon drydown, where it remains an Osmanthus soliflore for the rest of its lifespan.
Nice if uncomplicated is your thing.

Osmanthus tea
While the whole concept of Inlé - including the artwork and backstory - is full of East-Asian stereotypes, the scent itself is more successful. Inlé is a fine presentation of osmanthus, mint and tea.

Memo's tea of choice is not your typical green tea leaf. What we got here is grainier and more herbaceous. As such, both that Lipton-tea cliché and the more genuine tea-ceremony vibe of oolong are successfully avoided. The osmanthus is carefully dosed to stay in balance with the tea, while there is a pleasant background of mint and faint florals. A neat composition that feels both refreshing and luxurious.

Eventually, things fade into a white musk type of drydown, which is okay but nothing extraordinary. Overall, I would say that this wears best in spring. Maybe even in summertime. Not sure if it fully justifies its price tag, but it is surely worth a try if you are looking for a refreshing floral-tea scent.

Contemplative fruity florals mixed with aromatic herbs
Inlé is a gentle and soft fragrance with an unusual accord of flowers and aromatics. As soon as I laid a drop of it on my skin, I was swept away by the picture of a gentle breeze playfully bending flowers and herbs near a calm and tranquil lake. It's a perfume fit for contemplation, for taking the time for yourself and for slowing down. It'll never be a giant or a beast, quite content to be what it is. It doesn't have enormous sillage (does it even have any?) nor any projection, but it's a perfume I might just add to my collection for its unique thoughtfulness and composition.

A hint of herbs and freshness at the top, immediately swept away by the florals in the middle. Jasmine sambac is on the fruitier side: sweet with a hint of creaminess. Osmanthus is creamy, slightly powdery, but with that hint of carnal fruitiness. Maté gives it the tea vibe: a bit green, herbal and absolutely aromatic. The drydown is sweet, green and warm, like a hug. There's something in the middle notes, where the fruitiness is expressed that has me in a chokehold. Whenever I catch a whiff of it, I can't help but take in a deep breath and ground myself. It's a very soothing perfume for quieter moments. It's definitely something to try, but I do have to warn you the performance is not the best.

Modern jasmine, weak perfomer
Very modern, younger jasmine based scent.

The mint and bergamot are very present ensuring that this is not an overly sweet white floral. However, this one is very weak in terms of projection and longevity. You're getting virtually no projection and after a 30 mins to 1 hour it's a skin scent and won't be around too long after that on the skin. There are not enough base notes, or this needs a blend of various musks in the base to help make it last longer.

It's a nice jasmine based scent that doesn't feel mature, or drift into moth ball territory like many jasmine scents do, but the performance is extremely weak.

Gentle shampoo floral
Don’t judge me, but I like to watch Japanese and Korean girls on YouTube complete the inane yet intricate rituals of their daily life, from cooking picturesque omelets in strange little square frying pans to folding up their prim broderie anglaise sleepsuits (exchanging them for equally frilly daywear) and embarking on the types of project that involve delicacy and precision, such as calligraphy or stenciling.

I find this sort of TV compelling partly because it shows me a way of living, or culture, that is so different from my own and partly because because, regardless of the age of the woman involved (some are in their early twenties, others in their forties or even fifties), they all seem to be willingly ensconced in a bubble of what one feels that some men feel that Japanese or Korean women should be – ‘cute’ (kawai), feminine in an almost cartoonish manner, ensconced in a bubble of precocious 16-year-old virginity – preserved like butterflies pinned to a wall or wildflowers pressed between the pages of a book.

Memo Inle is like these cute YouTube girls in scent form. It contains the same starchy green tea signature that repeats on itself like a meal throughout the Memo catalogue, but where Eau de Memo, for example, frames this against a stiff, citric galbanum to form a green leather shape as sharp as a librarian’s ‘shhhh’, Inle simply uses it to give the fresh, apricotty florals something to lean against. The floral note is osmanthus as long as you are willing to squint your eyes and pretend that you’re smelling the petals fresh from the bush itself rather than the absolute – these, in this form, carry a fresh, cherry blossom-adjacent scent naturally high in tannins (which is why tea notes are often paired with osmanthus). Zero fat on its bones and therefore zero sexuality.

Floral-fresh fragrance with a spicy-powdery top. In the base, it's mostly jasmine & tea/mate with light touches from violet.

Airy white florals, tea and bergamot opening. Much nicer in drydown when the florals recede and smell less like bathroom air freshener

A short pleasure - wonderful tea and floral scent, great for high temperatures but unfortunately gone after an hour-ish.

An airy jasmine and osmanthus tea weighed down by sweet musk. Veers towards fruity big white florals, then back again. End result is a mess.

There is no bitterness to the mate, drowned in the syrupy sweetness from abundant jasmine and osmanthus. Very aromatic, floral and feminine.
