A Tribute to the Art of Perfume from the 70s
I first smelled this fragrance in 1978. It belonged to my mother, and I remember sneaking a little bit of it before going out in the evenings. Of course, this met with strong resistance, as it was one of her favorite scents.
Chicane is, for me, the epitome of a metallic fragrance. When I first sprayed it, I thought only one thing: Wow, it’s explosive, but fragrant! It’s hard to describe. Metallic fresh yet heavy, cool yet not boring, bitter but not harsh. And yet, it clangs for the first 3 seconds, then it becomes softer and warmer, mercilessly capturing the wearer. The tonka bean does a great job in this perfume. A real bang, as we say around here, but a pleasant one. This was the art of perfume from the 70s. It became one of my favorite scents until one day it disappeared without a trace. Was it too unusual, too expensive, too heavy to survive the times? I don’t know. What’s certain is that I would give a kingdom for this scent. Unfortunately, it is no longer produced, but somehow you can still catch it in the USA with a lot of luck. However, it now costs between $150 - $300. A rarity, a collector's item, a treasure. One thing is for sure: anyone who wears this scent will definitely stand out. And in a positive way!
