Hello dear fragrance lovers,

I'm new to this website, but I'm very familiar with Fragrantica and I was intrigued by Parfumo's collection management and the differences in note referencing. So, I'm making a slow transition from one website to this one.

A bit more about me!

I'm a young woman from the south of France, and I'm about to finish my master's degree. Perfume has always been present in my family, but I didn't know how vast the fragrance world was. I got really into fragrances about 2 to 3 years ago! And I believe I can qualify it as a hobby for 1 year. I like researching and reading articles about fragrances and now I try to write my own reviews...

I really enjoy sampling and doing "sniff games" with my boyfriend who is not that much into fragrances but takes the time to hear me ramble about this and that sample. So for me, fragrances bring joy and I would love to share more about it with people who like it equally or more!

Thanks for reading!

PS: My profile picture is my sweet Yuzu, named after one of my favorite citrus fruits in perfumery. <3

Welcome Ebicuunee and Yuzu!  🙂

Hello! I'm new to Parfumo and perfumes in general. I go by May online and I'm a housewife in Canada who enjoys playing games, collecting dolls, & organizing. Growing up I wasn't allowed to wear very many scented products as they triggered my mother's migraines. But, as a Christmas present in my teens, she bought me the entire Harajuku Lovers line of solid perfumes on the condition I only applied & wore them at school. I treasured them very much. I worked in healthcare throughout my early 20's and couldn't wear scents while on the job, so only now am I starting to fully explore the world of fragrance in my 30's after receiving a bottle of Black Opium Eau de Parfum from my SIL. I've already collected a handful of scents & samples, and I am especially enjoying my bottle of "Midnight Fantasy | Britney Spears".

It is wonderful to meet all of you!

Welcome all newcomers, great to have you all here 👋

Have fun exploring the community and discovering new scents. If you have any questions, feel free to start a thread in the forum

Welcome, May!  Enjoy your wonderful journey into perfume.  Be careful, though, as it is very easy to fall down the rabbit hole and end up with a humongous collection like so many of us.  😄

Hey there! I’m just dipping my toe into this fragrance world. Having fun smelling parfums in the shops and of course buying too much online 😊

Very much intrigued by all the smells that compose a parfum. Is there any way to train the nose being able to smell those individual notes?

1

Hi @Ceesie, i'm relatively new too! Just started this year. 👋🏻

I found it helpful to smell a variety of essential oils, which gave me a better idea of common notes in a more isolated form. I also went around sniffing all sorts of fragrances - candles, diffusers, perfumes - and tried to identify the similarities and differences across various scents. You get better at it after a while, and it's a pretty fun process!

2

@Ceesie welcome. There are perfumer kits available online that contain a set of different concentrates of typical notes found in perfumes. The grocery has small bottles of various spices that are often used in perfumes (black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, etc., etc.) that aren't too expensive and can be used to train your nose. If you live in a city, get out to the country and smell nature. A conifer forest after a rain, a birch forest, the shore of a large fresh water lake, the shore of the ocean, etc. Go to a botanical garden and sniff different flowers. A lumber yard to experience how pine vs. oak vs. birch smell differently. Even visit a farm and smell a pig sty or cow stall. When you read a review of an oud perfume and the reviewer says it "smells like a barnyard," and you try the perfume, you'll determine if that reviewer even knows what a barnyard smells like!  😄

Santino here, from Buenos Aires, Argentina; a fraghead since Father bought me Signorricci 1 in 1978 - I am sixty. I already fell in the rabbit hole.

First a Basenotes exile and now an ex participant in the English edition of Fragrantica.

I am a University professor specialized in Business Administration.

I am looking forward to a healthy, no nonsense, no snobish, well written exchange of opinions, read and write reviews.

Hi @Matux 👋

I'm Vega,
I registered on the site at the end of the 21st, but I was not active.

55 years old. Former worker at the Suchel cosmetics-perfumery company., today, Suchel Camacho S.A. Manufacturer) personal hygiene items, cosmetics and perfumery.
My hobbies are traveling, reading about history, perfumery, and music.
As lovers of Colognes and a good eye for quality, I decided to collect them and learn more about fragrances.

Glad to be on the web!

Hi @Suchel ! Nice to meet you. Where do you read about perfumery? I’m quite new to all this but I find it fascinating!

1

Welcome everybody and good evening to all Smile

@Ceesie, today I smelled some flowers in my sister's garden: Butterfly bush ( Buddleja davidii in Latin: lovely, a bit honey-like, but I've never seen it listed as a note Smile) Jasmine, Lilly of the Valley, Honeysuckle and so on, it is indeed interesting to smell things in nature, very 'mindful' so to train your nose.

The funny thing is that I know I LOVE carnation in most of my perfumes, but when I smell a carnation as a flower, I hardly smell anything, does anyone know how come?

Hi Ceesie, Nice to meet you too!.
Well, when I take advantage of my free time, both at home and when I travel., generally I download them from the Internet.
Start reading about its history, evolution, creation and over time you will become more familiar with fragrances.
Some masterpieces,
The Secret of Scent Adventures in Perfume and the Science of Smell.
Perfumes past and present.
The Chemistry of Fragrances From Perfumer to Consumer and its Volumen 2.

a fascinating world.

Enjoy it

Welcome everyone! Many have joined recently and it shows in the number of reviews and in the forum activity. Great to have you all here 👍

Hi there!

I work in specialty food/beverage and grow all sorts of plants as well as garden for fun (hence the username). Due to my career, I don’t wear fragrances while “on the job” to avoid palate interference. When I do get to enjoy wearing one, it’s usually at home with my partner.

I love reading and learning more about fragrances but especially love when people have different experiences. Discussing how one perceives a fragrance is so fun and interesting to me. I look forward to learning more and contributing what I can.

Cheers!

Hello!

I'm Carina, 42 years and from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

I've always been a perfume lover, but for the past two years I've been actively collecting and sharing my passion. I've been reading for a while now, and I feel that now is the time to participate in the forum and review section.

I'm still learning and enjoy reading about perfume history and perfume psychology. General perfume talk also makes my day.

I work in secondary vocational education as a tutor and internship coordinator. I love to share my thoughts and discuss my love for perfume with my students. Some of them "need" help getting out of the BR540 vibe... 😶‍🌫️ (Sorry 😅)

Have a nice day! ☀️

Hey @CarinaNL

Represent Holland! 😁

I wonder how you bring up a discussion about perfume in your work? Especially as a man this is quite a weird topic 😊

Hi @Ceesie

We have a lot of female students and most of them like to have small talk about their beauty routines. Sometimes it starts with noticing a scent that will start the conversation☺️ We have small halls and it happens often that a student oversprayed... and perfume will haunt us like a ghost👻

It intrigues me to hear how they think not only in their course but in life general. It also helps me to keep my mind younger and empathise with them.

I don't find it strange for a man to talk about perfume. My male colleague regularly asks for a decant for his wife. I find this so sweet and attentive 💝

Hello!

I'm new to Parfumo but not new to perfumes. I've been a member of a different perfume website since 2014, however no longer like the vibe over there. So I'm joining here in hopes of finding a community that embraces people of all kinds and doesn't turn perfume into politics.

I'm 34 years old and from the Netherlands (as well😅 ).

Welcome Hollanders ✌

Great to have you all here!

Hi! Just moved over from that one other site, saw this was a great site so here I am!
My name is Charlotte I'm 21and I'm studying animation at Uni! I am from the UK 💓I am also Autistic and am developing a huge huge interest in perfume.

I'm looking to slowly build up a collection and make friends who love treating their olfactory senses 🥰
I love making lists and organizing as well as finding as many cheapies as I can! I want to experiment with layering and making myself smell good.
I enjoy a wide range of scents! I'm amazed at how so many scents can be curated...
I don't have a lot of perfumes but when I build up a collection I'd love to be able to do splits and swaps, I've always admired that the community is able to share and make scents accessible to each other.

Even though I’m not exactly a newcomer, having been a member since 10/03/2020, this is my first time introducing myself and participating in the forum.

My name is Patrick, I’m 48 years old, and I’m Portuguese. Although I was born in Belgium, I’ve been living in Portugal since I was 18.

I’ve been interested in perfumes from a young age, but I never really explored that passion deeply. It wasn’t until the end of 2017, after my son was born, that I started getting more seriously involved in the world of fragrances.

I’ve since discovered a community of fragrance enthusiasts in Portugal, where most of my discussions about perfumes take place. However, I really enjoy Parfumo and mainly use it as a guide to help me discover new scents.

I regularly post statements about perfumes, and from time to time, I write reviews. These are mostly notes to remind myself, but I hope they might also be of interest to others in the community.

Wishing you all fragrant days ahead. If you’d like to share this passion, feel free to reach out!

Hi @BertolucciK !

How interesting that you have this community in Portugal. Is that in real life? How’d you find those people?
