What size of bottle do you prefer?

What size of bottle do you prefer? 0

The thread on 'finishing a perfume' made me think of how I'm always on the fence about what size of bottle I will buy. I also like to finish a bottle, which ofcourse is easier when it concerns a 30 or 50 ml. But price-wise a 100 ml is often more lucrative. (and I've noticed that some perfumes only come in 100 ml lately...).

What size do you prefer when buying a perfume?

As my collection grows I find that I prefer 30 or 50ml bottles. Yes, by ounce  100ml bottles are less expensive. However,  the 100ml bottles just sit longer. That said, a larger bottle size won't stop me from purchasing a fragrance.

Unless it's a light freshie I love to bathe in during summer, I would go for the smallest bottle possible.

And I don't consider larger bottles to be less expensive. If 100 ml cost 200 Euro and 50 ml cost 150, I still saved 50 Euro. I will struggle anyway to empty that smaller bottle and it will take years and years.

Came back to say that it would make sense to get the biggest bottle if I would sell decants. Which I don't.

I tend to prefer 30 or 50 ml especially for a first purchase. But I buy bigger bottles of my all times favorite perfumes.

Yes, I feel the same! I only own 15 perfumes, of which only 3 are 100ml bottles. And despite wearing perfume everyday (and reapplying on most days) I still feel like I barely make a dent in my collection. On top of that, my tastes do change over time and I have gotten bored with certain scents before. Buying a 100ml bottle seems like such a waste when I already know that I'll most likely get bored with it. On top of that I like having several options to choose from and with the way I use my perfumes it will probably take me over ten years to finish a big bottle.

So I prefer smaller bottles and miniatures

I get the smaller of the two "full-size" bottles most brands give you a choice between. Whether that's 50ml vs 100ml, 60ml vs 120ml, etc. I usually stay away from 30ml or smaller bottles as they sometimes have different designs or the bottle is made more cheaply. I like the look of full size bottles on my shelf; if I didn't I'd probably just get 5/10ml decants honestly.

Size doesn't matter. Isn't that what we all, perfume lovers like to believe? It's the strength of the juice that's important.

Always looking for a 30mL or 50mL. Definitely don't need anything larger due to the size of my collection. I do like, however, having the real presentation. Don't really like to display the decants bc they're normally not the normal shaped bottle.

I definitely prefer the biggest bottle sizes, mostly 100ml but also 150ml and even 200ml.

Thanks to all for your thoughts on the subject. I often order online because I usually don't like most of the perfumes sold in perfumeries (I hardly see Guerlains in a perfumery for instance) and online it is often hard to get a smaller size. I like the size of recent Guerlains (Les legendaires): 75 ml.

Great topic and it got me thinking. I have never ever ever finished a 100ml bottle in my life. Right now I’m saving up for a bottle of my first niche perfume and the way it looks now it’s going to be a 75ml instead of the 125ml bottle of Parfums de Marly. I’ll have saved up faster and I’ll probably not even finish that “small” bottle either.

My preference is for a 40-50 ml bottle. While a 60 ml bottle is larger, if it's best perfume, I'll buy it.

I prefer 60 or 100 ml. I usually only buy full sized bottles of scents I love so I like having a bigger amount of juice. Also, some scents I buy from overseas so it's best I get the biggest size shipping wise.

At my age 30ml represents a lifetime supply.

Cheers!

I usually go for the smallest bottle available so when I finish it, I have an excuse to buy more perfumes more often lol.

I generally go for the 50 ml but if there's a smaller one I'll go for that instead. The exception is if it's one of my absolutely favorites like Infusion d'Iris (2007) Eau de Parfum or Bois des Îles Eau de Toilette that I've worn many bottles of then I'll go for a the biggest bottle I can find.

I say the 50ml is the sweet-spot. usually 50ml could last for years, especially when you have a big collection and have a fragrance rotation. I never go for 100ml and rather have 30ml, because i feel like its unnecessary and I'm not in need for all that juice.

I go for the smallest size possible, and try very hard to not make the calculation about price by milliliter so I'm not tempted to buy the bigger size !

Really tough exercise, but I'm often moving out and packing my bottle perfume is a real hassle ...

Thanks for all your thoughts on this subject Smile! I also think that strength of the perfume matters when it comes to deciding which size one should get. Some perfumes should be used so light handed, that a 30 ml bottle will last a lifetime. Unfortunately this is not the case with my beloved Givenchy III (2007) (and100 ml is the only available size as far as I can see). So I would buy a 100 ml of that. Just ordered Liu Eau de Parfum it only comes in 75 ml, but I'm fine with that. I don't have many perfumes on my 'love-shelve' (and hope Liu will be one of them) so I don't rotate perfumes as often as many.

I used to feel that I HAD to have a 100ml bottle of every fragrance I liked/love. However, it became increasingly clear that if I had over 100 different bottles that were 3.4 oz,  I'd have a hard time finishing those bottle. Especially because I never wear the same fragrance two days in a row.

Now I LOVE my 30 and 50mls! I really feel like I can finish the bottle and I got my money's worth. I also have less anxiety going about it this way now.

1

I like a 30 ml! Even a 15 ml is great for something I like but don't love. Also as a collector (as I imagine everyone here is), travel sizes are great. Unless you're wearing it every day, 10 or 15 mls will last a long time.

As someone who always prefers the value proposition I will say that as my collection grows I'm becoming more open to the idea of smaller bottles. Generally 50ml. I will say that, for me the standard across brand ideally would be 75ml for the small bottle and 125ml for the larger and over 200ml for the very large bottles. I will also say that the marketing geniuses probably know that for the consumer 75 is ideal and that's why they do 50. It's just so small that people almost inevitably buy the 100ml.

I have a large collection, so I tend to prefer smaller sizes (especially for oils, which tend to be more concentrated anyway) , but I also love label and bottle art, so I’m happiest when I can find mini bottles (6-10 ml) that reflect the art as well as contain the scent.

Ditto. Especially for the darker, heavier cold weather scents I prefer smaller sizes. Unless it's something I know I can't live without, I'd rather have a 10-15ml format.I mean, has anyone ever finished a larger bottle of Red Tobacco? I'd like to know.😃
